I was not fooled. You never read the X post close enough. Truly moronic. The post said lowest amount of fires through June of 2026 with the disclaimer of we will have to see how the rest of the year goes.
“According to the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) Global Fire Assimilation System (GFAS), the first half of 2026 (1 January–30 June) recorded the lowest global biomass burning emissions in the 24-year satellite record (2003–present). Total estimated carbon emissions stayed just below 400 megatonnes of carbon, continuing a longer-term downward trend driven mainly by reduced seasonal burning in tropical Africa.
Burned-area data from the Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS, based on NASA MODIS/VIIRS satellites) similarly showed cumulative global burned area running at or near record lows for much of the period through mid-year, with every continent below the recent average and Africa, the Americas, and Europe at particularly low levels relative to 2012–2025. Africa dominates global burned-area totals because of extensive savanna and agricultural fires, so quieter conditions there strongly pull the worldwide numbers down.
Important context
• Emissions vs. area: Biomass-burning emissions (what CAMS tracks) and burned area (what GWIS tracks) are related but not identical metrics. Both pointed lower in H1 2026.
• Regional variation: Northern Hemisphere boreal activity (Canada, Siberia) was quieter early on and only ramped up later in June. Southern Hemisphere saw some intense early activity (e.g., parts of Australia and South America), but it was not enough to offset the global decline.
• July shift: The large European fires (Spain, France) and increased Northern Hemisphere activity in July sit outside the “first half” window. Global numbers can still change substantially in the second half of the year, as boreal and Mediterranean seasons peak.
Longer-term satellite records generally show a gradual decline in global burned area over recent decades, largely because of land-use changes and reduced agricultural/savanna burning in the tropics, even as extreme fires in some forested or WUI regions have become more intense or impactful in certain years. The first-half 2026 numbers fit that broader pattern of lower overall activity so far.”
Let’s get to your great panic over Europe. There is one fire in Europe right now. 1. Europe is a big place.
In late July 2026, wildfires in southwestern France (mainly Gironde and Landes departments, advancing toward Bordeaux) and parts of Spain (notably west of Madrid, plus areas near Valencia and elsewhere) forced roughly 250,000–300,000+ people to evacuate or shelter in place. France accounted for the bulk (around 197,000–250,000 in the southwest alone at peaks), described by officials as among the country’s largest peacetime evacuations; Spain declared a national emergency with tens of thousands ordered out or confined. One death and dozens of injuries were reported; international and military help (aircraft, personnel) was mobilized.
Main drivers
• Weather and fuels: Successive extreme heatwaves (part of broader 2026 European heat events) left vegetation extremely dry. An earlier wetter period had produced more growth that then turned into abundant fuel. Strong winds rapidly spread the fires, creating fast-moving fronts that outpaced containment in places.
• Location relative to people: Fires threatened or approached residential zones, suburbs, coastal tourist spots (busy in summer), and areas near cities like Bordeaux and Madrid. Precautionary mass orders were issued early for safety—better to move many people than risk trapped populations as conditions worsened overnight or with shifting winds. Burned areas were extensive (tens of thousands of hectares in the main French fires alone).
So 1 death. “Climate Change” was so bad that they had a really wet period that increased vegetation…you know…the source that dries out in a heat wave. They evacuated people to Bordeaux temporarily for precaution. Reading NPR, BBC and using wiki as an actual source of truth rots the brain. Go be a Democrat.
BTW nowhere in your posts do you mention how great CO2 is. CO2 allows photosynthesis. Science and all that. It’s no wonder satellites have noted how much vegetation is thriving on Earth right now, despite some countries willfully trying to destroy their own rain forests. More vegetation. More potential for fire. Earth has seen this movie over and over again.
