He had more than enough support to beat UMass and BC.
Correct this was in the Athletic today.

Look at RU and BC, UMass had like $3m. Then, look at the B1G schools below RU and then consider how much more successful they've been. Finally, look at the cluster of B1G teams just above RU (there's no much difference in total dollars). In total that's like 1/2 the conference.

That's how full of :poop: AL is and why he keeps trying to steer the conversation towards US, OSU, etc. There is no defending losing to UMass & BC. Greg and only Greg put himself in this position with:

Poor HS recruiting that left gaps in the roster,
Bad player development that impacted the roster,
Delayed hirings this year, which impacted the portal,
Poor utilization of funds in the portal, and
Poor preparation & coaching by his staff.

And when nothing has worked, Al keeps shifting to RU can't afford to let Greg go...lol.

That screeching we keep hearing is Al's fingernails slip down the ledge as he tries to hold on for dear god hoping a miracle happens.

Is this seriously a rumor going around? Because it doesn't make sense how Rutgers gets all of these lower level transfers year after year. Even this year with over 20 million the starting linebackers transferred in from Drake and rice. While UMass spends 4 million and has power four transfers all over the field. They even had a set of twin defensive lineman from Indiana. What is that about?
We spent peanuts on our transfers, and allocated most of our dollars to the active roster. Thats the only thing that makes sense.

The thing is what he is ranting about was discussed and debunked in the fall and winter when he brought it up then in comparison to Indiana. RU outspent IU in the same period in capital expenditures by a wide margin. And RU spends competitively with our peers in that regard. There are maybe 4 outliers in the B1G that obviously outspend us in that category. It’s an allocation versus spending issue. And we blow everyone out of the water in opex. We are only outspent by the bluest of blue bloods. 2.5-3x median B1G. And going by the numbers he posted earlier debunk his claims regarding NIL as well. Middle 8 of the B1G have similar NIL numbers. Bad day bad day!!
This just isn’t true. What Indiana spent on, directly affects recruiting. Dollars spent on stadium expansion affects recruiting.

It really illustrates why he's been barred from tailgates and such. Shares a lot in common with that other long time poster who used to post here. I forget his name.
Don’t you feel pathetic making up lies and trolling my threads? I’m embarrassed for you.

I wouldn’t spend this amount of effort on you. And for the record, I belong to the arguably the best tailgate at Rutgers. We’ve been featured on the scoreboard. Unlike Caliknight, people love me, which is why he’s jealous.

@Caliknight wouldn’t be allowed within 500 yards of our tailgate because he’s an ahole . But thanks for the free rent in your head.

It’s absolutely true. We went over timelines and indianas spending. We compared the spending accordingly. Indianas spending on facilities had no effect until they hired a person that could coach. Indianas projects (not football specific) were 17 and 9 years ago. 2-3 coaches ago. Same timeline we put an addition on our stadium built new locker rooms, built a new football practice facility, built the APC built rodkin. These projects are included to compare apples to apples spending. Indianas projects were for all athletes, fan experience and general student population. Again Not football specific. Not denying it affects recruiting. But why did it take nearly 2 decades for the initial project to have an affect?

If we had no NIL, we wouldn’t have Duff or Raymond. We’re now middle of the pack in NIL, spending between 20-30 mil.

Are 50 players who couldn’t beat an awful MAC team worth retaining?
Yes, because at the end of the year they will be more developed. Right now a good number are lacking experience.

we’re 14 out of 18 in nil spending. That’s not middle of the pack.

With a few quality player acquisitions, we can turn this around in a hurry.
A few quality players will not over come poor coaching, bad game planning, horrible player prep, lack of awareness on the field and getting blown off on both offensive and defensive lines. You have to be smarter than this AL.

You're making a leap of faith that any significant snd developmental talent will stay at RU after a catastrophic season and not run away and grab a bag of cash and/or opportunity elsewhere and that includes the QBs.

Also, at what point do you rip the band aid off? One way or another, Schiano is eventually gone so you are just kicking the can down the road for the same issue you just outlined.

Not sure what you are afraid of, we are essentially looking at an Ash type season this year. Better to get started with ne faces and hope than to ever cling to the mediocre to bad results.
Are you willing to pay up so that the next coach is has a chance to be successful? Well Need to have $30M onhand for NIL to have a chance for success.

I disagree that we would be kicking the can down the round. Schiano has been the only coach who has had the right recruiting strategy for success, which we are all taking for granted. No other coach came close. Chris Ash never figured out how to recruit to Rutgers properly in four years. Are you willing to throw away Schiano’s institutional knowledge and know how? For someone who may never get it? Mediocre is better than bad all day. Our biggest issue is money, and that needs once addressed.

we shouldn’t be blowing up the whole thing for one bad season.

I think Al may be the only person in the world who wants Greg on the sidelines in 2027. It’s insane.
Not true. There's Mrs. Schiano, Greg's wife, his three sons on staff (one might have left?), and the rest of the nepotitstic hires who are rooting for him to remain. That probably makes up the 20% pro-Schiano to stay on the sidelines. Oh, and I forgot Delusional AL.

Football is what matters and our investments should have been football prioritized because it’s the only sport with the potential to be a cash cow and has the highest ROI potential by far. Football is the biggest reason we’re in h the Big Ten. We did not spend as much money as Indiana on items which directly affect football recruiting and that is part of the reason recruiting is struggling. Even Syracuse and USF have new football facilities.

We don’t have competitive football facilities and we don’t have competitive NIL, and these are the biggest reasons our recruiting has gone down the tubes.

The football Fieldhouse should have been prioritized over the APC. It definitely should have been prioritized over Rodkin, which is looking more and more like wasted money.

Rutgers financial situation is why there is a hiring freeze.
Then how the hell did Greg get a coaching staff of 120? Number one, way too many and since you like to compare to others, why do we have double the staff of many of our conference mates? And number two, with this amount of staff, the product put forth by the players is putrid. And that's irregardless of the overall game results. It's based on piss poor tackling, missed assignments, bad decision making and on field product that might not be able compete with the best high school teams. That's........COACHING!!!! Too bad there seems to be a firing freeze as well.

Because it takes more effort to recruit here since we don’t have competitive football facilities or NIL. Most of our recruits these days come from out of state. Fix the talent and you fix the execution issues.

Exactly what I said real time regarding those projects. Rodkin and APC could have been consolidated into one project. Also including a field house. A true athletic village. For a comparable price or less than what we paid on those projects. You’re just now realizing. Again like I’ve said Rutgers does not have a pending problem. We spend with the best of them. We have an allocation problem. Systemic allocation problem across the department. But none worse than Greg’s program. You are now admitting that Greg did a horrible job in the portal. An allocation problem.

we have enough Nil to compete with the middle of the B1G. We could use more. But I wouldn’t give Greg or his team of minions any more money. Considering how poorly he has assessed, developed, evaluated and allocated talent and resources.

Any decent, high school player who isnt smoking crack knows how to be in position, know how to rotate defensively as the play progresses and make most tackles. Any decent, high school smoking crack is capable of sticking his arm out and occasionally tackling someone with the ball and be in position most of the time. Are you saying a 20-30 million dollar roster is not capable enough to mimick what an average high school player on/off crack is capable of executing? They absolutely should be able to at that price point!!! Or, the explanation lands mostly on the shoulders of the numerous coaches on the team who have been struggling to coach their way out of a paper bag.

Recruiting takes more effort so we need THAT many more? So a staff of 120 cannot recruit and teach elementary school fundamentals of positioning, shifting/rotating assignments and tackling? Got it. Perhaps they can double to a 240 person staff to make things better. I've wasted enough time this morning combatting your stupidy where simply throwing more money at a failing effort is the solution. Have a great day.

To address you "pay-up" comments.....I've personally donated to RU Athletics. When I had a business, I also advertised with RU Athletics. I also have a son attending RU at >$32K all in per year.

Regarding NIL - you might not understand that it has become much more difficult for individuals to donate via collectives which are under a much higher degree of regulation wrt pay for play.

Regarding Kicking the Can Down the Road.......I think you may have misunderstood. Schiano will eventually be fired, leave or retire. So one way or another - at some point RU will be faced with replacing him. Therefore your point on his institutional knowledge with him leaving will come into play at some point - whether you like it or not.

Regarding Mediocre vs Bad - I think even you can agree that the team is bad right now and not mediocre. The point you seem to be missing is that it will be very difficult for any program that has sunk to "Bad" from "Mediocre" to generate donor money and funding that you say is needed with a Coach that has been in place for 7 years in a 2nd term - and having never rose above mediocre is now trending downward to "Bad". Further - it will not only impact potential donor & benefactor funding, but will also draw negative attention by the media as to RU's Athletic Funding as well as adversely impact fan engagement both at the Gates and via ratings. All of which will create both a revenue dip as well as hurdles to finding new sources of donor & NIL funding.

To sum up my thoughts - here's a quote from Tony Robbins......

The fear of failure is worse than actual failure because it stops you from trying and kills off all new possibilities

My take on Greg. Twice, he played a very important role in bringing Rutgers out of the dung heap.
and both times, I’m not sure someone could have.

but, in both cases, he hit the point of needing a change. The first time- timing was horrible and Rutgers screwed it up big time. This time, the ousted AD screwed up with the massive extension. It made no sense.
Now, we have a capable AD but she has to dance between- we owe him a lot and up to this year, he has not gotten the support. Let’s give him full support and see what he does in 2026.

I do not think there is anything that saves him now unless he finds a way to a + .500 conference record.

This makes sense.. probably why they had to let strong leave as well. Maybe keeping Raymond, duff, asamoah was 40% of the budget. 🤔 In this new age, you have to be able to manage a budget as well. Ignore the emotions of wanting to keep your stars and prioritize building a competent roster. Until the big bucks start rolling in and then you can retain potential 1st round draft picks. Good lesson for the next coach at Rutgers lol

That’s a great theory regarding allocation. But not even remotely close to reality. There is no way that RU spent 8-12mm(high and low end of reported range) on 3 players. Numbers discussed on this board and others. Have all 3 of those player below the 1mm range. And the numbers I’ve heard from a reliable source pegged Duff as the highest earner in the 750-1mm range.

This site reported higher figures. Wasn’t 40%, but could have easily been 20%, which is a lot for 3 players.
