An exclusive story tonight by Dan Lamothe, John Hudson, Andrew Ba Tran, and Joyce Sohyun Lee in the Washington Post revealed the utter cowardice behind Trump’s authoritarian aspirations.
Leaving Türkiye on July 8 after the NATO summit, the day after he had renewed strikes on Iran, Trump made a show of switching from the newly outfitted plane given to the U.S. by Qatar to an older plane that had served as Air Force One before Trump got the Qatari jet. The journalists who were traveling with the president and some of the White House staff moved with the president to the older plane for the leg of the trip that would take them to Britain.
But the journalists report that Trump and some of his aides secretly left the older plane in a container lowered into an airport catering truck and were transferred to a smaller plane for the trip. There had apparently been credible Iranian threats against Trump’s life, and so officials turned to a plan to hide him, even from senior U.S. officials. To do so, they left the journalists and staff on the plane that would use the Air Force One call sign, turning them into a decoy for an Iranian strike. White House staffers instructed journalists to lower their shades when they entered the plane.
Trump secretly reboarded the bigger plane in Britain and was filmed coming down its stairs, suggesting he had been on the flight. Then he boarded the Qatari jet, along with the press pool and the staffers who had been on Air Force One, for the trip from Türkiye. On the flight, Trump briefly spoke to reporters, who asked why they had been asked to lower their window shades on the previous flight.
It was “because you’re probably on a dangerous flight because of the sleaze bags that we have to deal with,” Trump said. He added that there are threats against his life “all the time” and that “I’m number one on their list, before you. But if I go, you go. Right?” “Perhaps someday you want to change professions.”
Bluesky national security commenter Angry Staffer wrote: “So, I completely understand secreting POTUS away from a credible assassination attempt. But leaving the entire Air Force One crew, press pool, etc. to play decoy is some sick sh*t.”

It’s almost like he doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
Certainly not the staffers and journalists who were left to fly on AF1 with the supposedly credible threat to them. I wonder who Dementia Donald left on the plane? Marco? Melania wasn't on the trip, but I assume she would have been left on AF1. Natalie Harp or Karoline Leavitt? They'd gladly die for Trump.

You need proof?
I saw it at a MAGA rally.

Two birds with one stone?

Seriously though...trying a little too hard on this one. I'm sure these are not calls he's making.
In an easy way, then, explain how one takes a $400M bribe jet without all bells and whistles to a neighbor of Iran. And with the goal of just showing it off and larping as some kind of big deal.

Then explain the subterfuge to switch to a more secure aircraft while leaving members of his own cabinet and the press in the dark - and frankly as bait.

I’ll be eagerly awaiting this easy explanation that makes the president look awesome.

Neither awesome nor in-awesome. These sorts of calls are security related, and made by people with something of a paranoid streak whose job 1 is protecting the president.

I mean: it also makes the president look grossly incompetent.

But keep your narrative as it keeps you warm at night.
Narrative? This is neither a story of "great intelligence work pulls one over on the iranians" nor "gross incompetence suggested by president hiding in beverage cart". it's neither here nor there, but either way, probably not worthy of the lead story at the top of the hour radio broadcasts on my drive in to DC this morning. I'd have probably saved that for the 'man on the street' interviews with the 80 year olds who've been banging pots and pans every night at 7 to protest "occupy DC". (Seriously, that's a thing, and was also covered. 80 year olds. With pots and pans. For a year.)

You truly are living in a very special bubble.

It’s a lead story because Trump used a bribe jet to demonstrate how powerful he is. It’s a lead story because anyone with basic knowledge of security measures knew the plane was ill-equipped. It’s a lead story because Trump got played by Israel to start a war with Iran that he can’t get out of. It’s a lead story of incompetence because the plane was a security risk before it even left JBA for Ankara - and yet Trump took his new shiny thing out for a test drive.

But please tell me how someone practicing their first amendment rights is the cutesy story you want to focus on.

That’s a lot of words to avoid saying he used staffers and journalists as bait. He’s the alpha decider, don’t you know.
If there was this credible threat, then why not do the moral thing and protect the people sent off on AF1?

IT's clear the WH is freaking out over this incident. It shatters the all powerful, alpha image Trump has so vigorously worked at crafting for the last 50 years
Also, it's kind of hard to keep screaming about how Iran is beaten if you are cowering in fear of assassination attempts by Iran.

Iran is not going to assassinate Trump. He’s their greatest ally at the moment.
Yep... What they REALLY want is to get Trump face to face. THEN Iran offers him say half a billion a year under the table to let them administer the Straites. He'd take that in a heartbeat and then declare victory and pull all US forces out of the Middle East.

Keep in mind, Trump was in a NATO country when this happened. Probably the most autocratic one now that Hungary is under new leadership. Security shouldn't have been that big of a deal. On top of that you have considerable US forces in the area, including 20+ F-16s stationed a few hundred miles away in Italy. They could have extracted Trump in other ways if the threat was credible.
The video is now circulating of Trump talking to the press gaggle after they got to England, and were on the way back to the US where he was questioned about it, and said he's always a target, and said, "If I go, you go", meaning they are all in it together. Except, they weren't. Trump took another plane to England and left the press with the target on their backs.
