Good morning folks. Heading out to for a run before the sun gets up. It may be a short one. My knee has been acting up and I don’t want to push beyond discomfort and really wreck it.

Then we’ll head for church, followed by a quiet day.

Nothing much else to report, so I’ll wish you well.
My knees were acting up for a while (still do periodically) but I found the best exercise/position for them is the Asian squat. Asians can squat down for long periods of time even in old age. You may have to start with holding on to something to begin with and start with 20-30 seconds in the squat and work your way to longer periods, but it has worked wonders for me. More and more "experts" are suggesting this for knees and hips. Also, I take glucosamine chondroitin supplements (started with 2 a day until I felt relief and then 1 a day). Just a suggestion here as my mobility improved with both of these things.

I do a lot of floating around on the internet looking for better ways of keeping my physical strength/agility up. Not ready to give up my ball playing days yet.

Just curious. What running shoes do you wear? If you have not already done it, you should search running shoes for knee issues. I don't run anymore with a bad leg, but I am pretty careful about the shoes I wear. A running shoe with very good cushioning helps me with just walking.

I walk 3-4 miles/day. Wear Brooks Glycerins. Heavily cushioned.

Hello All,

Back home now. The BB is going through some "adjustments" to his attitude after this morning. Nothing major. (He's a good boy.)

Reading the above, I have had left knee surgery back in about 1984. (Think I stated 1985 previously but my years run together at times.)

I had complete foot-drop for about two and a half years after that but my nerves regenerated a lot. I still have foot drop but slightly from what I previously had. I guard against stubbing my toes or tripping constantly but I walk okay except for my ole right hip now. (Working on it.) To young to hurt like I do in my hip and now will do about anything to get it corrected.

I am looking at tae chi (spelling?) the squatting for me is scary at best. (Was in the pool yesterday and felt some left knee issues I do not remember having but will get them checked. No pain anyway.)

We shall see. In any event, I am thankful...

I hope your day(s) today is fullfilling....

Bernie -- I've worn many different running shoes over the years, from my basketball Chuck Taylors in the mid- 1970s, through Brooks Villanovas (remember when they were a breakthrough?) back in the early 1980s, through lots of varieties of New Balance and Nikes -- remember, we're talking a half century of running at various levels of seriousness and intensity.

Today, I'm actually running in a pair of Hoka Clifton 10s, copying my Marathon-running wife who went to Hokas after she had a hairline hip fracture for the cushioning and joint support. If I had any notion that I wanted to increase my pace, Hokas wouldn't be the shoe. But they are fine for me now.

A brief aside about gym shoes. Back in 1985, when I was still playing basketball, I went to my local store to find some shoes. They had a pair on sale that were ugly as hell, but were exactly my size (13) and felt good. I wore them a few times, but never loved them, and just stuck them away. Fast forward about 40 years and I found those Fugly shoes at my parents house were stashed a bunch of stuff when I was making a move -- original Air Jordans, even in Michael Jordan's size. Mine are not in perfect shape, and I don't have the box, but apparently they are still worth maybe a thousand bucks (Google it.). I gave them to my son and suggested he sell them.

My Dad has had 3 knee replacements. Before his second one I asked his doctor what I needed to do to prevent knee issues. He said "it's easy, no running, no jumping". When I started to open my mouth with a question he interrupted "No running, no jumping. You can walk, swim, bike, hike but, no running, no jumping". So far, it's worked for me.

Dad & his two brothers had seven knee replacements between them.

I had one done going on two years ago - caused by cartilage damage 46 years earlier, not wear & tear. So unlikely to need the other one done. Asked doc what I could do on it & he said give it three months, then anything I want. I asked about skiing & he said fine. Haven't done that & now likely won't given age. Wish I'd had done earlier, but it really never bothered me that much till last 5 years before I had it done. Was getting gel injections for two years prior. All & all, just bad timing for the skiing. Oh well, knee's good. Plus the space between knees when I put ankles together is a much smaller wicket. Shoe wear is much more centered vs. outside edge.

When I started taking running as more than a casual thing, I bought a pair of Etonic Street Fighters. That was before running shoes became so big. I couldn't believe how good they felt. They aren't worth nothing like your Jordans, but I see ads where people are asking one or two hundred for them used. I guess Etonic has fallen behind these days though.

For you beer lovers.

Thieves Make Off With 50,000 Cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon in ‘Biggest Beer Heist Ever

A PBR party…. Dang how the mighty have fallen…. You could give me a six pack. I may be cordial and stand one but darn if I wouldn’t give or throw them away and I am about as frugal as you get….

Maybe too, the owners of the stuff may have rigged it to get insurance dough as they may have been reaching their expiration dates….

OT: I have my H-Wave device on going through a 30 minute session. After nearly two weeks it may be back to the drawing board for the docs.
