WAY back when I was a kid, we were poor. I took mayonnaise sandwiches to school for lunch. Actually they weren't bad.

Me too Sir. I ate cold soup beans for breakfast many times if I could even find those. We had nothing at all growing up. My Dad worked but had a drinking problem, my Mom was a good woman but had some issues to where she didn’t function well. They both tried hard and we lived. I am thankful…

I have so much now. I want for nothing. I just try interacting and interjecting where I can to make something good happen. Blessed by God I am…

As my Dad used to say when he was about half lit; “No brag, just fact.” Of course, I don’t need much either so…

When I got a little older, we had 2 huge gardens, so we ate what we could grow. My folks grew up in the depression and had nothing. I guess that is why dad wanted to grow so much food. He gave a lot of it away. Working the gardens took time away from baseball, so I hated working in them.

Thought I was the only one. It is the reason that I do not, will not, eat mayo, salad dressing, or anything resembling it ever again. Had it every day for a long time. My wife used to think I was overreacting, but I actually get nauseous if I try to eat it. Probably psychosomatic (not sure of term) or something like that. So, she now knows never to put it in anything I eat. She had tried many years ago and I always knew it. She learned from my reaction not to.

Went to GS' opening varsity soccer match last night. He's a JR. They should have a good team. Team was 16-2-4 last season as the smallest enrollment school in their ten teams conference of bigger OH schools. He didn't start but played over half the match. I thought he did pretty well as a defensive midfielder. As long he plays himself into 40-50% of game time I'll be happy. He's no star, but competent and heady (As my GS, of course he's heady. ). Oh, they won handily. Wore down a somewhat smaller school in 2H.

Yeah, I thought a psycho moniker would trigger a response. I was called that by a few posters years back during the civil war discussion. LOL, those idiots don't have a clue. I have had a couple of psych evals over the years. One when I opted for a third year as a Drill instructor (mandatory for a third year) and one a few years back urged on by the VA.

talking about psych eval. I spent about 3 months at DaNang. Our bomb dump was a bit off the main base. The marines had a bomb dump across the road from us. As an E5, I was drawing a lot of duty in charge of security on the 4 to 12 shift at the dump. Things went pretty routine till we got a new shift commander. He would come up as soon as it got dark to inspect the troops. As soon as he got there Charlie would start attacking us (in his mind anyway). He would actually see and hear things no one else could see or hear. He ordered us to return fire at an enemy we could not see.

Charlie never attacked the marine dump right across the road and the firefights ended as soon as the next shift came on to replace us. I actually told him he was crazy. He did not take that well. After it happened several nights in a row, the brass sent him home for a psych eval.

Yeah, during the Gulf war we were sitting at a firing position before the ground war started and had one SGT who was the NCOIC for the perimeter one night when he started seeing things and told the guard force to open fire but the other guys saw nothing and did not fire. He then had a howitzer round loaded and rammed with powder in the tube and tried to use a lit cigarette to ignite the powder since no primers had been issued at that time.

Needless to say, he was sent to a field hospital for an evaluation and never returned. Found out later that his wife was having an affair while he was gone and someone had sent him word so... I think that might have been his reason whether faked or it actually drove him that way.

Thank you guys for your service as it's something I could never do. Read where @berniecarbo was talking about DaNang. Dad's brought up DaNang in various conversations over the years. He was a few months from graduating from Male and dropped out to enlist in the Marines. War did a number on my Dad. Lost his older Brother over there. Got exposed to agent orange and the drinking water at Fort Bragg. He suffers from PTSD but was told the reason he doesn't get a 100% VA benefit is because he stayed married through it all. Man, our government truly, truly sucks. Veterans should be taken care of much better than they are.

Wow, I was stationed at Bragg for a couple years. 319th MI BN. While I spent four years in the Army I do not count my service as several others here. My time was during Grenada. I had easy duty in comparison. My son was in the Air National Guard but did a year in Iraq.

They sacrificed most everything. Some gave the ultimate sacrifice. Their "reward" was just a few thank yous now piss off. All the while let's fund the lazy people's lifestyle, or worse yet, give invaders the keys to the kingdom. That may sound harsh to some folks, but it's the absolute truth. I think we're living in the matrix sometimes.

A guy who served during the Korean War told me a story about when he met Esienhower. He felt guilty because he didn't actually go to Korea. Ike told him, "Son, you just go where they tell you to go and do what they tell you to do."

Yeah, I spent about six months at a radar station between Hue and Quang Tri working security. We had a guy shoot up the station one night with his M-16. He said he had been treated unfairly. He didn't hit anyone or anything important. I think he just wanted to go home.

It’s 95 degrees here in the Berg, it’s so hot it reminds me of a Fort Hood joke they would tell while we were there, it’s so hot, I saw a coyote chasing a roadrunner and they were both walking!

Yes Sir,

I lived in San Antonio seven years... It get's HOT in Texas.... Here on the eastern side of the United States when it gets hot you can fry egg's on the road, in Texas you fry steaks.... Just unreal the difference in the hot. Even Arizona has a different type hot.... (At Fort Huachuca or Fort We Got Ya... Lost my breath my first day there... Dumb dumb of me not listening...)

Yeah, saw a few crazy things over the years from people trying to get out (wrapping up in toilet paper, lighting it and jumping out a three-story billeting building) to those who were just plain crazy (stripping down naked and running through the mess hall).

Might you fine folks find it in your heart to allow an old fart thinker into your group :ROFLMAO: I'm not too old as I'm 55.5 but I got the heart of an oldie. I was born in the wrong generation. Or better yet, I don't get down with this new age way of thinking/carrying ones self. Folks can learn a TON from those like myself/yourselves. I enjoy reading yalls posts. Hope yall have a blessed day.
Welcome!

Good to see I'm not the young gun of the group now.... welcome BC.

I got back from a 2 day hike of 18 miles up in the SE KY mountains yesterday. We were blessed with the timing of the rain. It couldn't have worked out better.

Back down to the lake for more remodeling after church today.

Have a great week everyone.

Hello All,

Had to make a trip back home after dropping My Darling off at church but I am back in the parking lot drinking my cup of coffee before service.

Our outside workers is what first impressed us when we started attending this church back in 2017. They are still a blessing to behold… They were all out and about with smiles and greetings.

Embarrasses me some, I am not out helping them as I have their mindset. I try in other ways though as they inspire and I ensure they know that….

Have a Christ Blessed day….

I am thankful…

Gonna be a HOT one out today. Think I'll wait to cut my grass, err, weeds till Tuesday. Used to welcome the heat but I just can't do it anymore. I think this heat killed our pumpkin plant. It was doing so well and then looked dead in the span of hours yesterday.

Speaking of plants, this is the worst year for our garden in a very long time. This weather pattern we've been stuck in this summer as well as the insects have done a number. We've always had just a massive harvest of peppers from bells to bananas to jalapenos. No bueno this year. We'll chalk it up to the strong el nino we got going on and hope for better luck next season. Stay cool out there gents.

If not getting too personal, what part of the country do you live in? I was born and raised in Michigan until I was turning 19. Spent over 20 years in Kentucky after I got out of the Army. My youngest was born in E-Town. (Live in Northern Virginia now since 2017...) Retired here, not sure what next as of now...

Been to Texas for seven or so years, Korea for three, South Carolina for a couple... Yadda, yadda, yadda... If you ever talk to me you will instantly think I am a deep south native, my twang was gathered naturally...(I am a hood at heart.) Most of my relatives are Kentucky, Tennesee natives... My Dad and Mom's family were from the Middlesboro area... Just jabber jawing...

Drinkin g my second cup of coffee after church eating some cottage cheese and english muffins with butter and peanut butter... Yes I do...

Edit: Man that "natural" peanut butter is just goo... I like peanut butter but I think this is my last jar.. Just too messy and the other peanut butter has too many additives... Oh well, I still have My Darlings cooking to live with....

Kings eat on special occasions like I eat regularly... (Seriously My Darling is such a fine cook...)

Good morning folks. Just back from church. Before that got a long run in and did a couple loads of laundry, something I never minded but my wife hates so I have been happy to do. That and grocery shopping. Both mindless chores that give me plenty of time to think.

My son’s Hot Shot firefighting crew wrapped up three weeks up in western Montana. He says they are taking a route back to Colorado through Glacier National Park, and hope to spot some grizzlies. I suggested he buy some binoculars. During my days in Alaska that was the appropriate range to see grizzlies, at least for me.

Hope you all have a good day.

Was going to cut my grass today but since we have had no rain in a while it has not grown much. Temps have been 100 plus for weeks now. It is turning brown. I will probably wait until midweek to cut it. Possible (small percentage) chance of rain tonight and I am hoping we get it so, giving the grass a chance to grow a little more.
