I just heard on WYFF - Greenville News that last night may have been the beloved coaches last home game.

Dabloo or Bleamer? Or both?

I'm pretty sure this will be the last season for both. And, ironically, I believe the Clemson powers that be CANNOT afford (from a public standpoint, not money) to outright fire Dabo. I don't think that will fly. Like it, love it, or hate it, Dabo is a Clemson man now until he takes his last breath. Clemson will have to make him some sort of : really important sounding title with virtually no power. Like retiring him out to pasture (no pun) but with all the pomp and circumstance of hiring a new pope..... That way, he gets to be a positive ambassador to Clemson, the public will be satisfied, and Clemson will continue on, virtually untarnished. That is what would be good for Clemson football....thus it will be done. Both parties will agree to it.

As far as Shane, unfortunately, I think it's largely the same exact scenario, even though he doesn't deserve it at all. We'll have to keep him in some form or another. What that would be, I don't know.... but I do know that almost everyone believes him when he says he loves SC. He's a SC man. Like it, love it, hate it, whatever.... I know many will scoff at this notion of retaining him in some fashion, but if we just fire him and throw him out on the streets, it's gonna look really, really bad for USC and make our situation that much worse. JMHO.

I will agree with you on if he gets terminated that will likely not coach again, but hothead Voldemort loves the attention of getting in front of the camera and talking. I believe he will get a job with the ACC Network so he can tell the story of his glory days.

I honestly thought you were talking about Shane until the Network name. :)

I do not think it would be fair for an interim coach to take the heat for the rest of the season. If a change is made do it at the end of the season.

What about giving Briles a shot tonprive himself? That was the conspiracy theory over the summer. Might it come true?

I think its a coin flip as to whether Beamer gets fired _during_ the season, but if he goes 4-8, or even 2-10 this year, the AD is going to have to come right out and explain to fans that the reason he wasn't fired is because we cant afford the buyout. Nobody in the SEC, and probably not even in P4 is going to keep a guy with that record in his 5th and 6th seasons. If that's the case then Donati should have fired Paris last year.

As for Dabo, I feel like firing him would be a huge overreaction. He's still just a season and a half removed from winning 10 games, being ACC champs, and going to the CFP.

Hold up my man.....

I've been a fan for 50 yrs ..... USC could hire YOU tomorrow to take Shane's place and you could lose every game the rest of the season by 100 points each game, and I would give you a free pass and a pat on the back at the end and say thank you.

I don't think there's a serious fan among us gamecock fans that would give any interim coach any heat given the circumstances. I do however think it would be unfair for an interim coach to be expected to turn things around in a few games....but I think that unfairness would only be happening inside the interims own mind. ---Now, if we hired Saban as an interim coach, yeah, that would be different. We'd expect results next week or definitely after the bye week.

I like Coach Briles and I believe if there is a coaching change he will still be here next season. I do not think he can cure the recurring issue with the defensive passing coverage so why should he hurt is creditability as a interim coach. Coach Beamer has a eight million dollar salary this season and part of the reason you receive that money is being on the hot seat. I think he needs to be the owner of this.

Don't disagree. But also think it would be very odd to go hire a new head coach but have the OC stay on from the fired coach.

I'd have no problem with that. None. - But, with the NIL nowadays and recruiting for the future to "build" a team.....that crap is over. You're basically building a new team every offseason, so I wouldn't mind giving XYZ coach a 1 year contract. Interim this year + 1 yr next year to give him an offseason, spring training, etc... Come to think of it, no coach nowadays should ever have more than a 2 yr contract. That might just be what these universities have to do in order to survive because these 5 yr, multimillion dollar contracts with huge buyouts is not sustainable and is largely based on the old model of college football.

Not saying it would be a majority, but some people would expect immediate change if you fired a coach during the season. Why else would you remove a coach in the middle of the season?

Maybe players need 2-3 year contracts.....

Because of human nature. - With coach A) who everyone wants gone - there is no hope. With coach B) - you restore hope.

You gotta stop the bleeding somehow.

I don't think many would blame Briles if he failed to turn it around. On the other hand, if he somehow salvaged a decent season, he would almost certainly become the front-runner for the permanent position.

They had them and THEY fought to get it changed to year to year so they could portal out whenever they wanted

Actually, scholarships were year-to-year from 1973 through 2011 and then the press went on a crusade about how unfair that was to the players, especially if the coach that recruited them was let go and the new coach could just let them go without a way to secure a scholly at another school. They said if the student was committing to the school for 4 years, it should go both ways (nevermind if a player decided to stop giving effort, you still have to pay his way even if he essentially quits on you). In 2012 they began allowing multi-year scholarships. It became a point of emphasis for a while in recruiting - "all our schools in the XYZ Conference offer ONLY 4-year scholarships."

Then all of a sudden, they want an open marriage - can't keep me tied down if I don't want to be.

Who knows what's next... I sure don't.
