He has 3 quality starts since returning and one poor game. 4.5 ERA in those 4 starts.

Who are you bringing up to take the 5 spot? Mick Abel? Mercado with a 4.59 era in AAA?
I understand all teams have problems - I don't get Harper to RF with his knees while outfield talent is De La Cruz and more in the minors.

I would have liked a trade piece, even a rental for starter #5, and let Painter lick his wounds and try to find consistency in the minors for the rest of this year. At this point - Painter is a maybe he will have a good game, and the offense will overcome his lack of focus - here's hoping.
Right now they are in the playoffs, but if SD or AZ get really hot and the Phils play .500 ball, they could be out. That #5 could be the one to get them in.

What hurts is that the 2 worst teams in the NL - SF and CO - are in the same division as SD and AZ. The latter should feast on them. The Phils will need to feast on the Mets and Nats - both bad but not as bad.

SD ends with a 3 game series at AZ. That could be very crucial for the Phillies.

Just happy to see he’s building and getting better. It won’t be perfect, but we need him to keep improving and we’re seeing that. I’ll take it.
Yep. Sometimes you throw good stuff and still get beat. It's baseball. It's nice to see the metrics showing the physical improvement. Let's hope it's permanent.
