I wonder how much support staff exists for some of the 10 or so largest, and how much expenses eat into the displayed earnings.

Some are full on mulit-platform media organizations.

The big question is did the sponsors that supported these obscene numbers actually earn revenues to justify their outlay or was it just board room largesse for the ego.

We should start a SixPackSpeak podcast. We can just take turns ranting. Might change the world and we can get rich while we do it.
T&L... they getting that type of money? You have to be national to get anywhere near that much and well liked. I am not either and I doubt any of us on this board are both, most will be neither as well.

I knew it was lucrative but honestly had no idea

Thats the top ten. What we need to know relative to whether or not it's lucrative is the median value.

The median income from podcasting is effectively $0 per year.

That's because more than half of podcasters don't monetize at all. A 2026 survey found 61% weren't monetizing, while another study of independent podcasters found 85% earned no podcast income.

All podcasters: median ≈ $0

People employed in paid podcast jobs: median ≈ $68,000–$69,000/year in current job-posting data.

Independent creators who actually make money: incomes are generally far lower. One large U.S. podcast-sector study found 75.9% of income-earning podcasters made less than $1,000/year from podcasting.

So the answer to your query is, when we look at the entire field of podcasters, it's not a field you would want to be in if you're interested in the financial aspect.

That's not surprising. I suspect that any market with a near zero $ barrier to entry has a strong median, but if you find one, I'm in!

I knew 2 of them had podcasts, Joe Rogan and Tucker Carlson.

After that there's maybe 3 or 4 of the people I've even heard of but had no idea they had podcasts. And the rest, I've never even heard of. Who the hell wants to listen to the Kelce brothers or Amy Poehler babble on about ANYTHING?

I think Rogan still runs pretty lean compared to most. For the longest time it was basically him and a single producer churning it out. They still do very little editing.

I think he has had to add quite a bit of security as he’s gotten Uber famous lately. He also seems like he runs his comedy club very much for the benefit of his comedian friends and employees.

I know someone who works for one of those very podcasts and honestly, it's not a lot. Outside of the hosts, you need a GM, someone to handles guest relations, someone to run the equipment for the podcast, and maybe a couple more people for things like research and marketing.

Most streamers / podcasts run on very small teams.
