Where are your facts this isnt a $20m roster?
Facts that UMass and BC outspent Rutgers?

You are assuming because you can't consider the concept that the issue is Schiano and not "money".
Interesting he’s now using the same premise that ruguy2 and I did with him when asking him to prove Indiana roster cost and RU. He believed the rumors of roster cost. Ru allocated less than reported annd everyone else paid more. Even though Cignetti is on the record of saying his roster cost closer to 15million than what was reported.

OK- that kind of proves the point. If UMass could afford this QB - I am sure he is getting less than our 2 starting QB's. And what about them having WR's our DB's could not stay withing 5 yards of- and both of their lines domination ours?
His ego is too big to allow him to realize that all this is poor performance on Greg’s part and why he’s getting fired.

As with last year, coaching has been the major problem with on field results.

More money wouldn’t matter because Greg clearly didn’t utilize what he had properly. Of course, effectively firing your DC midseason and not replacing him until Feb was a large part of the portal mismanagement.

Everyone else is coaching their team up except Rutgers. There is no excuse for what we’ve seen.

We are going to do our best to beat USC but it’s going to be tough because they have a $20M NIL advantage, and are supported by Millionaires and Billionaires. Are you going to help provide the NIL, to replace the players we are going to lose if there is a change? If we have to go to the bargain bin to replace 50 players, any change is going to be a disaster. Better to build upon what we already have.

Otherwise Need 1000 people to donate $20K for any change to be successful. This gives us a $20M war chest above revshare.
No. I think that our beloved college football is circling the drain.

So you agree we spent somewhere in the $23-25M range (SC somewhere between $40-45M)? Yet you keep telling us we could not possibly have spent more than UMass (eatimates $3-5M) in multiple threads the past 2 weeks.

That’s some serious “Chinese arithmetic” right there.

I believe This is a $20M team, so you're off base here.

Rutgers shouldn’t be losing to UMass and BC, but a Big Ten team needs a Big Ten NIL budget. You can’t compete in the Big Ten on the cheap. Hope you agree with that.

if Schiano can’t win with competitive resources, then we would have strong evidence to can him. It would be really dumb to fire him, then watch his successor fail for the same reasons.

Sorry. You are contesting $25m roster, not $20m.

Everyone agrees that in order to compete with the top of the Big Ten we need top of the Big Ten money.

But none of that relates to UMass and BC.
YOU said Rutgers can't compete with UMass and BC because we don't have the budget.

UMass and BC are not operating on even a bad Big Ten budget.
Your entire "well they have more talent" doesnt apply to UMass/BC competitiveness.

And you trying to make it about money actually makes Schiano look worse as a coach. Not the defense of him you think it is.

Exactly. This is not a spend it away problem. You can use the excuse when playing the OSU and USC’s of the world. We didn’t have enough to compete mantra. But you can’t use the same excuse with UMass, BC, Illinois,UCLA and anyone of his head scratching lose in the face of victory games over the past couple years. He has whiffed on evaluation and development the past 3-4 years.

Greg mismanaged the portal which is why we are having a terrible season.

But you can’t judge Greg without also taking into consideration the financial constraints imposed on him. Context matters, not to you, because you don’t know any better. Put enough 0’s on the check and kids would have come, DC or no DC.

A general manager would have helped the head coach maximize portal results. Basketball has a good one. Football needs one also.

They'd have a lot more money for players if Schiano didn't require such large NIL kickbacks. I've heard it's up to 50% in some cases.

The B1G has 18 teams. Maybe 5 or 6 are playoff teams. Maybe 3 are National Championship contenders. That leaves 12 or 13 teams that are in a lower tier. Teams that RU could beat with real coaching.

He’s in the bottom third of NIL, which is the biggest reason we don’t win. You need quality players to win, and we don’t have enough of them. I’ve listed the positions which are problems in the OP.
Did Curt Cignetti go 123-31 with coaching or talent at Indiana(Pa), Elon and James Madison(FCS/FBS)? Coaching is why he is 29-2 not talent.

How about Bob Chesney 132-52 at Salve Regina, Assumption, Holy Cross(44-21, 28-4) and James Madison? Talent or coaching? I think UCLA found their guy. Coaching > talent.

It's why Day, Riley and Lanning are as good as they are, they all studied uunder great coaching and Schiano studied under Butch Davis, a below average coach (87-75 in college) despite the great talent.

Give me a Joe Woodley type that went 80-9, 72-5 at Grand View and 8-4 at Drake or Joe Schmoe that went 150-18 at Sisters of the Poor College in Nowheresville USA.

What says $25M to you?
  • The portal DBs who can’t cover
  • The portal LBs who lack range
  • The portal DEs who can’t set the edge or rush the passer
  • The portal OL who barely sees the field
  • The portal QB who keeps throwing the ball to the other team.

    if this were a $25M roster, we’d be 2-0.
Greggy’s ability to evaluate and recruit or develop talent is why he is gone. Your point is right but your missing the root cause!

Your act is tired ! Zinn will be collecting your tickets! Enjoy the games at home

There were no financial constraints that led to Rutgers losing to UMass and BC. Against OSU and certain others we all agree that we’re at a disadvantage.

Not having a “real” GM or anew DC hired timely were decisions Greg’s made that have backfired.

Everything that has led to them being 0-2 is on Greg. It’s why his seat went from comfortable to scorching hot immediately.

There are no more 2nd chances with a new president and AD. Come to grips with it like everyone else has.

  • Inadequate NIL directly contributed to non competitive roster
    • $6M more would have provided us with enough talent to compete
  • Lower Level Kids that were acquired are acclimating to this level of play
    • Bradlee Jones played much better against BC
    • A $5M Quarterback would have resulted in a 2-0 Record
    • Instead we chose developmental projects due to lack of resources
      • Lonergan struggled against UMass
      • Surace looked better against BC but struggled with 4 turnovers
    • Surace will look much better next year but this year is a developmental year
  • Too many roster holes to overcome this year
    • Positive Impact Quarterback
    • Impact Defensive Ends
    • Impact Defensive Tackle
    • Quality Left Tackle
    • Impact Tight Ends look
    • Impact Safety
    • Impact Linebacker
      • McClary not ready

Illinois and UCLA have significantly outspent us in the portal and high school recruiting. I’m sure Kai Pritchard chose Illinois bigger bag.

Yea that’s not true. All the numbers have been shared multiple times. You just choose to ignore it. I know Kai’s coach personally. He gave RU the chance. It didn’t come down to money. Wanted to play for Flats.
And you asked for me not to respond to you directly. Now I’m asking for the same courtesy.

Be serious. Does any other B1G team have a QB situation similar to ours? No! Because they’re serious about winning football games. Greg didn’t have budget to get a good QB. Thats why we are making do, with Surace and Lonergan. Neither of whom were good enough to beat UMass or BC. Even Maryland paid for a 5 ⭐️QB.

Does Rutgers have the NIL to replace the 50+ transfers that are likely to occur? No! Do you really think the AD has funds to pay buyouts? It lost $78M last year! They’d probably need to borrow from the academic side, because we sure don’t have boosters who would write the check.

I welcome responses from you.

Kai Pritchard committed when FLats was still RU’ OLine Coach, so nice try.

I don’t care what numbers were shared.
UCLA has the 11th ranked transfer recruiting class. RU has the 53rd. Results matter.

For the last time, Rutgers should have been able to compete with UMass and bc. We couldn’t because we didn’t have a good qb. When a coach doesn’t have the adequate resources he asked for, to compete in the Big Ten, it doesn’t make him look worse.

But we haven't been "uncompetative" against the Big Ten yet.
The reason for all the fan outrage and calls for firing Schiano is because of UMass and BC.

You keep assigning "Big Ten" problems to UMass and BC.

Now they should have competed.
Earlier it was "well UMass NIL spending on a QB".

If they should have competed, then it wasnt a money or talent issue.
It was a coaching problem.
That means no mulligan on UMass or BC.

It was a QB talent issue. QBs weren’t talented enough to keep from throwing to the other team. The BC QB was slightly better. The UMass QB was a lot better.

You have reading comprehension problems. He wanted to play for Flats. Didn’t say anything about Flats being gone. Money was not the reason he committed elsewhere. 2 separate facts. It was the surrounding cast.
So next time I see Dannie I’ll let him know that it was money why Kai went to Illinois.

You don’t care about numbers because it doesn’t fit your ridiculous story. You have now changed your argument for the 1000th time. Money is an issue it’s just not “the” issue. All the money in the world would not change your excusing away the real problem.
I would love to sit with you during a game (not really) and see what you’re seeing. And see how you watch a game. Because I know you don’t know what you’re looking at. The first 2 losses had little to do with who was behind center. They didn’t help. But a good coaching staff should know how to play to their players strengths. And we haven’t done that in years. And the first 2 games were lost in the trenches and on the defensive side of the ball. For the 3rd straight year.

It was a QB talent issue. QBs weren’t talented enough to keep from throwing to the other team. The BC QB was slightly better. The UMass QB was a lot better.
It was a QB coaching issue. The coaches weren't good or sophisticated enough to teach either QB to read defenses, call less predictable plays, or at least change the offense so that the UMass head coach, who saw KC's limited playbook up close for several seasons, couldn't anticipate every call.

He had the funds otherwise Duff & Raymond wouldn’t be making $3 million combined.

They could have spent the $1 million or more on a QB since they had the money initially offered to Strong available. Greg opted to use a lesser amount and get Lonergan instead.

So it’s really poor decisions in hindsight that led us to the current QB situation.

The deficit is meaningless, a change is needed before they lose sponsors and NIL. You want to be penny wise and pound foolish just to save St. Greg. Tate and Zinn know this and won’t hesitate to do what’s necessary.

What’s funny is Obrien is and was upset about Lonergan leaving. He wanted him to stay and said so multiple times in his off season and lead into our game interviews. So Rutgers had to up what BC offered. Because it’s not like they tossed him away. Greg and team prioritized Lonergan and his skill set.
