He’s a good player. I figured BYU with the religious and local connection. I think it’s interesting BYU had more success in the ncaa tournament with their coach prior to Pope and more success in the postseason and recruiting with the new coach after Pope. Really makes you wonder why Brigham Young University basketball fans are way happier now that he is gone while so many Kentucky fans cling to the notion Pope is Hurley 2.0 and going to be great just because he played here.
Don’t forget we paid BYU $6mil for mark pope too.

I’m afraid with Sankey and the SEC asking the judge to rule him ineligible he’ll have a hard time getting to play. Don’t get me wrong I’ve went on record on this board I’d want Mitchell more than anyone although Kohler would have been great.
Then are mo at lsu, Aberdeen at Florida, Garrison at Bam ineligible?

Look Mitchell has always been the first choice ,heck nobody knew he was a possibility till the zoom,They told him to wait and see ,and he didn't want to ,so I believe Mitchell will get the injunction and be a cat,he was always first choice
No one knows if that is true or not. 1st reports say pope and uk did not even contact Mitchell when he 1st became available, but they were already contacting kohler. Could also be true uk was trying to get kohler to wait until the Mitchell situation was decided. No one truly knows

Exactly.

So the logic of "well we didn't lead for him so it's not a whiff" is just wild to me.

The mere fact that we didn't lead for him and a large portion of recruits since Pope has taken over is EXACTLY the problem here lol.

You can't lead for everyone. This one guy in of itself isn't the problem. But its the pattern of always finishing 2nd or 3rd or 4th that Pope has had here is.
Exactly right but if you look at this continual pattern and acknowledge that there is a problem, then you are labeled a troll or non fan. Kohler and the over seas guy that picked ucla over uk are the latest examples.

Sometimes y'all guys confuse me on here. Is anybody seriously upset that this guy went to byu? It was said a week ago we were out on him.

I for one was kind of happy when I seen he committed to BYU. Simply because I want Mitchell and we can't have both. Now if Mitchell commits somewhere else I will be kind of annoyed because I am expecting him to be a cat. Never expected kholer to be a cat.

Guys there is like 365 other school and 25% have just about the same money as us. So if you take off that “Kentucky standard” bs everyone always talks about there isn’t a ton of reason to come here unless you like the culture/gameplan

Yep.

Lost in all the narratives is the fact that the UK staff clearly doesn't think their current pair of 4 men (N'Diaye/McBride) are capable of playing heavy minutes the SEC; otherwise, why would the staff have recruited over them?

Got to get Mitchell.
I think Pope is doing the right thing by trying to get another difference maker, but he keeps losing these battles and it certainly is a bad look.

However, our media seems to know too much. Nobody seems to know what's going on behind the scenes at duke, uNC, UT, Kansas etc… , but everything Pope does, is broadcast for all to know.

As fans, it's great that we know what's going on, but this is the reason Cal stopped telling us… ..anything. "I don't know" "haven't seen him", "you'll have to ask him". The fans and media really shouldn't know everything and Pope will eventually learn that.

All these misses are right out there for everyone to see and when they also know that you had a 2-1/2 hour zoom with Kohler, they know you went all in and missed on another guy that BYU got.

Now, I wanted Mitchell over Kohler. Kohler didn’t do much for me tbh, so if Pope gets MM, great, all is good, but if he misses… .wow. You can't miss this often in this seat.

How many hours do you think Pope has wasted on Zoom with these guys?

Remember right after Pope was trolled by Stokes and after that decision immediately fled the country, flying out to Israel to desperately ***** himself out recruiting a C level player in Marcio Santos?

And then Will Wade literally sitting at home just texts Santos saying "F that nerd, come play here" and we immediately lost him to LSU? Lol.

What is impressive is that despite Pope being an absolutely awful recruiter and evaluator, it still will *mostly* work out for him because the system is basically designed for him not to fail. We've always got a ton of money to throw at players and now with the fifth year shenanigans we've got a never-ending stream of backup options despite missing out on target after target.

That issue has nothing to do with Mo and Garrison. They’ve only had three CBB seasons, so of course they indisputably have remaining eligibility.
Right, but that's not the latest issue. Sankey and a few others are trying to block this, because they don't want Mitchell to transfer from one SEC school to another SEC school.

The fact that Mitchell didn’t enter his name into the portal prior to now, is irrelevant to the conversation when the NEW reason is the SEC school to SEC school issue.

Fact is, there are plenty of other SEC to SEC transfers, so why is it an issue now all the sudden?

If the SEC and NCAA want to fight this over the 2022 eligibility issue, cool, but that's not what Sankey is doing. You can't block Mitchell from transferring to another SEC school when you've allowed several other players to do it. Hell, Aberdeen did it twice.

I think a lot of people have been overestimating sankey and the ncaa ability to unfairly target certain players.

if Mitchell is cleared and ready to go but then sankey blocks it, I think we have the capability and a big enough fan base that we would make it national news

So TLDR if Mitchell is cleared by a judge than he is playing UK basketball

I think the other SEC to SEC transfers were within the transfer window to transfer intra conference.

The SEC requires transfers to announce their intent prior to June, Mitchell did not. Not even remotely close to Aberdeens situation.

Well Jalen Washington is the exact same situation, plus there is a few others coming from other conferences going to the likes of Oklahoma, etc.

Anyway, Aberdeen only entered the portal because he thought he might get a fifth year due to not playing much his freshman year. It would be dumb to enter if you had no idea you'd have the opportunity to play and no court would deny a window to open if someone was deemed eligible after the fact.

Aberdeen also said he transferred to finish some credits at UF over the summer to graduate. So his 'completely different' situation, in which he still played 4 full years of basketball, was a complete stroke of luck.

My argument is that he listened to several presentations by different coaches and NIL people and had a QA with them as well.

I guess you could call it a miss since they would have taken him but it’s well known that Mitchell is there guy.
Then why are we so heavily involved with so many of these guys, and we are basically never the perceived leader? The few times we have been the leader like Wright, Caleb Wilson, Stokes, Christian Collins, etc somehow it almost always goes wrong. It is insanity and anyone saying otherwise is lying to themselves.

Why would someone without eligibility enter a portal? Since they've been given a 5th year of eligibility, it's ridiculous for the SEC to punish it's own members.
I don’t know. I’ve asked the same question several times on here. Doesn’t change the SEC rule though.

I was just responding to those comparing other SEC to SEC transfers and wondering why Mitchell is different. That’s why. Even if I find it stupid.

Yeah but we never had a shot at this guy.
You have absolutely ZERO facts to back up that statement, only he his family and Pope know anything about how serious negotions with him were or were not. Such assertions are idiotic. However it would seem to me that Pope should refrain from recruiting battles with BYU for Mormons from Utah, pretty big hill to climb there.

It’s beyond ridiculous how much BYU owns Pope. Anybody with above room IQ knew how this was going to go.

Becoming harder and harder to recruit top level guys. All the more reason having a coach that's a great recruiter is just as important if not more than the actual coaching IMO.
