i dont understand this argument. yeah pope beat duke. was down double digits and completely outclassed. then duke missed every 3 in the 2nd half and uk gutted it out. big win good vibes. how did pope do against clemson or ohio state, or georgia....

in the last 2 years duke as won 70-7, won the ACC regular season twice, won the ACCT twice, 1 final four, 1 elite 8. they will start the season ranked #2.

meanwhile we know our story that is filled with a laundry list of excuses. but lets all get excited heading into pope's 3rd year where we will be picked 5th or 6th in SEC.
Wow. Found a Duke fan.

How did he do against msu, ul, Gonzaga last year?
I get it, you are kinda slow but I'll respond the same way I did to the other slow poster who tried the same post drift. Reposted my exact response.

It was directed at someone who said "Pope lost to Kelsey."

Nothing more was said or insinuated. No conjecture. No argument. I simply asked the poster, how'd Pope do against Duke since he left that out of his tantrum. Duke was included in that tantrum, the other programs you just hopped in and added were not. I was neither defending Pope or attacking Duke. You saw a chance to jump into a conversation you were not a part of, inject your opinion, and try and steer the conversation away from the original claims. Kuddos. Nothing you said is false by the way, and I don't disagree. But that has nothing to do with crabby pants crapping on Pope in every post he makes without telling the whole story.

Probably been a fan longer than you have been alive but uk isn't relevant any longer, falling into the same category as iu and ucla. Yet those that continue to drink the blue kool-aid see no difference in the product on display
No and no lol

The same 13 loss season we tied the all time record for most wins against the top 25 with 8. I would say beating Florida (the eventual national champions was actually the high point of the season), not the overrated Dukies, but it's six here, half a dozen there at that point. Quick to point out 13 losses with a roster made from portal scraps and no high school recruits, but quicker to leave out the accomplishments. Me thinks you are just a sour puss.
Can agree with you on his 1st season. That team was better constructed than 2nd year when he had plenty of time to recruit. Yet wound up paying big money to jq that was still injured, a 2nd rate point guard and no shooters. Even the fans knew that team was going to struggle. Then add the zero high school recruits for the upcoming season, the future is shaky at best

Different strokes for different folks. Some fans look at UK shooting poorly against OH State and Georgia and say “Pope sucks” and they see Duke shoot poorly against UK and say “Poor Duke”.
If only games were played in only one half. Duke sympathizer says UK was outclassed in first half (UK was down 9 at the half). Duke was like 4-24 from three for the game. UK outscored Duke 40-26 in the second half, but that was because classy Duke just went cold. LOL

Year 2 was an over-correction no doubt. The blame ultimately falls at his feet because he is the head coach for year 2. The roster construction probably was a combination of things, he had people in his ear telling him what he needed and went away from what he normally recruits, he wanted to improve in athleticism and defensively, he wanted desperately to insulate himself from injury, and he had (at the time) JMI and Mitch issues to navigate through that not all agents seemed to like. Mind you, I am NOT defending Pope and using excuses. I just understand he was in over his head and he doubled down instead of admitting as much.

Year 3 though I think is his most talented roster "on paper" and closer to what he wanted out of year 1 athletically while regressing some defensively. I think most everyone here can agree, unless this team performs at a high clip, Pope is unlikely to get year 4. If he gets to the weekend of the SEC tournament and a Sweet 16, it won't be enough for fans, but it'll probably be enough for the new AD to give him year 4 to avoid a coaching search against Kansas and possibly Duke (if Scheyer goes pro to coach, though unlikely), and possibly Florida (same for Golden, he may go to the NBA after his seniors graduate this year). It will be interesting to watch unfold, but I certainly like this team better than year 2. (Though Frank still scares the crap out of me with his health, but adding Mitchell or similar for spot 15 would make me less fearful).

Fools gold? My gosh, the Nancies only see the negative. Downplaying the wins in Pope’s first year just makes you look stupid.
Instead of going personal why not argue your opinion?

It’s not hard to see that Pope does nothing well as a head coach.

The truth is just the truth. Maybe that’s why the Popettes have to go personal?

Have there been NIL negotiations? I doubt the SEC has permitted that without a court ruling. Even with a court ruling, the NCAA has been pursuing appeals and at least one court has questioned the the injunction. Are these players likely to win? I don’t know but have doubts.

imagine it being a bad thing hating being 46-26 over 2 years....wild
Why keep crying about the first two years instead of looking forward to this season SMH? Dan Hurley was 35-29 in his first two seasons at UConn. 46-26 sounds pretty good compared to that, especially starting with no players and playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. Hurley went 38-18 in years three and four. In other words, you would have fired Hurley, say anything else and you're lying.

People hate to be logical. It don’t Fit their narrative. Pope had to rebuild a whole roster 2 years in a row thanks to cal leaving so late.

i'm not firing anyone. thats the problem with folks like you. none of us have the power or job. but 35-29 over 2 years is just as bad as 46-26. as a fan it is totally NORMAL to state that 46-26 is just not good enough no matter the excuses. because it isnt. what did hurley do to change the narrative....WIN!!!! do you really believe if hurley kept losing at that rate, uconn would be like: "cool, go get'm next year". no, he would be fired by now.

you need to win....and pope to date has not won and lived up to the standard. thats not "hating", its just the actual results. and looking at this season, with the roster that is currently in place will probably be ranked 17-25, 5th or 6th in the SEC. that isn't good enough either but its on pope to over perform. if he does great, if he doesnt....add another 11, 12, 13 losses to the record with nothing to show for it.

Hurley won in year 5 years fella. Spin it any way you want to spin it, you can hate all you want, but Pope may have a very good year here, end up staying a long time and winning a title. Many on here hope he doesn't do that so they can say they were right about him. And that's pitiful

Pope did even though he was favored and spent 22 million on a lousy roster with lousy results.
You come on here spewing the 22 million dollar roster as gospel like you have proof. You don't. And neither does anyone else. You also never mention the injuries to a first round draft pic and to the starting point guard, backup decomitted before season, and Kam also missed significant time. Guess those facts don't support your narrative....lol weak, simple minded troll

Look at the schedules. One was way easier than the other
and at no point does anyone put an asterisk on the trophy/banner with stuff like that. its only losers who bring it up. florida played in the same conference as us, won the league last year and lost just 2 games and got a 1 seed in the tournament. everyone else can do. but we have our excuses.
