Fitz is a damn good coach. With Lavar Woods there as his Assistant Head Coach, you can bet they will build an Iowa like all business mentality at that School. The days of them getting the cast offs that Michigan didn't want are gone.
After NW defensive coordinator (hank) retired fitz was mediocre at NW.
NW fan base was happy to see him ousted.
Any success he enjoys at MSU is dependent on huge donor gift and his coordinators
Very average coach.

Well let's see: Best years under KF: 2002, 2009, 2015. There is a common denominator between the three. Yeah, Stanzi threw picks in 2009 but he also made huge plays down the stretch to win games. Brad Banks one of the best QB seasons in Iowa history. CJB won games with his arm and feet in 2015. Is that enough correlation?

The 3 best seasons in 27 years had the three best QBs during Kirk’s tenure running the ship. Honest question, would you rather football just go back to the leather helmet era and everyone run a full option offense?

Don’t forget Drew Tate, 2004. Hawks win the Big 10 with no running game. But, I’m sure there was “not a strong correlation” between wins and QB play that year.
Those seasons also carried special strength in other areas of the team.

You have to also include Stanzi's bad plays, if we're talking overall QB play. Plus, the previous season, Iowa was only 6-3 in games Stanzi started.

Rudock was one of KF's few QB's to sniff around in the NFL. 8-5 and 7-6 at Iowa.

What you say has its truth. Most of Iowa's best seasons carried its best QB play.

But perhaps I could better express my point by putting it this way. Strong QB play has not been a big part of what has made Iowa successful for most of 2 and a half decades.

So for Iowa, its not what fans make it out to be. Which is my real point. Why are people saying this season comes down to QB play, when it almost never does at Iowa? It's because that's what fans do, that's why.

Maybe Iowa will win 10 games in this regular season that will include excellent QB play. But maybe it won't. Iowa has won 10 regular season games in the past, with perhaps their worst QB ever, having 7 starts.

But as far as I'm aware, you guys aren't predicting 10+ wins this season. You have Iowa slotted at 8/9 wins. So really, the only reason you're saying an 8/9 win season will come down to QB play, is because you're typical football fans. And because many of you think that results tied to QB play this season, would support, what in your mind is reason to believe your negativity levied at the program has been justified

I smell BS… I don’t agree and yes I have my Hawkeye glasses on… Iowa drubbed Washington a few seasons ago and Michigan isn’t the Michigan of old…

Well, that was Washington a few seasons ago. This year they are considered a preseason top 20 team.

And Michigan has much better coaching now, imo. And they enter as a preseason top 15 team.

8 B1G teams make the top 20.

Current Preseason Top 25:
1. Ohio State
2. Oregon

3. Georgia
4. Notre Dame
5. Texas
6. Indiana
7. Miami
8. Ole Miss
9. Texas A&M
10. LSU

Others:
14. Michigan
15. Penn State
17. Washington
19. IOWA

20. USC

With Indiana's schedule, they should probably be the favorite.....but who knows what happens in the BTCG.

I think we punch above our weight and new coaches at PSU and Michigan struggle. I think we end up 5th or 6th.

I do kinda think we will see Oregon vs Indiana in the B1G title game. We'll see.

With all of their money and billionaire donors, it's gonna be hard to jump over Ohio State, Oregon, Indiana and Michigan. Penn State & USC should be annual contenders, as well.

Imagine if Little Debbie finishes as predicted (11th or worse). Penn State fans have to be really happy they didn't end up with Matt Rhule.

Matt Rhule (3 seasons at Little Debbie)
2023: 5-7
2024: 7-6
2025: 7-6

So Penn State with Iowa State players is ranked above Iowa?
I noticed that too. They left with their head coach (HCMC in clown gibberish) and some assistants too. Dear Lord, the clowns are going to suck sewer water this year.

Have you seen their schedule? They don't play OSU, Oregon or Indiana, (the three favorites) and they dont' just have ISU's players, (although they took pretty much all of the good ones). If Campbell doesn't win 10-11 games he should be on the hot seats by year two with that schedule

Check out PSU's schedule. Has to be one of the three easiest in the B1G this season with NONE of the top three teams on it.

Penn State better go at least 10-2 with this cupcake schedule. Road games against Michigan & Washington are their toughest games, imo. Their 3rd toughest game, imo, is USC at home.

They should start the season 6-0 before they head to Ann Arbor.

Penn State's 2026 Schedule

Nonconference games:
vs Marshall; at Temple; vs Buffalo.

Conference games:
vs Wisconsin
at Northwestern
vs USC
at Michigan

vs Purdue
at Washington
vs Minnesota
vs Rutgers
at Maryland

I think we’re a better team than Washington but teams heading West if you look at the records it’s not good. And Willingham is a very solid coach at Michigan unfortunately. They’re going to be tough and physical.

I don't see a problem with the top 5, and it ending at Michigan. after that you could probably jumble up 6-8 and toss the dice and it would be anybody's guess. so Iowa at 8 is not that far off. maybe 6 or 7 for Iowa.

I think talent wise, Washington is on par with us. But coaching is where I think we have the advantage. Washington has had some mental lapses the past few years, losing to Wisconsin last year, and Rutgers the year before. With the talent they have, they should've soundly beaten both. Kirk will need to outcoach Jedd Fisch if we want to win at Husky Stadium.

Try telling the players they have zero chance of winning a natty.
And you are utterly full of **** saying there is no correlation between QB play and wins. It has literally been the difference in every team that has won a natty in the CFP era except for possibly Muchigan
Yikes, no correlation? Eyes earning the name eyesofretard all over again!

Great post! QB play is so vitally important for success. I believe Lester knows this all too well, and is working to get us there. We've got a better room ever since little Brian left. People who simped for that loser are probably in shambles. This will be the first time under Lester we've had a QB in the system for more than a year, I think fans are valid to be optimistic because we know the better the QB, the more success we'll have.

Go Hawks!

I never said "no correlation".

This is where your intentional mischaracterization, to act like you can't see my posts, contributes to "ruining" threads. Because I then have to come in and correct you, because I'm not going to stand for the mischaracterization.

Who has ever "simped" for BF? I've never heard one person express anything close to that.

I like how you picked back up the "go Hawks!", though. Solid deception from 2Deceptive. 🤣

Go Hawks!

May I ask again? How, in your mind, is it relevant that "Iowa drubbed Washington a few seasons ago" ?

Take your extra-thick glasses off every once in a while.

But what if they pull off an upset along the way and go 10-2?

Scott says with Ohio State's schedule, if they go 9-3 they are still a playoff team.

7 of OSU's opponents:
Texas, Oregon, Indiana, USC, Michigan, IOWA, Illinois.
