I can’t believe Togoev gassed so hard. He teched everyone at euros including Kurashvili and now gassed and gets teched. Big for the US though keeping Mastny alive

I post this to ask this: I've not had time to follow U20s up until this point due to all the football stuff going on. Do any of you who have been following it have a rough guess of when James' first match might be tomorrow morning? Thanks!

I can give you a really close guestimate after the last match of today as the bout board will reset.

Around 430 am if I had to guess. Looking at brackets he will be 6th match on his mat. No bout order has been released yet. But it's looking like mat A. Repechage could also change things depending how they run those currently those bout #s are after James

Awesome win for Cortez! He wrestled a really smart match, especially giving up the 2 at the end there when he felt the danger he was in.
As I put in pbp, I can't figure out how UZB never went on the clock. It was even offered but white paddled. I really have grown to like GR where the first point matters. I would love to see if a match is 1-1 with both points off passivity the first one is important. That way they will stop giving the aggressor the first clock.

That wasn't the first time I've been totally confused by those calls. I thought that Cortez was the one controlling center and he got put on the clock. Then, as you said, they white paddled putting UZB on the clock. It didn't make sense.

Speaking of honor, or the lack thereof, check out the match between Seidel and Khateri. Seconds before Khateri walked out to start the second period (and after one of the coaches had toweled off his shoulders, the main Iranian coach threw some water on Khateri's right shoulder and rubbed his wet hand on the back of Khateri's neck. Khateri then went out to the mat and the referee sent him back to his corner to be toweled off, giving Khateri another 25-30 seconds to catch his breath and his coach more time to coach him! Pretty sneaky and dishonorable in my book.

‘back of the neck’ reminded me of a time when I went to the Nittany Lion Open and the mats are all going on and one of the bouts are starting second period and first guy goes down. Ref signals the top guy to take his position and top guy leans over and adjusts bottom guy’s singlet tag back Inside the uniform. Top guy assumes his position and ref blows the whistle to start.

They'll clock the aggresser first so if it's a 1-1 tie the agressor scores last and wins the match if it's 1-1 but if there's any scoring....

Burton got shafted. The idiot bald replay official is going to cost wrestling. Changed 2 and 2 to 2 and 1 as if Japan wasn't exposed by Burton's counter then if anything the last second replay should have been action and Japan step out when his elbow hit.

I didn't see the whole match. You don't think that last call was botched?

Why didn't Burton get the earlier 1 point for the reversal? It was on the board then taken off
He got the reversal. Japan exposed and then Burton countered for exposure and ended on top. Replay official saw it as no exposure and awarded the reversal. I want the idiot to explain to me how Japan was on his back since Japan didn't initiate getting "reversed"

This play by plsy fight is honestly the most ridiculous thing I have seen on this board ever and that says a lot lol. Either post PBP in the thread as the match occurs or don't post pbp. Nobody wants to scroll back several pages to find the pbp. So what if people post spoilers. Most of us am sure are at work and just want to know if our guys won.

Kurashvili was chocked out while up 3-0. He was completely out and medics rushed in from everywhere. Kaz asks for a challenge which is letting him clear the cobwebs Kurashvili up 4-0 at the break on the lost challenge. Need him to bring Mastny into repechage.

Kurashvili survives being guillotined and brings Mastny back.

I’m so happy that Bo flipped to VaTech so I can generally root for him in his college career. They have some amazing studs!
You might have to hold back cheering for him in another year or two.

If I were a betting man, which I am not, I would wager $100 he will not stay at VT for 5 years. He will chase both the limelight and more money, guaranteed. He's already talking that he would like to wrestle with Jax.

He would slide in nicely in our lineup next year, but I think if he bails, our chances are probably less than 50%.

Burton was already exposed before Japan initiated the spin. Nothing Japan did put Burton in exposure as Burton maintained his lock.
Getting whistled twice while Japan's heels were on the line twice didn't help either

Also there was plenty of chances to call Japan for passivity in the 2nd period

Have to assume, it's effecting them somewhat, be it emotionally, pressure, lack of access to typical training facilities. In Russia and Ukraine they definitely know people that have died. Iran, too, I would think. The scale of death is hard for us to understand, myself included.
Iranians might also be emotionally affected by the Iranian wrestlers their regime has killed.

You could've had him but the staff decided against it

Fernandez vs Berezhnova Russia 68 kg Bronze

Fernandez thicker.

Fernandez working ties as both have a foot in the center circle. Fernandez snaps to front headlock and go behind for TD. 2-0 Fernandez working right underhook as Russia warned. Fernandez holding center with underhook now in over under position. Fernandez front headlock to go behind again. 4-0 Fernandez at the break.

2nd
Fernandez feignts fron distance before Russia warned for face slaps. Fernandez constant forward pressure but Russia isn't on the clock. Fernandez hasn't taken a backwards step the entire match. Fernandez warned for fingers. Fernandez backing up to avoid the throws and wins 4-0. A three minute period with no scoring should have had someone on the clock.
