Don't worry about Belem. He's kind of like the board idiot. But we like him so we let him just do all his dumb shenanigans.

Now you tell me. Some times you don't realize people are idiots until they disagree with you. When you agree most of the time, you like to think they're smart because they think like you. With regards to the DSA, I'm starting to realize there's a number of new idiots.

Good thing we're not in any danger of becoming a Socialist nation. You can save the McNamara song for someone else.

Ah, yes ... the disingenuous extremist left. Keep promoting and supporting socialism and communism. Then claim your views aren't a big deal, and don't need to be worried about ... as you work to make them a bigger deal and, when you reach critical mass, take power and tell the moderates to eff all the way off because you're in control now.

Now back to endless promotion of DSA, as the folks supporting DSA say that DSA is no big whoop while saying the non-extremists haven't done anything for the country, keep losing, and the only solution is leftist extremists.

That's not even close to what I said. You being afraid the policies of a fairly unpopular and small group of people will catch fire does not mean I am stuck in a false dichotomy. I simply think you and everyone else acting like these handful of candidates with dsa by their names are a Trojan horse are making a mountain out of a molehill and it's leading to smart peopke saying dumb things like, They Have To Disavow These People!, when they don't even live in the same state or district as the candidates.

It comes across as panicky, shallow and reactionary considering the state of national politics.

Before you know it, "smart" people, and non-smart people alike will be trying to excuse away their promotion of extremist ideals, and the abandonment of moderation, by making nationwide promotions, but then saying it doesn't matter, because they aren't even in the same state or district as the candidates. Because the disease doesn't spread across states or districts. It's a special thought virus. The vaccine is invisible governmental boundaries.

I'm not a f@cking socialist you cold war McCarthyite.

What the hell happened to you? Hasn't there been enough f@cking death, distruction and character assassination around this garbage in the past for you to question it's validity?

I also dont run the DNC or have the ability to vote for Chuck Schumer for anything? WTF?

"I'm not a socialist you bleepity bleep! Now, vote for socialists! The alternative is crap! But don't call me a socialist! Go socialism!"

We can see that MAGAtdom and DSAdom (LeftOverMAGAt) were twins in the womb ... hence the reason that, while both are extremists on opposite sides of the political spectrum, there was a healthy amount of crossover voting when Bernie fell in the political arena, and the Bernie Bros embraced Trump.

You keep getting 'defend' conflated with not being so scared I start freaking out about Dearborn MI. When this same group of people have hours of proof of them lying and carrying water for an authoritarian, I'll have joined you in your concern. Until then, don't hold your breath waiting to see me roundly and impotently denounce political candidates and threaten to vote third party in a race not yet decided.

This is all so familiar it's comical. I have never voted for a socialist or even been interested in standing with the tumbleweeds at the Johnson County Communist booth at the local farmers market. Yet, for my entire adult life I have had socialism and communism tossed at me as an insult or an attempt to scare me away from speaking about politics.

It doesn't work because it's hallow and devoid of historical context.
I assure you my intention is not to scare you or demean you (even if I demean the DSA people proposing this insanity). And I apologize if it came across as a direct attack on you. That is not my intention. I am simply stating my beliefs about this trend of the Dems toward actual socialism. Personally I believe you have blinders on about the risks of that to the health of our country and the health of the democratic party. That isn’t a judgement about you as a person or your beliefs. I just think because it is your tribe doing it you excuse it because they have good intentions.

But I have seen what happens when good intentioned socialism gets combined with power. The results are FAR worse than what we are dealing with today. That’s the main point.

Now on the flip side over the last few days posters have called me ”stupid”, “clown”, “comical”, “scared” and the like. You have done some of that yourself. Would you expect me to roll over? That’s not my style when I have the full weight of history in my side of the argument. So I will simply say sorry if I offended you, I think highly of you in general and I hope this all works out for the best for the country even if I strongly disagree with the Dems giving the DSA even a little shade under their tent.

More free stuff that costs $3.6 million. Cool cool.

Let’s break this down from a fundamental standpoint kids and coaches:

HUGE: Seattle will provide free meals to all public school students, starting this fall. This week the city council unanimously approved $3.6 million to offer universal school meals.

So where does the free $3.6 milly come from you might ask? As you can see kids, this isn’t really “free”.

I don't think any of us have a problem with you being strongly opposed to DSA candidates. My issue with some of the posters in this thread is refusing to consider voting for other more moderate Democratic candidates. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Vote for the candidates that address the issues you find important.

Yes it is extreme and don't sell yourself short, I'm guessing you're anti-Semitic as well. It seems that DSA isn't so fringe as some people like to think.

@dpic73 Take a look at the last couple of posts from TC_Nole. That's a poster that's trying legitimize the DSA. I know you might want to believe the DSA is fringe, but I believe you'll find that's it's bigger than you think. Do you remember when posters like riveting were posting about how the good of trump out weighed the bad. Well that's what TC_Nole is trying to do. What happened on the right with trump is now happening on the left. Are you anti-Zionist, I'm guessing you're not, but maybe I'm wrong. I happen to believe you care about our country and our allies.
I just clearly stated im not Anti-Semitic.
People cobble Zionism and being Semitic together, because they are Zionists. Which you obviously are.
Zionism is a Jewish NATIONALIST movement. Im not cool with that for my reasons, which has nothing against the religion or race of the Jewish people. I want the Jewish people to have the freedom and peace all of us deserve. It has everything to do with coupling a religion with statehood. I think its a bad thing because it allows religious fanatics to seize control of the power of the state and punish OTHERS who aren't their religion.
For example committing a genocide against a people. You can read up on a recent example in Gaza if you like.

The next socialist to successfully lead a country will be the first. There are ZERO successful socialist countries in the history of the world.
Because of Britain and the USA.
Just look at the history of Iran.
Capitalist countries INVADE socialist ones and destroy them because they want their resources for their capitalism.

So, when maga started Project 2025, they used a plethora of right wing thinktanks to write out a plan, dumped billions of monies into the GOP, captured all three branches of government and went into absolute lockstep. That and the maga movement is backed by tons of dark money, oligarchs, traditional media, social media companies, AI/tech companies, crypto companies, predictive market gambling companies etc. etc.

Democrats on the other hand are never in lock step. DSA is backed by members of 90-120k people and raised 5-7 million in 2025. There are probably close to no federal judges that would cosign on the DSA's more extreme stances. They would likely fight them every step of the way.

Establishment democrats, Southern Democrats, wall street democrats, and neoliberals would not vote with DSA policy. Even in years where democrats have captured all the branches, they were unable to really pass any progressive legislation. Progressives only have alternative media and no major networks as well as no social media ownership.

We aren't seeing a slippery slope in the making, we are seeing a reaction to the far-right movement, and that is trending more progressive because the Democratic establishment has been around for this entire fall into fascism, yet, they have failed to slow it. In some cases, they have even assisted.

We are going to need someone outside the typical Democrat build. We need something like a mixture of both Roosevelts, and if we don't obtain change politicians then Republicans will just go back to brute forcing the end of our current form of government. I really don't see the couple dozen progressives that haven't typically ran on DSA policy but have failed to disavow DSA being an issue anywhere close to real threats.

The Jews were forced to create Israel because they had been kicked out of most countries or killed. What do you think will happen to the Jews if Israel is eliminated. Do you really think they'd live in freedom and peace. Everyone knows there would be another extermination. And what about those people in Gaza, you don't think they're religious fanatics? Would you be excepting of them coming to the U.S.? Would you be ok with their hatred of Christians? Israel exists to protect the Jews. You remove it and they're dead, and they'd be killed by the very people you're supporting. Yes, you are anti-Semitic, you just won't admit it.

No I'm not anti-zionist but I'm absolutely anti-West Bank zionism but besides that, I believe Israel has a right to exist, though I abhor Israel's current leadership and believe they need to be impeached.

I'll be honest because I don't think I fully understand DSA and it's supporters - I see most of the ones on here advocating for social programs that help the lower and middle class, which I have no problem with. I don't see them advocating for no police, no prisons, no borders, no president, etc...but because that is part of the DSA platform, I'd like to see the DSA supporters explain if they are in favor of those policies too. If not, they should say so because at this point, you can't separate them from the entire platform, which is way too extreme for 98% of Americans, I would think.

If it's just the social programs that benefit the working class they're in favor of, they should call it something else and disavow the DSA because they will get smeared by that lunacy if they can't separate from their platform. And honestly, we all know socialism is a scare word that won't be helpful to the cause so I'd try to find a better term that fits. I can love the goals but hate losing elections because the majority of Americans don't understand what's really behind the label.

So, DSA is nothing, but it's the only thing that can save us from fascist MAGA, so we need to make it something, or we're doomed. That's your story and you're sticking to it.

Or, and I'm just spitballing here ... Dems were able to win the Presidency with a Weekend at Bernie's candidate, just by preaching a return to normalcy. That's how desperately America wanted to embrace moderation ... they barely cared who it was, just as long as it wasn't The Fuhrer. And they almost pulled it off again, when they had to switch out their walking dead candidate for another option last minute. Of course, we've covered the issues that progressives have with women and black folks, so that particular candidate was pretty much a non-starter, but, the salient point is ...

America yearns for normalcy. The extremists, on both sides, keep pulling them away from it, and blaming each other, and the "normies." You put a moderate, milquetoast Dem candidate in there (or a Republican equivalent), and they win this thing walking away. And that'll be despite the lack of support from the extremist left, trying to destroy the American governmental structure, and way of life, just as much as the extremist right has done, to date. And if you happen to find an inspired/inspiring moderate candidate ... it'll be a curbstomping of the opposition.

You can try to justify it all you want, but in the end, you're voting for Socialism. You claim you want someone outside the typical Democrat, so you are wanting the DSA to be prominent. For some reason you think you'll be able to create an environment where you can control the DSA. That's so foolish, you don't even know it but the DSA is already controlling you. Just look at these posts, you're already defending them. Once the DSA get a hold on the Democratic party, they won't let go and you won't be able to do anything to stop them. That's exactly what trump and MAGA did, and I can bet the DSA is a lot smarter and than trump and MAGA.

YES.
Just so im clear, you don't think the 1953 coup in Iran ended a socialist movement there?

Wait I should back up here. The claim :"There are ZERO successful socialist countries in the history of the world."
Is provably false.
After Britains colonialism of India, they declared their independence as a free SOCIALIST country.
Today they still have that in their constitution and also participate in the market based capitalist system as teh 4th largest economy in the world.

I think Hawkeyetraveler addressed the entirety of the situation when he said "HISTORY OF THE WORLD"..

Its like you cannot acknowledge it takes one bad actor within socialism to **** EVERYONE and in every example over time there has been someone trying to cheat it. Here is another thing socialist dont like acknowledging. ( admittedly im hop'd up on WW2 w/T Hanks)
When socialism is your form of government the government feels as though you are responsible to it since they take care of you and they have ZERO problem putting citizens under immense strain because hey.... you need the government so you have to help us out....... and they ended up killing millions of their own.

I'm not saying I don't understand the anger and the desire to have something the opposite of Trumpism because I do and I approve of some of the goals, but if the goal is to completely upend all the pillars of our country, that's a different animal.

I also understand the hatred that many of our young people have for Israel and if all I knew about the country is what's happened over the last few years, I'd hate them too, but when the Intifada happened, I wanted to understand it so I took the time to do a deep dive into their 3000 years of history and came away very sympathetic to their cause. However, they need to course correct as soon as possible before they lose the support of people like me too. They've gone way, way too far for my comfort.

I totally agree. A few months ago I didn't know anything about the DSA and so at the time it didn't really matter to me. But as I've learned more, it's a major concern. As I mentioned in another post, the DSA won't allow any members who aren't Anti-Zionist. So people like you and me, we're not allowed in their organization. Why would anyone vote for an organization that won't allow the person in.

That’s isn’t a judgement about you as a person or your beliefs.

Im not offended, I'm disagreeing with you about the severity of the threat you and many others keep hammering on about while also trying very hard to draw parallels to an authoritarian movement currently in power.

The snark comes after the same message is tossed out over and over....for decades.

I mean, I really don't care if they wouldn't allow me into their organization because I don't like to be labeled as anything to be honest. I know what policies I like and that may or may not fit perfectly into any platform.

But the reason me and others took issue with your hard stance is because you've made it clear you wouldn't even vote for anyone who didn't disavow them outright and I don't think that's worse than maga, I just don't. Many politicians will not want to give them any oxygen for one and I think it's way too soon to be overly-alarmed. Their spokespeople are sh*t and we just saw their candidate in WI get beat after she had a 20 point lead in polling after the voters took a hard look at the DSA platform so I trust that voters will never support the extremes found on their website.

Nothing is worse than maga in my opinion and obliterating that movement should be the number one focus before we worry about anything else.

I don't think any of us have a problem with you being strongly opposed to DSA candidates. My issue with some of the posters in this thread is refusing to consider voting for other more moderate Democratic candidates. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Vote for the candidates that address the issues you find important.

It would also be usful for everyone to drop the whole protest vote act. It doesn't work.

I feel that if I'm going to be critical of Republicans who don't voice their opinion against trump, then I should do the same with Democrats. Sometimes saying nothing becomes an enabler. We've surely seen that with trump and we will see that with the DSA.

Trump has been elected twice and has a large entrenched base and his movement has done real, actual damage. The DSA is a fringe movement so extreme that it will flame out on it's own so if we refuse to vote for the candidate who doesn't loudly disavow them, it's the same as adding a vote to the next maga candidate. First things first, forest for the trees and all that.
