They hired a 6mm OC and we have Captn Kirk. Coaching matters but money buys coaches.

Couldn’t we do that with Brian Kelly? How much does LSU owe him?
Yes and I've said that here. He makes sense as a coach to take a chance on (again no one is a guarantee) in multiple ways. Potential cost savings would be one.

He just needs to be paid a market rate salary. You can't pay him like a dollar or few hundred thousand and get away with it. But I do think you could pay him 3-5M and it would be fine. It doesn't mean we would or any school that hires him would be prudent and pay that much (how often do we see schools throw away money that they don't have to...see GS' extension)but you could if you decided to be more fiscally prudent. I've given examples of fairly recent P4 HC hires (even some P2 hires) where the initial contracts were in that 3-5M range. So imo that's an acceptable market rate. It doesn't have to be 6M+ but just because it doesn't have to be that high doesn't mean a school won't pay that high, that seems to be the thing ADs do lol. Regardless of whether someone pays him 3, 4, 5, 6 million, LSU is still on the hook for the rest up to his 9-10M salary for the next 4-5 years.

Would it even make sense to fight it if you're LSU. We don't want to save 15-20M in his compensation, we'd rather save 25-30M and then a school moves on lol. Even a lower end market rate salary is substantial cost savings for LSU.

As we all know, similar isn’t same. The Athletic says Rutgers budget is $20M-$23M while Northwesterns budget is $21M - $25M. Our budget is likely closer to $20M while Northwesterns is likely closer to $25M. Much of the difference is likely in the amounts spent on the Quarterback. Northwestern got a good QB with big Ten experience. Our QB still needs to develop. You can also see a significant difference in the quality of the transfer classes.

I wouldn't say Chiles is proven good qb. IMO he's a qb with good potential but such a grab bag or Forest Gump's box of chocolates lol. Any play could turn out to be anything, even when he's making plays and you watch it happening in real time and it's like that play can go a bunch of different ways from fumble, int, poorly thrown ball or big positive play.

There's a lack of consistent crispness from him but he has shown flashes of it. Maybe Kelly is working on him this year so Chiles is veering more towards the positive end of the spectrum with performance and flow vs the negative.

I already see some on this board are beginning to fall for the GS mantra. “We almost beat ranked USC, things are improving.” The fact is we haven’t beaten a ranked opponent in, is it 44 tries? That statistic alone is mind boggling for a Big Ten team and a spot on reflection of coaching. I don’t know how many of those are attributable to GS but we’ve played many ranked opponents over the last six seasons, plus USC this year.

You have no idea what NE or RU are closer to. You are just spitting our data to support your narrative. RU chose to divide up its money in the way that it did

I also like the fact that everyone is acting like NW beat IU last night. Guess moral victories do count.

Crazy. Everyone else is under reporting. And we’re over reporting. But he has 20+ years estimating experience. So he has that going for him.

These threads are so obvious trying to create an environment in advance that is against the current coaching staff. We should be in a tight game against Indiana, we should beat Northwestern, who will be the interim coach, etc. etc..

How about supporting the team and letting it just play out. The last 10 qrtrs have shown improvement and decent football. If after the Indiana game losses start piling up then there’s plenty of time to speculate. Of course there’s no reason why behind the scenes that can’t be worked on now as a contingency. But the continued obvious creations of thread to jaundice the fan based in advance of games really seems anti-Rutgers

Talk about moving goal posts to fit your narrative!!! You just made up a $5 million difference out of thin air. Also, know what $5 mil buys? TWO UMass football teams!!!
