And if not we are top 15. Pretty good for a team that "can't even get a visit" lol
Started out that way last year too
Where you satisfied with last year?
22 million dollar roster and basically a laughing stock
Since 2015 uk hasn't been relevant or threat for title
Uk fans laugh at iu and ul before Kelsey was hired, and how Duke would fall after k retired. Duke has remained on top and Pope lost to Kesley. UK under Pope is like that commercial....fallen and can't get up.

How'd Pope do against Duke?

On where we stand now I completely agree.

But we were certainly contenders in ‘17, ‘19, ‘20, ‘22 and ‘24.

We won’t be again until we are Pope free.

Nancy is working hard in this thread. If you only count recruiting losses, you best not follow recruiting as a fan.
The recruiting losses people always humor and confuse me to some degree. We have 15 roster spots total, no more. Even if every single player graduates or transfers, 15 spots. Every high major program contacts roughly 100 players in recruiting to gauge interest, fit, character, etc. Shockingly not just UK. If we have a zoom call with John Doe that doesn't mean we offered him a scholarship. If things go decent on that call and we try and set up a visit and he goes elsewhere, we still haven't offered him. That's not a recruiting LOSS. At the end of the day we will offer between 25-40 players in a given year (high school plus portal), just like all the other high major schools. So even if out roster was empty with zero returning players, we'd miss on 10-25 players by some logic, every single cycle. Most schools are looking at that initial 100 they contact and trying to dwindle it to 2-3 that are the best fit. Missing on a guy you go all in on is certainly a miss in recruiting regardless of how things turn out later (Stokes for example), but the guy you zoom called a couple times who wants $7 million and demands you retire his number after he leaves so you decide to move off him is NOT a miss. And I'm genuinely perplexed by people who refuse to see that. Like, "We offered 5 Centers this cycle and only landed 1, *insert Coach name here* is a disgrace and missed on the other 4. He should have landed all of them." Like, what?

How'd Pope do against Duke?
i dont understand this argument. yeah pope beat duke. was down double digits and completely outclassed. then duke missed every 3 in the 2nd half and uk gutted it out. big win good vibes. how did pope do against clemson or ohio state, or georgia....

in the last 2 years duke as won 70-7, won the ACC regular season twice, won the ACCT twice, 1 final four, 1 elite 8. they will start the season ranked #2.

meanwhile we know our story that is filled with a laundry list of excuses. but lets all get excited heading into pope's 3rd year where we will be picked 5th or 6th in SEC.

It was directed at someone who said "Pope lost to Kelsey."

Nothing more was said or insinuated. No conjecture. No argument. I simply asked the poster, how'd Pope do against Duke since he left that out of his tantrum. Duke was included in that tantrum, the other programs you just hopped in and added were not. I was neither defending Pope or attacking Duke. You saw a chance to jump into a conversation you were not a part of, inject your opinion, and try and steer the conversation away from the original claims. Kuddos. Nothing you said is false by the way, and I don't disagree. But that has nothing to do with crabby pants crapping on Pope in every post he makes without telling the whole story.

That is such spin and BS. We played them and we kicked their ***. Dors Duke need a participation trophy for leading a game they lost?

trailing for 30 minutes of a 40 minute game, down 10 in the first half, down 9 at halftime, and being down 8 with 10mins to go is an interesting definition of "we kicked their ***".

Different strokes for different folks. Some fans look at UK shooting poorly against OH State and Georgia and say “Pope sucks” and they see Duke shoot poorly against UK and say “Poor Duke”.
because one team finishes the year losing 3 games, the other team loses 13 games. not that hard to see which performance is the anomaly.

But we won? Right? I watched the game and our score was more than their score?
yes we won. then lost to unranked ohio state, clemson, and uga. on the way to a stellar 13 loss season. but you are right...we beat duke on a neutral court by 5 points the 3rd game into the season. high point of the year, 3 games in.

The win against Duke seemed like a turning point but was only fools gold. Yes Pope also beat Gonzaga but was humiliated by msu and izzo and Gonzaga annihilated him in Nashville, lost to ul. Chasing Stokes, Pope was like a dog in summer, tongue hanging out for a drink of water.

The same 12 loss season we tied the all time record for most wins against the top 25 with 8. I would say beating Florida (the eventual national champions was actually the high point of the season), not the overrated Dukies, but it's six here, half a dozen there at that point. Quick to point out 12 losses with a roster made from portal scraps and no high school recruits, but quicker to leave out the accomplishments. Me thinks you are just a sour puss.

Pope did even though he was favored and spent 22 million on a lousy roster with lousy results.

You keep moving the goal posts. We could win the championship and youd say “well rupp won two in a row”

FTR, they didn’t lose 13 games that year.

we were also down 18 to gonzaga back in 2024. but good thing they shot 0-9 from three in the 2nd half and shot 58% from the line. was it our amazing defense that finally showed up or a fluke? for all of pope's bad luck with injuries he has had, i would counter he has had some really good luck in terms of how the basketball bounces. oweh had 3 game winners, moreno 1 over the 2 year stretch. tenn folding in 4 regular season games.

Are you delusional? Pope beat Duke year 1 with portal scraps. His "22 million" roster was year 2.

For reference, since we are in your revisionists version of history. They played on Nov 12, 2024. Duke was ranked #6 in the country, UK was ranked #19. Duke was a 5.5 point betting favorite. This information can easily be looked up. It's right there. It's almost like ya'll make stuff up hoping something will stick. It's quite impressive how committed you are to being dumb. Truly inspiring.

How much did Duke spend on their roster in 24-25? How about in 25-26? How about this year? If your answer is anything less than 30 million you are kidding yourself.
