obviosly I said push or shove I did not say crack back. You have a helmet and pads on. Grabbing your facemask isn’t abuse either.

I wouldn't be wanting him fired for pushing or shoving or grabbing a face mask. He didn't do any of that he kicked a football at him and unfortunately it hit him in the balls. Sure he (hopefully) wasn't aiming for that but it happened and it was his fault. A coach cannot do that to discipline a player whether it is intentional or not.

While in high school during football practice, offense running goal line plays. One of the offensive linemen got hurt and was writhing in pain. Head coach thought he was loafing, got furious and just told the offense to line up and proceeded to run 3 or 4 plays right over the guy laying on the ground. That obviously didn’t help the situation and turns out the lineman had compound fracture in upper leg.
Yes, coaches today would go to prison for similar actions.

Anyone grew up back then were led to think that way and it perpetuates that behavior throughout society. Coaches are teachers and they are teaching these kids it's OK to lose your **** and hit someone. That is messed up.

Maybe I have a burr up my butt because I have witnessed some bad **** and too many times and someone says, I will have a talk with him A few months later his wife shows up at funeral with a black eye because she wanted to go to her cousin's funeral. That **** happened to my sister and I did nothing because she wouldn't leave him or some other made up reason that allow me to look the other way. I should have stepped in and did not and neither did anyone else. I am ashamed of myself for not stepping in. OH, this guy? Baptist Minister and Counselor, a real piece of work.

FYI, it was way worse in the generations before us. My grandfather kicked my grandmother down some stairs in public in 1935 because he lost his cool. She bled to death. No charges, nothing happened to him at all. Left my father without a mother at age 11 with 6 younger siblings and an abusive MF as a father. My dad, WWII & Korean Vet and police officer for 30-40 years was a much a badass as anyone I knew. He did nothing either because he had been programmed to accept it but he didn't act sadistic, just accepting of it as OK. My dad was kind as he could be and I have seen him deescalate potential situations many time by remaining calm. He knew he could kill, maim, hurt, dominate most any man at any time but he had seen enough violence to learn it wasn't the way. In real war, the man that looses his **** ends up dead. Those kind of men don't' make it when the **** hits the fan.

Coaches are examples of what real men are to many kids, many without fathers and grow up thinking real men do this stuff. As a high school football coach you are much more than just wins and losses. Your job is develop boys into men in a way that a school room cannot and is one of the most important jobs in a school system to me.

I was trained to think just like you but I had a father that was kind and strong. When you allow the mentors of our kids to loose their **** and strike someone without consequences then not only will they continue that behavior, it teaches the next generation it's OK. It is not.

Just because our generation did something one way does not make it right nor does it make us sadist. for living through it. It's OK to say that something was wrong and not think we all were sadist. It was just too easy to look away make excuses.
