Well let's see: Best years under KF: 2002, 2009, 2015. There is a common denominator between the three. Yeah, Stanzi threw picks in 2009 but he also made huge plays down the stretch to win games. Brad Banks one of the best QB seasons in Iowa history. CJB won games with his arm and feet in 2015. Is that enough correlation?
The 3 best seasons in 27 years had the three best QBs during Kirk’s tenure running the ship. Honest question, would you rather football just go back to the leather helmet era and everyone run a full option offense?
Don’t forget Drew Tate, 2004. Hawks win the Big 10 with no running game. But, I’m sure there was “not a strong correlation” between wins and QB play that year.
Those seasons also carried special strength in other areas of the team.
You have to also include Stanzi's bad plays, if we're talking overall QB play. Plus, the previous season, Iowa was only 6-3 in games Stanzi started.
Rudock was one of KF's few QB's to sniff around in the NFL. 8-5 and 7-6 at Iowa.
What you say has its truth. Most of Iowa's best seasons carried its best QB play.
But perhaps I could better express my point by putting it this way. Strong QB play has not been a big part of what has made Iowa successful for most of 2 and a half decades.
So for Iowa, its not what fans make it out to be. Which is my real point. Why are people saying this season comes down to QB play, when it almost never does at Iowa? It's because that's what fans do, that's why.
Maybe Iowa will win 10 games in this regular season that will include excellent QB play. But maybe it won't. Iowa has won 10 regular season games in the past, with perhaps their worst QB ever, having 7 starts.
But as far as I'm aware, you guys aren't predicting 10+ wins this season. You have Iowa slotted at 8/9 wins. So really, the only reason you're saying an 8/9 win season will come down to QB play, is because you're typical football fans. And because many of you think that results tied to QB play this season, would support, what in your mind is reason to believe your negativity levied at the program has been justified
