It was reported the scouts that were there almost specifically to see Becht left at the half. The podcaster who rode the elevator with them said (paraphrasing) they had seen enough and it was bad. You're all going to have to learn to embrace Becht because he's going to likely be the QB the rest of the year
Whether you like it or not if MC didn't consider benching him against NW he probably won't do it this year.
It was bad...I'm questioning whether or not any scout was sent just to watch Rocco though. That seems like a massive waste of time/money for someone who was never a day 1 or 2 pick. Hopefully they were with the Bears and made the quick trip if true lolIt was reported the scouts that were there almost specifically to see Becht left at the half. I can't imagine why anyone was there to see Becht - I assume those guys do go overboard though on doing their due diligence. It was reported the scouts that were there almost specifically to see Becht left at the half. LOLIt's not a mystery. These guys just aren't very good.

These boards have basically hated every QB we've had since Collins with the possible exception of Trace (which was smoke and mirrors because of Saquon, Gesicki and Godwin). People here still act as though Beau would have been better than Allar despite him being run off Mizzou and will likely be pushed out at UVa after this year. People bashed Clifford for years. Hack was hated despite staying. McMoxie was loved then hated. Morelli was hated for not living up to the hype. Clark and MRob were probably the only others since 2000 that were liked at all.
Collins is the only Penn State QB that has had real success in the NFL since Blackledge. He hasn't been here in over 30 years.
It's just common for posters to attack the QB--it's easy. Becht has been awful for 2 games but we've had worse.
I liked him--but I feel like everyone turned on him in 2003 & 2004--at least 2004Fans liked him:

The overall talent (not just QB) just doesn't seem to be there. We'll see where they end up at the end of the season but 5-6 losses with no IU, OSU or Oregon on the schedule and a pathetic non-conf schedule would be a considered a failureThat oblique is clearly not well. He's playing hurt. I'm not making excuses, his play has been awful, but he can't drive the football. It's obvious.
It's time for Manske. People ask what Joe would do: Every time Joe had a team that was failing with upper classmen, he played the kids at mid season.
1970: Hufnagel for Cooper
1976: Fusina for Andress
1980: Blackledge for Hofstettler
1984: Shaffer for Strang
1988: Sacca for Lonergan
1993: Collins for J. Sacca
2001: Mills for Seneca
2010: McGloin for Bolton

Yes you are making excuses. Did he re-injure his oblique this fall because he sure as hell would have long recovered from the one he supposedly had last year at ISU.That oblique is clearly not well. He's playing hurt. I'm not making excuses, his play has been awful, but he can't drive the football. It's obvious.

My recollection is that Hostetter and Blackledge alternated for a game or two but could be wrong.A couple points:
— I don’t ever recall Jeff Hostetler starting. (Glad to be proven wrong)
— Tony Sacca got the job due to Tom Bill being injured and stupid.
— Mcgloin I believe was ahead of Bolton age and class standing.
But I agree that if we aren’t yet at Manske-time, we are close.
Your point is a flat out excuse for poor performance. It was replacement of a starter however: Jeff started vs The Aggies and then against Nebraska in 1980. He was replaced by Todd at Mizzou. Look it up.
And stop nit picking. My point is clearly made and correct.
Because I don’t give a bleep what he did before he got here. Becht has been flat out bad the last 2 games and looked overwhelmed at times.I love how our fan base pretends that nothing happened prior to them coming to Penn State matters
He's been horrible for 2 games...should have been benched last night. He's obviously not right mentally right now and I agree it's unlikely an injury.
But he's a good QB...just isn't playing like it right now.
LOL
Denial is a POWERFUL drug.
He just isn't good.
I spoke (probably kinda' often) about how the incredibly pimped-up Becht (pimped up the the fans, and the "sports journalists" who profit from the pimping up) was never more than "mid"
If I was in any way incorrect, it was that I was - at least slightly - overrating him.
It is what it is - not the kids' fault.
The fact that he was brought in to displace a kid who is - already - a significantly better QB with much more upside (and remaining eligibility) was a real knucklehead move. I can UNDERSTAND what motivated the decision, I really can. But that doesn't negate the fact that it has had a negative impact.
You are on a roll and spot on.LOL
Or maybe - in addition to Becht - all of the DTs on the roster are playing hurt....
And the entire offensive line....
And all the LBers sans Rojas....
And all the Safeties....
And all the WRs
And the Punter - hell, maybe even lay that on the Kicker, who has missed, IIR twice as many FGs as all of last year.
But the CBs have been healthy! LOL
Or maybe, just maybe, you're right.
All these backups and 2nd/3rd tier transfers from lower-level programs are not all "diamonds in the rough" being coached up to Excellence at the Highest Level
And this is great...you're acknowledging exactly what I'm claiming is the problem. Thank you.Because I don’t give a bleep what he did before he got here. Becht has been flat out bad the last 2 games and looked overwhelmed at times.
For someone that's injured, some his passes seem to zip about 75 mph right behind receivers.Because I don’t give a bleep what he did before he got here. Becht has been flat out bad the last 2 games and looked overwhelmed at times.
I think Campbell is injured, and I know Pat Kraft is as wellThe overall talent (not just QB) just doesn't seem to be there. We'll see where they end up at the end of the season but 5-6 losses with no IU, OSU or Oregon on the schedule and a pathetic non-conf schedule would be a considered a failure
But we don't have that. Our best chance is to spread the defense and use the pass to set up the run.A complimentary running game would be just what the doctor ordered.
get use to my friend, more to come next yearThe overall talent (not just QB) just doesn't seem to be there. We'll see where they end up at the end of the season but 5-6 losses with no IU, OSU or Oregon on the schedule and a pathetic non-conf schedule would be a considered a failure
More than at times - just overall bad, overwhelmed, not performing -- welcome to the Big 10And this is great...you're acknowledging exactly what I'm claiming is the problem. Thank you.
The "Welcome to the Big 10" part is the problem. You all act like lower level QB never have success moving up a level.More than at times - just overall bad, overwhelmed, not performing -- welcome to the Big 10
How many of those guys are under 6'?The "Welcome to the Big 10" part is the problem. You all act like lower level QB never have success moving up a level.
You're probably real confused how guys like Josh Allen, Joe Flacco, Big Ben, etc
How many Big Ten QBs do you think are currently starting in the NFL?
Allegedly he's 6'1" but he doesn't have to be on their levelHow many of those guys are under 6'?
He never healed after being injured at Wisconsin in ,2002, just like BechtI liked him--but I feel like everyone turned on him in 2003 & 2004--at least 2004
Losing seems to do that
