Thank you for the free run, Nimmo. We miss you for your running hard down the first base line after a base on balls (BB!!!), but we have better outfielders now!
Here's a question for the experts, and it is a fairly easy answer (once you know it). Who held the record previously?
He wastes all the challenges in the first couple innings and is usually wrong. There’s talent there, but he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. He’d be better off going to a team who can fix him.

And besides having the better younger OF, we also have a crappy 2B that we owe pretty much $30m a year to. Sorry- had to add that in hehe
I'm over Nimmo. Still suffering from Alonso withdrawal.
I would be ok- with no Nimmo except they brought in a much more expensive player who sucks and justified getting rid of a starting OF with another OF that cost just as much- who sucked.
And yeah- as much as fans try and try to get past Alonso- it is getting harder every day when he is about to lead the AL in potentially HR and RBI and will be getting MVP votes...
Some backstory on the Nimmo trade that I recall reading. This is from memory, but I think I have it right.
As you know, Nimmo had a no-trade clause which he had to waive. Cohen (pretty sure it was him and not Stearns, but could be mistaken) told Nimmo that if he returned as a Met, it would be primarily as a DH. Nimmo had no intention of accepting this role if he had a choice, which he did. This was a factor in his departure.
Another factor was conversations with senior management and with deGrom. They convinced him that Texas was all-in on winning now, there was no intent to rebuild.
Nimmo accepted $1M from the Mets to waive the no-trade.
I never heard those details, but it makes sense...I really think Nimmo did love being here. I did hear about the conversation with deGrom and the Rangers on them being all in, which swayed Nimmo's decision...
I would have much rather they even just sent Nimmo off for prospects.
This is fascinating, at least to me. Rosenthal and Salmon are reporting that Falvey will have a "significant role" in team decisions. What does that mean? I guess we'll find out.
Falvey will likely be given some sort of Senior Advisor title. But advisor to whom? To Stearns, who could take or leave his input? Or maybe directly to Cohen, in which case his role might be less advisory and more oversight?
Soto is a great hitter

I envision Baty in the same role next year - playing five different positions and getting 400 AB's, mostly against righties.

He needs to channel his talent. It's now or never. He has a believer in Andy Green.
Baty actually has a beautiful swing. And when he connects- his HR's are usually crushed.
Hard to figure out what is missing for him. He may have put himself in a position where a number of teams may be very interested in him next year. But, I would rather keep him and move Vientos.

Agree- looks like Green may be a very good choice.
Looking forward to the following next year
Benge taking the next step and can easily be an all star next year. Ewing improving and his all out hustle. Lindor and Soto being healthy for the full year. Does Senga become a true lock down closer? McLean, Thorton, Scott
What sucks- that is a pretty crappy looking forward to list and looks like a .500 team at best.
What I am not looking forward to - Bichette not opting out. Semien anywhere near the field. Any other pitcher on the staff. Hoping Alvarez learns to play catcher. And anyone else currently on the roster. And how Stearns wants to move Lindor and all the rumors that will come out from anonymous sources about how he and his wife cause so many internal problems on this team.
But at least it looks like the Manager is solid.
With the win last night, the Mets avoid a final loss total in the 90s. If they can go 3-1 in the last four games, they would finish 10 games under .500 (a ten game improvement from the season's low point) and not finish dead last in the NL East.
I'd also like to see Benge get to 162 hits. That's a nice number when you average as many hits as games in the season.
I doubt there are too many people still watching the Mets these days. It's on for me in the background right now at work. Watching teams intentionally walk Soto, and not having Alonso behind him will forever piss me off. Just a reminder how much I despise Stearns for letting our best home grown slugger in history walk, while having someone like Soto who is an on-base machine who would be batting in front of him. Just complete malpractice. Not sure I'll ever get over it as a Mets fan
I guess his unofficial title will be Consigliere. Unlike Tom Hagen, I hope he is a wartime Consigliere.

Right now the Mets are 5th at 73-86, with no possibility of improving. That would get them a 62.8% chance of drafting in the top 6, in which case they avoid the 10 spot luxury tax penalty.
However, there are three teams only a game behind them, and two teams two games behind. They could drop all the way to 11th, in which case they would have only a 15.9% chance of drafting in the top 6.
Put another way: The Mets will either draft 1 though 6, or they will draft 17 or higher. No in between. Depends on what happens this weekend, and in the subsequent draft lottery.
While I always want my team to win, having a high draft pick would be nice. Assuming of course there is a draft under the current rules. With the CBA negotiations, who knows.
