Interesting color. I knew it wouldn't be a spot on match for garnet, but I thought it would be garnet-ish.

I can't see any logo or anything that tells me he even wore a Gamecock shirt to the presser.

it's a Carolina Band shirt provided to the band. It has "Carolina Band" over on the right of the shirt (Beamer's left).

Beamer spent time Monday speaking to the band and band members and hanging out at practice during one of their band camp practices. He always does that to thank them for their work.

My son was in the band the last few years (he graduated) and they were supplied 1 polo shirt (and other things). He took pictures last year of Beamer talking to them and sent them to me.

Beamer is catching grief for it but he has nothing to do with it. It's just a shirt Nike makes for the band.

He's trying to promote the band by wearing the shirt. He talked a bit today about spending time with them and how proud he is of all the hard work they do as they are spending all day long now out in the heat preparing for the season.

Maybe he was already looking for his next job and picked up a shirt while there.
I accepted the fact that the Nike color would not an exact match for our garnet, since that's almost impossible to accomplish.

I was not expecting flat out red, though. I hope the band shirts do not represent the shade of red for the uniforms. That would be unsightly

No, it’s not impossible to match thread color for fabric. In fact, there are “thread charts” (Madeira, for example) that match the Pantone Matching System for PMS 202. It’s puzzling why the marketing department at USC would not insist they match across the board.

I too think its easier to match colors than that. I also would want a reliable source to the band story before I bought that.

Well, from a production standpoint, it's not feasible that Nike could fabricate an identical color match for all 70+ college teams that use Nike. Doing it to scale for that many different teams would be challenging and probably not cost effective.

But surely they can get closer than that.

Did those investigating the change not ask for a POC on the color match or they just assumed. And you know what assume gets ya. 🤷‍♂️

Actually, it’s the responsibility of USC’s marketing department to ensure the color is correct regardless of the third-party supplier—it’s not only in their jurisdiction, it’s mandated at universities.

I assume you're right, but even though there's an official PMS color, I'm sure if you took everything produced by/for the University and put them side-by-side you'd see many of the colors don't match perfectly. This isn't a USC issue, it's every school. I've seen various shades of orange for UT.
That said, the color in the shirt Beamer is wearing is egregiously off. It's not anywhere near the garnet family. I don't care if it's a band shirt.

The closest thing to Gamecock garnet in that picture is the bird on the podium.

You are exactly right! My thought, too, as I looked at the picture.

And I get it. It’s very difficult to ensure color correctness on different materials and with various applications. There’s pre-mixed inks, CMYK builds, digital print, fabric, thermal, screen printing techniques, etc. If a marketing department doesn’t have good control over all purchases, it’s easy for the brand to suffer.

Some are saying the stripe in the shirt is the garnet component. I've seen a close-up of the video and that may be the case. It's hard to tell b/c it's washed out by the red of the shirt.

Even so, where does the main red color of the shirt come from? That's nowhere in our color scheme.

If you look closely, the Gamecock in the logo looks to be closer to Garnet. It's not that big of a deal though. These are the Nike Uniforms that have been unveiled.

What do we care about the most, wins or apparel? I thought everyone was concern about wins, l don't care if he wears bright red as long as he wins. Nobody was talking about the color of his shirt last year, when people wanted him fired. Come on People we are finding something to complain about before the season even begins. Let's be joyful about the beginning of college football is about here. I am ecstatic, I can't wait for it kick off, l need some football to make me happy for sports on Saturday and not mowing the grass every weekend.

So Nike has no responsibility! Their salesman/contract negotiator deserves a bonus.

When the season starts, you'll get your wish. Until then, this is just filler till the season starts.

It happens every dead period.

I generally avoid uniform discussion stuff since I don't really care about it. However, there was so much fuss over us switching to Nike and this color is so wildly off.

I think some of this is the fabric and lighting making it look brighter than it actually is. I saw the new Nike jerseys in person and they look fine. Not as dark as UA, but not Alabama-ish, imo.

We’ve come out puhlenty of games where the online community was gaga over the uniforms and we got smoked anyway. Dead period, new vendor, but as can be seen from the headline the primary thing is the passive- aggressive chance to get in more shots at Beamer.

Having said that, I like adcoop’s photos.

Other than noting the obvious fact that Beamer is the one wearing the shirt, what are the shots anyone has taken? Nobody suggested he designed and fabricated the shirt.

It's pretty obviously a Nike discussion for all involved here. Other than the title of the thread, Beamer has barely even mentioned.

Hopefully. If they can make the jersey fine, thsy should be able to make the coach's shirt.

I think of this differently than some. They have an entire section of their company that mixes colors. They do this for a living. They should not be getting it "wrong".

Or Beamer was just the one photo'd. I dont see this as an attack on him at all.

Heck, if anyone wants to do that, there are WAY bigger targets than shirt color.

As evidenced by this photo, it is hard to get the garnet colors to match exactly, even when we're painting our own stadium. The paint color doesn't match the Gamecock logo color. BUT it's still garnet and NOT UGA red.

I dont know if its been mentioned before, but Under Armor had this same problem before the 2007 season started and they eventually got it fixed.

I was wondering how long it would take for the guy trying to appear gung-ho to say "I don't care what we wear as long as we win!" Well, please meet Mr. @gamecockcleo !

Our garnet color is as important to the school's athletic identity as the all-important Block C. We have to get this right.
