Stroke and distance only applies to OB, lost ball or unplayable.
No, applies at any time. Rule 18.1: "At any time, a player may take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6). The player always has this stroke-and-distance relief option... No matter where the player’s ball is on the course."

I've seen it done at Pinehurst No. 2 in tournament conditions.

Dam, I never knew that. Thanks for the info.

Yep. I’ve told my dad now that he has a ton of trouble in some deep bunkers around his course that he needs to take an unplayable. 4 out of 5 times he can’t get out and just picks up.

USGA actually made a video at Pinehurst about the rule a few years ago...

Anyone going to the Wyndham next week? I'll be at the beach all week, but may go on Sunday when I get back.

Why leave town? Wyndham has a beach on the 15th hole, ha. Fun tourney to attend if it’s not blistering hot.

Does anyone know why David Ford hasn’t played a tournament since early April?

Yeah, and they've got some big names teeing it up this year. So far I've seen Spieth, JT, Koepka, Rai, etc. I think I counted 12 of the top 50 in the world committed so far.

Four or five years ago I volunteered, and ran Shotlink on one of the holes. It was so hot I got really sick and puked a few times. Then a thunderstorm came up and they suspended play. When play gets suspended, they get the players off the course immediately, but volunteers are left to figure it out for themselves. Me and this old lady who was also a volunteer on the same hole tried to cut through the neighborhood streets to find a shortcut back to the clubhouse, and got turned around. Jason Dufner whizzed past us on a golf cart and made eye contact with me, but didn't offer us a ride. I've hated him ever since.

At the Wells Fargo in 2025 Aaron Rai almost killed a girl on 16 when he pushed his 2nd shot and missed her head by less than a foot.

Didn't know Bryson wanted to call Trump 😂 ..probably learned that from Tiger

Who on here is a good but not great golfer and still games blades? I read an article yesterday that made the case that we've all been duped into believing large cavity backs are the only solution for the average recreational golfer. I need a new set of irons in the next year or so, and this article peaked my curiosity...

I used to be close to great(ish) when I was much younger and had a lot more time to play. Now I'm just good. I still play a 20 year old set of Mizuno MP-32 blades. I've considered other irons, but nothing else fits my eye when I address the ball.

I've been using a set of Mizuno JP-EZ's for at least a decade. Honestly I really like them, but I never got fit for them, they're beneath my skill level, and they're not even forged. I've lost a lot of distance in my mid-forties over the last two years, and I feel like I need to get fit for my current swing. I do like them, but I also never hit anything else so I have no idea if I'd be better or worse with a different set.

My biggest issue has always been my driver. I'm probably a 6-7 handicap from the fairway, but I'm a 30 handicap off the tee. I'm officially a 10.8 who loses probably 6-8 balls per round from errant drives, if that tells you anything. It's completely mental, because I hit it fine on the range. I get anxiety from all the scar tissue once I step onto the tee box, though.

^if you play that much just go get fitted by someone reputable and ask him not to tell you what you are hitting. Full bag. I doubt he fits you with blades. You could find something that really fits your eye as well, which I believe is part of it. Same with the driver.

Ironically, the strongest argument for blades is how well they fit the eye. I think that would be a unanimous opinion among pretty much all golfers that blades just look sharper. Whether I could game them or not is an entirely different story...

After being rumored for several weeks now, the LIV Golf team championship event that was supposed to take place in Michigan has been formally canceled.

The next 6 months are going to be fascinating to watch for LIV and its relevant players. They're going to have to declare bankruptcy, and I can't imagine there's any way they sell Rahm on staying with an equity deal after that. BDC will be more interesting. There's a realistic scenario for him to stay, but you'd have to give him the keys to the castle, but that's a ton of risk for such a mercurial individual in a sport where irrelevancy is always one bad swing thought away for even the most prodigious talents.

If I'm this hypothetical anonymous investor, I'm only coming in if I have an incredible appetite for risk and can tether the success of my investment to BDC's non-LIV ventures.

Until the day I die I will always believe LIV would have succeeded if they had simply held $30M purse, individual stroke play tournaments in PGAT off weeks (January golf at Royal Melboure, anyone?), and kept steadily growing their brand from there until the PGAT was forced to merge. The egos of Phil, Norman, and Yasir forced them into a fight they couldn't win because the product itself (team golf, shotgun starts, music blaring, three rounds, no meritocracy, players in shorts, etc.) was terrible.

I guess the most likely scenario is Rahm plays the entire 2027 season on the DP World Tour. That seems like a good compromise for Rahm and the DPWT who has been a great partner to the PGAT through this storm. At any point the DPWT could have sold out to PIF and completely changed the future trajectory of the sport.

ETA: And just like that...

Spieth ended up making par here and is currently T3, but is his current form the lowest point of his career thus far? Feels like he's never going to win again.

Playing two of the three legs of your Playoffs in Memphis and Atlanta in August remains the one of the dumbest things the PGA Tour has ever done. Rickie Fowler is currently doing a walk and talk with a towel draped around his neck while holding an umbrella saying he'd rather be at the pool. The heat index is 110.

Patton Kizzire nearly killed my wife on the 1st at Quail Hollow. He didn't ask about anyone in the gallery. I've pulled against him ever since.

Unfortunately, @egr2teup drop-ins are becoming more and more rare. I'm hoping he's healthy and doing well, and this is just a byproduct of a ZZL that has virtually no board traffic.
Doing well, hope you are, too.

I'm bummed about the split. Neither site gets enough traffic. I'm gonna pay more attention over here especially since everyone's favorite events have started - the FedEx Cup lol

Rory says Scottie is the POY.

Fitzpatrick agrees.

Although he's only won once, Scottie has a massive lead in the FEC standings.

Thoughts?

I don't ever recall a player winning POY with only one victory but Scottie's resume' is very strong. He has been the best player.
