Graves is eligible to come back. We just have to outbid the Ravens. 800k I believe
Way too much conjecture, not nearly enough tidbits in this thread so far.
Cooney as well.Hoping for good things from Buffington, Weiskopf, and Gautcher.
If that screen pass against Indy goes for a first down then Iowa could run more plays, maybe move the ball to a shorter FG try and IU had no timeouts left. It would have been a walk off winner at a 90% probabilitylprobably true, but would it not have made more sense for the receiver to stop inside the 1-yard line and burn more clock? Otherwise Indiana has 2 minutes left to march down& tie the score and win in overtime. I am not sure that in the heat of battle the receiver could think thta fast, though.
And Ries.Hoping for good things from Buffington, Weiskopf, and Gautcher.
Takes me back to the home PSU game where Wadley scored with around 2:00 left but gave PSU too much time and they won at end with that pass that just made it over Hooker's hand. I remember posters saying Wadley should've went out of bounds etc yet that's a tough call and piece of execution in the moment.probably true, but would it not have made more sense for the receiver to stop inside the 1-yard line and burn more clock? Probably throw Ries in there on that one, but that is a group I have total confidence in.Hoping for good things from Buffington, Weiskopf, and Gautcher.
Too early. It’s early August.Way too much conjecture, not nearly enough tidbits in this thread so far.
Back 7 will def have to carry the DL as it gets their rotation down. I'm not as worried at QB as we have more weapons this year and a strong running game and OL thus Heck or Brown won't have to carry the load like Grono did. Special teams are a worry as well, hopefully work out the kinks by Game 4 at Mich.
I do really like the new approach of targeting guys that have had success at lower levels with multiple years of eligibility, but I do wonder if the money was allocated elsewhere, so their hand was forced. Certainly, Diaz cost the hawks a serious amount of cash, not to mention returning players. Not worried about the offense at all even qb. They would have portaled a qb but they like both those guys.
I'm still worried about the quarterback position and whether it was a good idea to NOT bring in a lower-level success story as we did with MG.Yep, I love our secondary the lb's will be good the talent there is too good to fail.
I'm worried about the dt's not so much the de's. Iose will be special by the Michigan game and look out for Campbell and Kahmari Brown.

ST's has me worried for the obvious reasons but especially the kickers.

So....Fingers crossed Lester is the real deal - Year 3 is enough time to expect a coach to have things pretty squared away.
Crazy that this is all Iowa has needed for several years and has consistently failed.Just make the makeables.
Exactly. Handing the ball off is very makeableJust make the makeables.

And Lester has shown that he will mix it up and pass on first down. If your passing game is efficient in competion percentage, especially on first down, then it makes sense to keep the defense off balance.A strong run game is a qb's best friend. Play action pass opportunities will be there.
Just think the last time Iowa had a dangerous passing attack to go with a decent run game was probably 2015. Seem to remember having a decent season that year. And Lester has shown that he will mix it up and pass on first down. The hawks had both of those items in 2016, CJB to Vandeberg, McCarron, maybe Tavon was back, great TEnds and we had a good to very good running gameJust think the last time Iowa had a dangerous passing attack to go with a decent run game was probably 2015. 2016 was one of the worst offenses ever prior to the 21-23 debacle. The hawks had both of those items in 2016, CJB to Vandeberg, McCarron, maybe Tavon was back, great TEnds and we had a good to very good running game
They scored a lot of points in their wins and got smoked by 3 really good opponents.2016 was one of the worst offenses ever prior to the 21-23 debacle.
The only thing "controversial" was being in a position to lose to an FCS team at home. Same thing losing to NIU in 2013 and Western Michigan earlier. They scored a lot of points in their wins and got smoked by 3 really good opponents.
Of course you probably do not remember the controversy at the end of the N Dakota State game? That weird ending kept them from 9-4 record. The loss at home to only a average if that jNW team was inexplicable and probably inexcusable and it was the defense that had a bad game.
Seems like the offensive line was not very good or had injuries? The hawks had both of those items in 2016, CJB to Vandeberg, McCarron, maybe Tavon was back, great TEnds and we had a good to very good running game
I believe we have our starting line then.News from practice is Cael Winter is taking snaps at C with Pieper back at RG.
a part of me hopes you are right. It sounds like a pretty solid group, at least based on what I am hearing on this forum. Two returning starters, two guys that seem to get good reviews (Jones and Dotzler) and Winter. I really do not know much about Winter. I presume he has played center all along, not another "convert." At any rate, we should have a minimum of two returners in 2027, Winter and Jones, if this is correct.I believe we have our starting line then.
Lauck
Jones
Winter
Pieper
Dotzler
From what I can tell listening to the beat guys podcasts nobody knew anything about him until Kirk mentioned him at B1G media day. He is a former walk on that has taken a rocket ship up the depth chart apparently.a part of me hopes you are right. So he’s a Rocket Surgeon! Love that! Noiiiiice. From what I can tell listening to the beat guys podcasts nobody knew anything about him until Kirk mentioned him at B1G media day. He is a former walk on that has taken a rocket ship up the depth chart apparently.
I think that’s Winter getting pancaked by Hawthorne in the video you posted .News from practice is Cael Winter is taking snaps at C with Pieper back at RG.
Are we under the roster cap?Graves is eligible to come back. We just have to outbid the Ravens. 800k I believe
It sure is, guess we will find out what the actual line up is this weekend.I think that’s Winter getting pancaked by Hawthorne in the video you posted .
