You are right of course. But if the Mets DFA'd Senga today, somebody would sign him tomorrow (on the Mets' dime of course). Whenever a player who has had success is available for free, there's always a GM who thinks he can fix him.Senga has an 0-8 record and an ERA at 8.66.

Can't argue with that. I wouldn't use the word "disasters" for all, but they all have underperformed expectations. Nobody expected Stearns to go 6 for 6, but nobody expected 0 for 6 either.
For so many vets to underperform their regular numbers is pretty wild. This is certainly a drain where basically mostly everything that could go wrong has which I know no one wants to hear this, bad luck.
I do think there's a lot of lessons to be learned which in the long run could be a good thing. I also think the upcoming CBA played a big part in what was going on with the way the team was structured since there's going to be so much uncertainty after this year in regards to payroll which hurt us in some areas.

Also think lack of clubhouse leadership and canning all the coaches played a part. Team seems rudderless.

the only one that may not be a disaster is Bichette- but because of the $42 mil- that is still a disaster. And Polanco and Williams become even worse because of who we let walk to rely on these two.
I wouldn't call Robert a disaster. Of the players named, I think his expectations were lowest. We gave up nothing for him. Took a flyer that didn't work out.
Williams hasn't been a disaster either. He has been mostly good, but a few really bad outings have distorted his stats. That happens with relievers.
Agree on Williams. He has been solid in save situations. It's in non-save situations that he scuffled a few times. Just like the guy he replaced. The same guy who has missed considerable time for the 2nd in the last 3 or 4 years.
Robert Jr has a line of .195/.291/.613 4HR 2 SB all for the bargain of $20m you realize - even at the end of Nimmo's contract a few years down the road- I am almost sure Nimmo's production would be better than that at his very worst.
Williams- all for the bargain of $17 mil which he was the main reason he didnt try harder to retain Diaz- his line is 4.17/1.58/.260
It is about as deep of a reach as you can go to find a way to not call both absolute disasters. But, if you want to use the Stearns reasoning- both are younger and thy have shorter term contracts...That doesn't help the team at all when both really just suck.
The funny thing is- the nothing we gave up for Robert may be having a better season than Robert is...lol
Skubal to Dodgers. This year literally didn't matter regardless going into a prolonged lockout. MLB going to tank itself now.
You have to think that this pushes the small market teams over the edge & makes them dig in hard against the big market clubs and the players in upcoming negotiations.

The game has been in the best spot it had in years and after this the league is going to implode itself if they win again.
Funny thing is that for this year only the salary doesn't matter. Dodgers effing everyone but this isn't even a salary thing in regards to this specific trade.
They have the best farm or second best and the Ohtani deal plus the sale provision gave them such an insane advantage compared to everyone else that is really insane this ****** commish and predecessor let it happen.

I get that salary doesn’t play into this year but my guess is once he gets there and wins a ring this year he won’t leave.
Unless the new deal shuts down big market spending (which sucks for us given the only thing we have going for us is Cohen’s checkbook), they’ll throw more cash than anyone else at him and lock him up.

I wonder if the small market teams actually prefer the status quo. A salary cap will mean a salary floor. The floor figure I have seen discussed was $160M, compared to a cap of $240M. Do teams like the Marlins really want that?
I think that the Luis Castillo trade provides a benchmark for what Peralta would return. Castillo brought back the White Sox #15 prospect, an unrated prospect, and Seranthony Dominguez, who was included to help offset salary.
This- the small market owners have been making huge cash for years.

I heard things said that Detroit wanted the Yankees top prospect and two major league players including one of their starters- but then, give the guy away for a bag of balls to the Dodgers.
Hope is a huge prospect (top 30) and if Ryan were ever healthy he'd probably do well. Yanks only have Lombard and were probably hugging him.

Seriously though, Amick is WAY underrated. 23 homers in four months, and MLB Pipeline couldn't find a place for him in the Mets Top 30!
Unless of course, the Mets farm system is a whole lot stronger than we thought.
