Most are happy to be done with Franklin and onto a new era...the schedule is pretty soft (nothing in the non-conference and miss out on Ohio St/Oregon/Indiana) so it does give Campbell an opportunity to put up a better record than we probably should (this almost certainly isn't the 18th best roster in the country). Some landmines that most are overlooking (ie the road game at Northwestern on a Friday night to open their new stadium), but something like 9-3 seems realistic (though many would probably be disappointed with that result).

Where is Penn State athletics going to get the money to pay $44 million of debt service every year for the next 40 years? Penn State is starting by raising ticket prices.

Penn State's football ticket sales revenue was $44 million in the 2024 season, $44 million in 2023, $42 million in 2022, and $41 million in 2021. Penn State needs to double ticket prices to fund the debt service. That won't happen.

As for Beaver Stadium, could care less and I refuse to put down Rutgers Athletics to make what Penn St is doing look good compared to how Rutgers atoll owes for its Stadium expansion .
The expansion was needed and if Rutgers could have played better since the stadium was expanded the debt wouldn't be such a problem , because it would be always filled and that would help pay the debt down .

I feel many of the Nit fans complaining are mainly frustrate over PSU not being considered a cream of the crop program anymore, being a 2nd tier football team just below the best where they once were classified .
So now instead of blind faith in the program and what the program plans to do , they are now starting to nitpick what the cost is to attend and the money the program spends.

I love Rutgers football and have been regularly going to games since the very early 1990's. Back then in my early 20's going for a day of Rutgers football was a fun saturday thing to do. Tailgate, Game, post tailgate made for a great day. Now approaching my 60's and the arms race in College football has really turned me off. I can't describe what the difference is but college athletics just doesn't have the same "Feel" about it. Sure it is because I now have been around Rutgers Football for decades and am older but the local rivalries just don't feel the same.
With the college Athletes now getting paid I am just not that invested in watching college sports anymore. These are professionals now and if I want to watch professionals play I do that on sundays.
College football for decades was an addition to the overall college experience now, College football at some schools is more important than the Academic mission of the school. IMHO that should not be. I am not sure how many more years I have left in me for going to the games. Of course if we have a magical 2006 like season I will be right back in it but it has been a long stretch since that incredible run!

The person that posted it clearly didn't understand the price increase. There was previously a donation required for tickets + the actual ticket cost. Going forward, they removed the donation, and it's now all part of the ticket cost. Overall, there is an increase, but certainly not close to 389%.

I would argue academic reputation is better marketing for state universities than academics.

Alabama has won six national football championships since 2004, more than any other school. During this time, the school's academic ranking has nosedived. The situation is so bad there, Alabama fell out of the top 175 in 2025 and 2026. Alabama-Birmingham is ranked higher than the flagship Tuscaloosa campus.

At the same time, Rutgers and the top two California publics, UCLA and Berkeley, have climbed the rankings despite football programs that have been mediocre or worse over most of the past two decades.

To be sure, prominent sports teams are a draw for some out of state students which Alabama needs to keep the school afloat. Alabama's college-age demographics are horrible and a large and growing majority of Alabama students now come from out of state. In contrast, Rutgers, UCLA, and Berkeley have no trouble filling their classes with qualified in-state students.

College sports should not be run to make a profit. I agree. However, athletic directors should stop lying to university boards when borrowing money for stadium projects. And a board should ask more questions when an athletic director says the athletic department will pay for the debt service using an imaginary surge in new revenue. A few Penn State board members voted against the stadium project because the university refused to provide them with the financial details.
