Torres: Calipari will land the #1 recruiting class again in 2027.

Dude you and I I’m not gonna cast aspersions on you but you and I we did not want cal any longer. This is basically you I and most of big blue nation. And Barney blew it with his hire. That’s ultimately the problem. It’s not that we let cal go it’s that we replaced him with a coach far worse than him.

You don’t fire the man unless you’re gonna upgrade considerably. Mark Pope was the worst hire in athletics and sports in the last 10 years based on what Kentucky moved out to bring in. And the fact that we had a lame duck, corrupt athletic director who just wouldn’t leave hopefully this new athletic director will be quick on the trigger to get his guys in there especially the Basketball program.

And honestly Mark Pope. He needs to just step down if it’s a difficult season and somehow we get to a sweet 16 he needs to just step down.. because what makes getting rid of a cal stupid is replacing him with a guy who brought vibes from a period of time. That’s all he’s all his résumé was. I mean, Pope could have a decent season I want I’m gone.. he has an awful personality. He just not a good fit for big blue nation. He comes across his extremely desperate. And amongst other Blue Bloods were kind of laughing sock right now because of this guy so even in the SEC laughing stock because of Pope, I mean if cal was still the coach respect, we would be getting respect. I say there’s more to it than what Pope brings to the table
UK should have let the man finish out here. I'd rather be a Sweet Sixteen team with future NBA All-Stars and a real chance at a Final Four than a Sweet Sixteen team with a guy who has never won more than 75% of his games in a single season.

calipari couldn’t sign anyone here. Mitch and his administration would not help raise money. The coaches had to do it on their own. Cal complained publicly about it and he and Mitch barely spoke after that. This got absolutely no coverage by our Media. His last class here he took everyone we had signed and we had returning. That was his first class ever without a draft pick. They barely made the tournament. His first class at Arkansas produced the SEC and National freshman of the year. Two first rounders. His second class is even better but our fans dismiss all that evidence and believe we have no problem here. Mitch was a disaster when it came to anything to do with paying players

is there a paid feature to block Calipari posts?

Once again, Cal was not fired or "not allowed to finish". Mitch had already begun his "one more year" convince the fans that next time will be different tour when he got cucked for the 100th time. Cal chose to leave because the Crafts were withholding most of their money due to their conflict and because he wasn't allowed to hire Brad as an assistant. He almost left in the middle of the season to Ohio State before they decided to roll with their guy. He had a contract and he was expected back. What else did you want, another raise and extension? Fans be forced to pretend he wasn't floundering?

Cal may have one more run left in him, maybe not. But he seems to have lost his fastball and that's hard to debate. He definitely didn't have his stuff at UK anymore

Aaron Torres? The man who has social media pages for 25 different teams? Cmon SOS. Thought you were better than this,
Right, the guy is a bit of a cornball - not even sure what his niche is. Screaming at you, taking old info and restating it.
I was done with Cal finally after the Auburn Elite 8 debacle. He was mailing it in, he cared more about his personal image and putting guys in the NBA than achieving Kentucky's objectives.

Quit hanging on to the past and him. It's nonsense.

I'm not a Pope pumper either. He needs to get his act together. The fans who are incessantly preaching caution and patience with him refuse to acknowledge his results at BYzu and UVSU. They are the same middling results he's put up here.

This job should take a great coach and put them over the top. There's literally nothing standing in your way from a support standpoint when you coach at Kentucky.

If you can't win here, and win big, the problem is absolutely you.

Finishing 6th and 9th in the SEC is flat out unacceptable. Especially when you had the (reportedly) largest recruiting budget in the nation.

I like Pope as a guy infinitely more than Cal. Pope is our guy. He's one of us. But that doesn't excuse him from being accountable for producing.

And before some knucklehead chimes in with "he needs time....."

....bullshīt. You can openly buy your roster. And we are willing to spend more money than pretty much anyone to do it. $$ doesn't guarantee you're going to win the natty every year, but it sure as hell should guarantee a roster capable of producing and winning bigger than we have so far. Period
With Cal, you have to take the good with the bad. There is his hunky dory approach with recruiting top 15 kids, he has a template for and is a natural bullshitter. It has significant pluses - you will have a factory of NBA alum you can pride your program on, and further sell recruits on. He will always have young, exciting talent that may or may not hit.

The downside - he doesn't coach worth a damn, weak team defense, little structure to offense. Not a ton of discipline - I've seen him run practices, it's a bunch of pickup with his cliche's to the side. He relies heavily on talent. He's not really building culture, he's transacting talent.

Again, I look at it versus a program like UConn, which seems a bit militant to be honest, but Hurley is drilling those kids, is always recruiting so he has 3-4 kids rolling over with the program annually to serve as example. With Cal, if you're not in the NBA by year 3, you're washed up.

4 ball boys? Travieso and Padilla were very good college guards, and Bright and Dingle were highly regarded recruits. But even so, Cal only got us in the early season. He didn’t get us when it mattered. With one exception in 35 years of coaching, Cal can’t close the deal.
Cal gets a glimpse of the finish line and pisses down his leg. He’s one of the worst closers in sports when there’s something meaningful on the line. At least he got us one. I’m grateful for that. But it was long past time for us to move on and start trying to win championships again.

The Mark Pope hire, as bad as it was, was at least an ATTEMPT.

I just hope the new AD has the balls to make a change quickly and isn’t dumb with
contracts as Barnhardt was. Barnhardt really set UK sports back.

SOS what happened to you dude? You used to be a rational poster, but the last year or two you have been completely overtaken by Pope Derangement Syndrome. I’ll never understand your dangling from Cal’s sack. The man gave up as a coach and leader of young men a long time ago. Recruiting was never his problem and still isn’t. It was everything else.
I feel the same way he hates Pope more than he'll ever love this program anymore. It was a great poster and now he's just screams in the wind with his large font.

You and others agree that we're in the worst decade, possibly in Kentucky history well who the hell do you think brought us here. Who the hell had a season with only nine wins, lost in the Attorney to a Catholic Church, and lost again to a law firm. I don't know if Pope is the answer, but he does have three tournament wins in the last two seasons what did Kalahari do The Four Seasons before that?

You are truly lost your **** man and I can honestly say as good a poster that you used to be as bad as you suck right now

Cal was getting the number one and two classes (ratings) every year at Kentucky. How did that work out for Championships? I seem to remember only one with a very special player.

He's never going to win one in the portal era. Take a look at the last few NC's.

Michigan - 5 transfer starters
Florida - 3 guards all transfers
UConn - SG & PG were transfers
UConn - PG was a transfers

You simply can't fit a roster into one category.

The problem a lot of you don't understand is, 90's-2020 Calipari is a different person that no longer exists. 2020-present Calipari is not what Kentucky needs and it was time to go. We can always drop Pope and go with someone else who is the right fit AT THE RIGHT TIME. Think of Tubby's last few years, replaced him with the drunk which was a bad hire, then we got old school Calipari. Amazing hire at the time. We may need to find our new Pitino/Calipari if Pope's tenure ends prematurely.
Gonna be tough to drop Pope with the awful contract he has especially while we’re paying off Stoops for that awful contract.

I guess.

Yet here's what I know.

Calipari has been a head coach for 34 years. Think about that.

His career winning percentage is 76%.

Pope has never had even one season where he won more than 75% of his games.

So if Calipari is worthy of mockery from your perspective, what do you do with those numbers concerning Pope?

Some of you are struggling with the reality that I'm acknowleding that Cal was doing terrible, but Pope was still a downgrade. That's the point. If Kentucky was going to downgrade, they might as well have just let Cal coach those last five or six years and then move on with his support and also the support of his NBA players.
I’ll go with the option of Cals time was up here. But, Pope was a reach hire. I’ll never believe there weren’t better candidates than a guy with a 60% winning percentage who never won a NCAA tournament game.

Posters in this thread are saying openly that Pope was not a satisfactory hire in response to the situation. They acknowledge that fact. So far, it's proven he has failed at his assignment. Barney is at fault for that.

But CCC needed to be gone in the worst way, even before he actually left, in my opinion.

It's not that the fans here are saying they disagree with that.

What people are disagreeing with, basically - is saying we should have kept CCC around instead of Mark Pope .... just to get to a sweet sixteen and have it end there??? What does that matter ? seriously ?

That's what the original point was.

Let that sink in..... "would rather have had CCC making SS's here instead of Pope (making sweet 16's) .... ???"

Maybe the problem here is looking at sweet 16 level success isn't satisfactory here. We should do much better. Demand better. Cal eventually wasn't even able to get his talent that far when he was here.

CCC didn't make sweet sixteen's when he had said vastly superior talent, got shown the door by teams far below the talent level he had and other coaches outcoached him in front of the world to see.

No, Pope has not been the answer for us. CCC needed to be gone. But saying you'd rather trade Cal for Pope just to even get to a sweet sixteen?

that is unfathomable to even think.

Move forward and put this endless discussion about what if's where CCC is concerned to bed. He's gone, good riddance.

Unless Pope somehow pulls a miracle turnaround to his time here at Kentucky, he won't be here much longer. Then we will get a new coach to treat with. But looking back and pining for CCC is a fool's errand.

My suggestion is let go of Cal and embrace a better future without him. And if Pope doesn't get it done (and he hasn't so far) then we need to make the best hire to replace him.

Thankfully, Barney is out of that process now.

This thread is not CCC love, it's 100% Pope-hate. He's using Cal to take a dump on Pope. He does it at least once a week with a new thread about CCC vs Pope. He LOVES to say "I told you so" as he and Richie went berzerk when he was hired, were trying to contact Mitch to the point there insanity had to be deleted, etc. But make no mistake, Richie wasn't going to call Mitch. He lives to stir chaos up (admitted he goes to other teams boards to do it after they lose, etc)

Selfish and self-serving on both of their parts? You betcha. Trash posts that don't deserve the attention they seek? Absolutely. But neither of them will ever stop as they get pleasure from garbage behavior.

I don’t understand the constant Cal talk. He’s gone. He coaches a rival. He’s the same as Rick Barnes, Pat Kelsey etc. No sense in even discussing him any longer unless we’re playing Arkansas.

It’s simple. He’s using Cal to make Pope look as bad as possible because he knows most of BBN was sick of Cal. Saul was the sickest of Cal. He obsessed about his hatred of him as well. Look at his old posts and you’ll see its nothing but insanity and non-stop whining like he’s owed something.

He recently said that troll threads should be ignored so they fall to the bottom of the page. This is his weekly troll thread, so he’s FOS and is doing the very same thing here instead of practicing what he preaches. smh

I didn’t hate Cal back then and thought people were being dramatic about Cal. Was I frustrated about his lack of postseason success by the end? Yes. Did I disagree with his views on roster construction? Yes I did. But he was a Hall of Fame coach and many of our fans just assumed you go to the dollar aisle and find an upgrade. Who could have expected that running off a HOF coach who stood on the sidelines in six Final Fours, three national championship games and won our only national title in the last 28 years and running was a bit of a bad idea?

Let's see if you can respond without ad hominems or straw manning my intent. Debate the point I made, which for you should be simple. I would bet Oats is the next coach at Kentucky if Pope hasn’t proven to be a game changer in two years.

…and that’s all because of Batt.
He's the one proven. High D1 guy I can see working. Has enough maverick in him, stuff bounces off him, does what it takes to win.

That said, I feel like half the sketchy news in CBB the last 5 years has been Bama. I guess it's the price you pay. He's got the F4, Elite 8, S16 last year and was the first overall seed before the F4 year.

And it's not like he's doing most of it with top top talent. Has kind of groomed himself as an SEC guy, originally from Detroit. I think Hurley spotted him on the HS circuit and was impressed and then he linked up with his bro at Buffalo as an assistant.

Murders and Bediako draw concern, but then you got Golden trolling cheerleaders on IG DM, so I guess it's all good.

He is probably the guy. I'd prefer Hodgson if he works out at PC and is on the market, who assisted Oats for 4 years.

I don’t see what concern there is. He wasn’t convicted of anything. He’s eligible to coach and he’s very good at it. Never understood the reasons why people care if the coach is a good person or not. We don’t hang banners for being nice.

I just laugh when our fans complain he only won one title when we had 7 before him. It’s not easy to win it. The fans turned on him. He turned on the fans. The guy looks like he is actually enjoying coaching again.

I really question any broadcaster that says UK fans are intelligent. Even now our fans will be proud and act like they’d rather lose 14 games and needing a half court shot to beat Santa Clara while he won the sec tournament and lost to the national runner up in the sweet 16. Ironically some sound like Indiana fans in 2012. “Yeah he went farther and won the SEC tournament, but it doesn’t matter because we beat him in the regular season! Boom checkmate”

I also don’t think he was done after 2015. He knocked on the door in 2017 and 2019 of the final four. People will blame him for this tournament loss or that tournament loss. Notice they never mention beating West Virginia, Ohio State and UNC in 2011. Even the 2012 title they’ll say “he almost blew it against Kansas”. Not mentioning him beating Indiana, destroying Baylor and beating a really good UL team coached by Rick Pitino who our fans think hung the moon. 2014 wins against Wichita, UL (Pitino again 🤷🏻‍♂️), Michigan and Wisconsin? Not a peep. Beat UCLA that was final four good in 2017? Who cares, but boy they’ll sure say 2019 Auburn and how he can’t coach.

He came here in our longest final four drought went to four of those. Went to a few more Elite 8s. Won a national title. The “greatest fans” question his entire ability to coach and personally say things about his family online. It’s clear who is in the wrong in this situation. Look at this thread. You gave an opinion and are met with personal insults for discussing a sports opinion on a sports board
I can’t understand this argument anymore when UConn has won 6 since 1999 and 3 since our last

Winning more than 1 ever 15 years is possible. Even Duke and UNC are winning titles more often than we are

Two years?! TWO YEARS? TWO YEARS?!

Pope needs a final four or title this year to prove he has it ihmo
I hear what you’re saying…and if anyone but J Batt was AD I’d say it’s this year or bust and then you likely whiff on all the big names and end up going with an up and comer like Jai Lucas.

I don’t think with the personal relationship he has with Oats it works out that way. I think he’s keeping close eye on that buyout for Oats which goes down to zero after two years.

FWIW — this is not something I made up. There was a lot of chatter about this on the KSR side when Batt got the job. Let’s see how it shakes out.

I can’t understand this argument anymore when UConn has won 6 since 1999 and 3 since our last

Winning more than 1 ever 15 years is possible. Even Duke and UNC are winning titles more often than we are
UK does not have ESPN and the referees in our pocket. 2011,2014, and 2017 UK was taken out by officiating head to head to the advantage of two of these teams. In 2015 the rooferee took us out yet again and cleared the path for Puke as well.

I hate Calipari for how he quit after 2019. Looking at the UCLA, OSU, and then Arkansas job where he got his hand caught.

dude under achieved at his pinnacle and he deserves a luke warm Arkansas ending to his coaching tenure .

he “should’ve” had two more final fours with 17 and 19. Instead he looked elsewhere. He doesn’t have what it takes anymore and his team reflect that.
