…”3 miles away to be exact.”

That’s like driving from SPHS up to the Abbey, That has lots of potential for a big rivalry.
Don’t know if they still do it, but the Kannapolis – Concord rivalry involves the winning team taking possession of a large bell, that’s on a platform with wheels.
Hopefully, in the future, there’ll be something like that between South Point and Cramer.

Hope your right

East Duplin, WRH, Tarboro, South Point, Hibriten, New Bern have all won Championships in the past 10 years running either a version of the wing t or flex bone.
It is the great equalizer, and it wins. I just think it will be harder and harder to run and keep kids in this day and age. Different day today than the last 10 years whether us old guys like it or not.

It is. If you go to the spread and keep the zone read, speed option type stuff your basically still running the same offense its just spread out and easier to throw out of. Ive seen some horrible looking spread teams that would have been better off running an "80s" offense.

You are 100% right. I mean you saw our offense last year and there was a lot of zone reads out of the spread. We have a ton of talent in the WR/TE department and we are still run first.

And all these teams running gh counter, thats a wing t concept.
I definitely think variations of it are great in every offense. However if you run a wish bone, red bone, or whatever you want to call it, it is getting harder and harder to get all the kids to buy into it with how easy it is to bolt to another program and not get ostracized like a kid used to.

“Imagine going to HS game in the 80s/90s just to watch both teams do this all game…”

☝️You still would have liked it.

Can recall games as far back as the very early part of the 1960’s. Lots of teams used a T backfield, then sometime later an “I” formation. They would try to punch a hole in the other teams’ line and run through it, but it was still exciting.

Around 1977 Coach Harris at Lincolnton begin using a veer type of an offense which I believe he picked up from Wake Forest. He used both a split backfield, where the halfbacks were behind the guards, and the “I”; Then, I thought that was taking a big chance, but by today’s standards it would look pretty conservative.

Seems like passing began to increase in the late 60’s or early 70’s…The first run-and-shoot type of an offense I saw was used by Cummings High out of Burlington in the 1988 state championship game against Shelby.

Lincolnton began to model the Cummings offense around the time Moody was the quarterback. He had the arm and athletes to run it. Lincolnton and Foard were two of the local teams at that time that aired it out. Lincolnton was more of a balance mix and usually had a core group of leaders for receiving yards and touchdown receptions in the local papers. Clonninger was not afraid to experiment.
