Not protesting masks, the mandates.

You asked this in another post, but I’ll address it here. What advice did we trust? At the beginning most conservatives I know wore masks, avoided large indoor gatherings, suspended visits to elderly relatives, etc. Over time, it became clear that this trust wasn’t earned and Fauci had his own interests at heart, namely financial enrichment and covering his own ***.

What clued you in to his not deserving your trust?
Datt, are you trolling? I can't believe someone would ask such a dumb question about why so many feel the way they do about Fauci.

Good answer KD. Spot on.

Fauci is a scientist, not a politician. Working for a President like Trump, it's no wonder everything got muddled and confusing, and that y'all fell right in line when Trump turned on him.

SO President Trump goes on primetime to reveal big news that ended up being nothing in relation to the 2020 election, and now Sen Paul is going after Dr Fauci yet again.

What's next on the 2020 Revisionist Revenge Tour? Anything but the Epstein Files, a clear plan in Iran, or the economy.

You mean a once-in-a-lifetime epidemic was not immediately and accurately understood by scientists who did not have the leisure of a lengthy study? Yeah, how dare he.

Dr Fauci went with the best available information at the time. Conservatives act like it's a mortal sin to have gone with a "better safe than sorry" approach for a once-in-a-lifetime epidemic. What you claim he was "wrong" about was nothing compared to President Trump (#45) and his gaslighting.

President Trump has undermined public trust of numerous institutions. Dr Fauci is nothing more than your fall guy. He was right about much more than he was wrong.

His private diary is a nothing burger. It confirms nothing. Y'all are indeed still conspiracy theorists.

Everyone gives lip service to transparency at times. I see Dr Fauci's pleading the 5th as a refusal to participate in a bogus, grandstanding witch hunt. And between terms, our current President took the 5th more than 400 times in a single deposition, so spare me your pearl-clutching.
Most Americans will see Fauci’s invocation of the 5th as the coward’s way out, esp since he’s already been pardoned. What’s bogus about demanding accountability when his policies exacerbated the suffering of so many? His diary confirms that he went from the lab leak theory is a politically motivated hoax to “Well, it could have happened that way. I don’t have the first damn clue”. He asked us to take his word for it that the virus likely came from a wet market that just happened to be in close proximity to the Wuhan lab, which just happened to be conducting gain of function research. lol

I don't think it's embarrassing for him at all. It's embarrassing for Senator Paul. Did you hear the opening statement?

Y'all were objecting to masks by April of 2020. That was a month into it and y'all were already rebelling against the most basic, sensible recommendations Dr Fauci made. At no point did y'all follow his advice.

A career scientist was thrown into the spotlight with one of the most petulant, dishonest, grandstanding Presidents ever. President Trump undermined him at every step.

The economy and schools are not his responsibility.

What advice did conservatives ever trust?
“The schools were not his responsibility”. The schools were following CDC guidelines that he laid out. Same with states that destroyed businesses.

The only part you may have an inkling here of being right is working for Trump. I'm sure he can be tough to work for at times. However, Trump is the one that got put in a no win situation. At the onset, none of us outside of Fauci and his cronies knew the full severity of the virus. Trump's no doctor, and basically had to take the advice of a 'respected chosen one in his position.' Little did we know how much of a weasel Fauci was up until a few months later.

He outlived his true usefulness in the medical community a long time ago. Once he sold out, he became nothing more than a politician in a white coat.

And that he had a professional interest in protecting gain of research funding from being implicated in the origins of Covid. He was knee deep in a conflict of interest from the get go, and we were asked to swallow the lie that he was an impartial scientist trying to protect the public, rather than a lifelong grifter who had skin in the game.

So he was “muddled” and “ confused” but it was Trump’s fault. When you’re a leader in your field, it’s important to maintain focus. Again, with your latest version of the sheep narrative, that anyone who disagrees with you is incapable of independent thought, as opposed to people recognizing six months in that “Hey we know more about this virus than we did six months ago. Is what we’re doing worth the societal and economic cost?” Anyone questioning lockdowns and mask mandates was routinely ridiculed and even worse ‘othered’. It was a purity test.

How much evidence does the left need to hear before they say "you know what they tell us just doesn't add up?" It's not just on Covid either.

It was gracious of Trump to do so, but that was also before we knew what a lying sack Fauci was. This is conflating two different issues: Covid mandates and lockdowns as opposed to the vaccine rollout. We’ve barely mentioned the vaccine and it’s way down on the list of Fauci’s f-ups. The rollout was great, but Fauci overhyped it as preventing transmission ( false) and even worse ‘othering’ those who didn’t get jabbed.

He doesn't set policy. He's a scientist.
His diary is pretty exonerating. It reveals a pretty reasonable and appropriate scientific process as we tried to figure out what was going on in a once-in-a-lifetime epidemic.
Who cares what he thinks about where it ever came from? It was here and we needed to deal with it.

President Trump's weak response resulted in seventies and seventies of thousands more deaths than there should have been. It wasn't Dr Fauci's responsibility to see to the health of businesses. How many more would have died in the preservation of businesses? Easy to second guess and accept the scapegoat the President points to after the fact. That's on the President and his admin. We should've had UBI.

I said "everything" got muddled and confused, not "Fauci." He's not a polished podium speaker or politician. He's a scientist.

And he DID update info and change recommendations: don't mask... do mask, look for symptoms... oh, the asymptomatic are spreading it, close schools... open them as quickly and safely as possible b/c "one size does not fit all"

Who cares? How can we prevent it from happening again if we don’t know where it came from? The crisis has passed. Now’s the time to find out if there ever was one. You may not care, but the medical community sure as **** should.

The Swedish policy I’ve already linked proves this narrative has been debunked. Draconian lockdowns and mask mandates didn’t prevent deaths in the rest of Europe but delayed them. There were more deaths early on in Sweden, but it eventually was on par with the rest of Europe.

How many more would have died? None. The timing would have likely been different, but the mortality rate ultimately would have been the same.

He intentionally lied when he told Americans they shouldn’t mask because it wouldn’t help prevent transmission when it was actually due to fearing a run on N95s. So if you think masks saved lives, then he endangered the very lives you later claimed he saved.

That was early March 2020, and it was specifically to keep supplies available for frontline workers at a time when we didn't know it could spread asymptomatically. He changed his tune by April when we knew more.

He just made a lot of **** up. Let’s have everyone stay 6 feet from each other, the virus can stay a live up to 48 hours. Where your mask outside. We’re supposed to believe he had a lot of good available information to act on. You’re a smart vocabulary person, but dang you got a long way to go with common sense. Oh by the way, Biden had brain fog and that’s why they kept him hid as much as possible during his supposedly campaign and presidential term.

Man, it’s amazing how in lockstep right wing media is concerning Fauci right now. Literally wall to wall coverage. It’s almost like they’re trying to distract you from something…

Maybe the rising gas prices? The rising inflation? Trump’s loss to Iran? The Epstein files and Trump’s continued cover up? The rotting hand and doctor’s visits? The fact we’re almost completely out of interceptor missiles?

The world may never know.

I wouldn't call the Fauci news a distraction at all. This isn't someone accused of not paying taxes. The little weasel played a major part in what happened during Covid. Some of the damage done is permanent, and his decisions did a lot of damage. It doesn't matter that it was 5 years ago either.

As much as I'd love to see him pay, the million dollar question is who was telling him what to do? And there is someone he answered to.

Of course you wouldn’t call it a distraction, Mac. It gives you something else to talk about rather than the real time failures of the current president.

However, Trump disagrees with you that Fauci should ever be prosecuted. In fact, he says the president’s power to pardon is the most powerful tool a president has. It’s almost like he might be setting something up for the future, no?

Interesting take. Fauci’s pardon only covers his actions up to January 19, 2025. With that in mind, it makes perfect sense that he would plead the Fifth during his testimony. Rand Paul’s goal was, and has always been, a perjury charge with these hearings. This type of kangaroo hearing is exactly why he was issued the pardon in the first place.

Question for @Mac9192, just curious: When Donald Trump pleaded the Fifth 450 times during his criminal trial in New York, was he being a coward? Does pleading the Fifth 450 times mean he was, in fact, guilty of the felonies he was eventually convicted of?

Fauci has the constitutional right to plead the Fifth, and because of that, he won’t be held in contempt, at least legally, of course. Who knows with this administration, Congress, and the Supreme Court?

I sincerely doubt, though, that Trump will do or allow anything to be done that weakens the power of a presidential pardon since he has to pardon himself, his kids, his staff, and Ghislaine Maxwell for all of their crimes on his way out of office.

Amazing response, considering you managed to say nothing at all. Let’s try again. The questions were:

Trump disagrees with you that Fauci should ever be prosecuted. In fact, he says the president’s pardon power is one of the strongest authorities a president has. Do you think he has a reason for emphasizing that power now?

When Donald Trump pleaded the Fifth 450 times during the New York civil fraud investigation, was he being a coward? Does pleading the Fifth 450 times mean he was, in fact, guilty of the crimes alleged against him?

I don't base my views on everything Trump says, nor do I always agree with him. Haven't I been very clear on this? You might want to follow this simple advice that I try to go by when it comes to politics. I like my country, but despise the government. Say it out loud. Kid, your distaste for Trump is of a level not good for your mental health.

Have I ever defended Trump on everything? There has also been a manufactured witch hunt on the man since 2016, but you're comparing him pleading in a CIVIL investigation to Fauci about Covid?

If you were a car, you'd be leaking oil, and your lug nuts are all loose.
