Curious why you think guys next year should get a 5th year, but not Mitchell? I'd agree if he was like the guys coming back from NFL training camps to the NCAA. Mitchell literally only went to a try out and didn't sign a professional contract.

The SEC can “announce” whatever rule it wants.
Kentucky fans don’t read those.
Kentucky coaches don’t follow those.
Kentucky > SEC!
If Kentucky doesn't follow rules and guidelines that they agreed to follow.
Kentucky and its programs will probably be punished monetarily and, with suspension for coaches, ADs.? Jmo

Mitchell has played 4 years. Get out! Your time is over. 5 for 5 doesn't start until next season and I hope it doesn't actually see realization. Its a silly step to take. It makes no sense when you are dealing with a tremendously successful enterprise like college basketball. You will see conferences take over from the NCAA. That will be a positive. Guidelines will be formed. If Pope were to try to get a player like Mitchell next season, hopefully it be against SEC guidelines. The ky. President will not allow such a BS move by Pope. Just my hope and opinion.

The fact that university presidents signed off on this is significant. While this years roster may be in legal limbo, this may be the last year we see such chaos. The president runs the university. Athletic Directors and coaches will follow the rules agreed upon by the SEC/ university presidents. Even Rupp had little to no power vs the university president and board. I personally like it. It may end a lot of the confusion we have now. Personally, I don't think Mitchell should be allowed to play.
Don’t think he should be allowed to play because of what reason exactly?! Because the kid THOUGHT he was out of eligibility?! I mean, why in the world would he pull out of the draft, thinking he was out of college eligibility?! There was literally zero reason for him to pull out of the draft. Lmfao

NOW, IF Mitchell was anything other than a senior during the draft, I could understand the argument that he shouldn’t be eligible. However, that’s NOT the case.

Sanky has the power to declare that any game Mitchell plays in, is a forfeit, no matter what the courts do or say. Go ahead and play him and see what happens.

Seems like all the member programs giving Sankey the authority to punish any that play certain players is everyone conceding. To me that sounds like it’s over and us and LSU and everyone else agreed “okay, we’re not gonna do this” What am i missing here?

Imagine thinking a sports league can ignore the federal court system. 🤣

The courts might not rule in MM's favor, but if they did the SEC can't just ignore it. WTF are you smoking?

I think RJ Luis and the UDFA contract NFL players are the real targets here. Ones that willingly give up eligibility and try to return like Luis and the NFL guys that have real contracts. These exhibit 10 tryout agreements for summer league are essentially just a tryout per diem. UDFA contracts for NFL guys are typically 3 year contracts with some amount(up to 250k I think) guaranteed.

My guess is UK believes Mitchell doesn’t fall into the SEC statement last night technically so they have no problem agreeing to it. Mitchell playing is almost 100% dependent on his court case alone.

Separate from the daily updates on eligibility for these guys, I’m fascinated to see if UK publicizes him.

I assume Mark should be moving to Lexington soon right? Will UK hype up his arrival on social media, will be something to watch as well.

To my knowledge there has been no “signing post” or campus picture for either Kohler at BYU or Mitchell at UK. Both of whom are in very similar situations and timelines.

they just changed it a little. its 5 for 5x5 now.

(i was thinking about this recently. mind blowing how much fast food prices have inflated in just the last 10 years).
Additionally, in concerted efforts to hold the line on price, portion size has really been reduced.

From what I understand, the SEC has the power to say Mitchell is ineligible regardless of what the courts say….
That has never been my understanding and, according to my AI search, the SEC cannot prevent him from playing by overriding court rulings ...

No, the Southeastern Conference cannot simply make Mark Mitchell ineligible "regardless of what the courts say," because private athletic conferences are still subject to state and federal laws, court injunctions, and legal challenges. [1]

The Legal Reality
    • Supremacy of Court Orders: If a judge issues an injunction or a binding legal ruling forcing eligibility or restraining rules against athletes from the 2022 class, the SEC and its member universities can be challenged in court for contempt or violation of those orders. [1]
    • New Conference Bylaws: The SEC adopted a policy barring players who participated in professional leagues or rosters from playing in the conference. However, legal experts note these bylaws do not give a conference absolute immunity from lawsuits. [1, 2]
    • The Next Legal Battle: Attorneys representing affected players have already signaled that the conference's new rules will face immediate legal challenges and requests for new injunctions naming the conference directly. [1, 2]

According to my AI search, it appears that such forfeiture of games is a possibility, but there still may be legal ramifications. It's very messy ... geez.

Yes, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and the conference hold internal governing power to set participation standards, though enforcing forfeits while facing active court injunctions creates a complex legal battle. [1]

Conference vs. Court Power
    • Internal Authority: Conference leadership and member schools maintain jurisdiction over SEC competition rules, meaning they can theoretically impose penalties, fines, or forfeit rulings for playing athletes they deem non-compliant. [1, 2]
    • The Legal Conflict: Mark Mitchell is fighting in a Kentucky court for a fifth year of college eligibility, while Sankey and other major conference commissioners have formally asked judges to deny these extra eligibility requests. [1, 2]
    • The Forfeit Risk: While a court order can temporarily force an athlete to be cleared to play, legal analysts note that a conference can still attempt to penalize member institutions through internal disciplinary actions if schools defy conference-level eligibility boundaries. [1, 2, 3]

What a stupid hill to die on for the SEC. Hope we play him anyway and sue the **** out of the conference.
IMO Mitchell has a lot to do with the SEC taking this stand. I told all my friends if the Louisville court case was won, this is one hill they will die on.
SEC basketball has been completely revived with UK losing 10 games a season. I think that’s Sankeys plan. Our terrible whistle , problems getting guys eligible ( Big Z, and our foreign guy last year. Mitches cozy relationship with Sankey. All designed to hold UK down as much as possible. When UK ruled the conference in basketball. There were 100 people at a Tuesday night game against Georgia and Ole Miss. Football schools don’t and won’t care about basketball if they are not winning. Shoot, Florida is winning and their fans don’t care, won’t travel or spend money. Saving it all for football.

there's still the in conference transfer hurdle, if things indeed went like everyone stated yesterday, I'm still waiting on the SEC to interpret #3 and seems they can do that however they want.

🤞 It works out, Mitchell opens everything up and makes this team 🏆 contender.

On a serious note, for the life of me I can’t understand how Sankey got the member schools to unanimously vote in favor of these restrictions when you have multiple programs football and basketball immediately encumbered by them.
Football. What was happening with 2 portal windows is recruits and transfers would sign with a school \ transfer in. Then go thru spring practice with their team. If they felt buried on the depth chart at their position, they entered the 2nd portal window and transferred out after spring practice. Taking knowledge of the plays, playbooks and players to another SEC team.
They passed this rule. Then the portal window after spring was agreed by everyone to be deleted. The reason for the no SEC to SEC transfer is now gone anyway.

I think this is right and the reason his legal team has handled it the way they have vs some of the other cases. Good lawyers are money well spent even if they are also the worst thing in the entire world.

The idiots above using AI to argue with AI is everything that is wrong with the world today.

Also there is very little chance he ever plays for us. This whole this is embarrassing for college athletics.
