Mathews US vs Hanamori Japan 60kg

Hanamori with the pushout for 1. Hanamori with the head pinch for 2 but Mathews catches the second roll through for 2 Ref had his hand raised for the pin but holds off and Hanamori fights off his back. Another head pinch for 2 for Hanamori 5-2 Hanamori at the break.

2nd

Mathews with the body lock but a Hanamori head pinch score 2, Mathews catches the second roll again for 2 7-4 screen froze and I missed 2 for Hanamori 9-4. Mathews loses.

Greco isn't bad at this level. Wrestlers are competent enough to hit moves but it's not like Seniors where it's a 1-1 snooze fest since the defense has gotten so good.

It seems some countries play fast and loose with the ages. Most U17s look like kids but a few would get served in an American bar without being carded. One 110Kg had a beard and male pattern baldness. And if Iran's 60Kg is under 17, I'm a monkey's uncle.

Dannegger US v Tarelunga Moldova 51Kg

Dannegger up 2-0 when I turned it on. Dannegger with a 2 and 1 for Moldova 4-1 Dannegger at the break.

2nd
Moldova spun at after being pushed to the edge for a step out 4-2. Moldova headlock on the edge up 6-4 now Moldova with the cold spray lunger. 52 left. Dannegger pushes to the edge and then gets ole'd for the step out 7-4 desperation throw gets Dannegger on his back and loses 9-4. Moldova does have an Amish style bowl cut.

Brown wins his repechage match by fall while trailing 3-2. Pandey loses 6-3 against Georgia who was really tall and skinny.

What were Pandey's cautions for? The ones where he ended up on top, points awarded to his opponent and restart in bottom of par terre?

Wax with a slide by TD 2-0. Aliev put down first Wax with the trap arm turn and then a gut up 7-0. Challenge requested. They did the challenge, no score change but no point for Wax. 7-0 Wax at the break

Wax tries head pinch but nothing. Aliev head pinch for 2. 7-2. Wax slide by for TD. 9-2 arm spin for 11-2 win for Wax and onto the semis

Rylen Wax to Semis. I'm enjoying the U17's because they haven't really "been there before" and the emotions are big. Although, the USA guys seem to be pretty steady, neither over celebrating a win or seeming devastated at a loss.

Rylen Wax US vs Afruzbek Ibragimov UZB

Wax is from Dublin, Ohio a Columbus suburb and is also the US U17 freestyle rep.

Wax holding center to start. Working underhook but now UZB in control with a headlock series. Wax goes down first. Gets reversal and runs a bar and a half. back to feet 1-1. Wax arm sping to nothing. Working underhook as 1st period ends. 1-1 Wax on criteria.

2nd

UZB back to underhook headlock. Wax tries slide by still no scoring. UZB goes down 2-1 Wax. Back to neutral. Wax tries arm drag then hip toss for no points. UZB looks gassed tries the flailing in desperation as Wax advances to the finals with 2-1 win.

51kg Semis. Tarelunga loses by TF so American Dannegger is out of the tournament.

The 45Kg Iranian was a no-show for his semis. Iran's 25 year old looking 60Kg ekes out a 5-4 win.

Etu US 92kg pulled into repechage by UKR quick TF in semis.

Gets winner of AZE and Iran tomorrow for the right to face UZB.

It's been much worse in some matches with multiple challenges. I think they only have one challenge official station so if there's challenges on other mats, they have to wait. One match had three challenges and two officials conferences. The 4 minute match took a half hour.

The 65Kg bronze match. Aze wins 6-5 over India, India throws a brick at the end just to throw a brick. No points in the last 30 seconds so there was nothing even remotely close to challenge. 7-5 after the failed brick.

Russia beats Ukraine in the 65 finals. For some reason they don't like each other. Lots of rough stuff during the match and they yelling at each other afterwards.

Ivanov US vs Kholmirzaev UZB

Ivanov working 2 on 1 gives up a slidy by TD down 0-2. Tries arm spin for nothing. UZB goes for throw Ivanov catches it but no score. UZB taking his first lunger with a miracle spray to the shoulder. Ivanov with 4 pt lefty headlock and gives up reversal. Up 4-3. at the break.

UZB looks gassed just walking back out for 2nd period. Throws by off the whistle for a step out point 4-4 Ivanov. Gives up a 5 pt throw and a step out down 10-4. UZB slide by for 12-4 TF.

80Kg finals Iran beats AZE 2-1. That's the Greco we all know and hate. Elbows tucked bumping into each other like elephant seals at the beach. Waiting for par terre to decide it. Iran got a lift from par terre to a step out point to win.

Iran and Russia might be the worst Greco match I've ever seen . Iran stood in the same spot for 3:50 of the match and did nothing but somehow got the first passivity point so he kept standing there to win 1-1. Russia didn't even put Iran in par terre when it was his passivity.

Pallone US vs Prykhodko UKR

UKR must be using his son's identification to stay off the front lines. No way that man is U17. Lots of 17 year old are starting to bald with a beard.


UKR with the 2 on an arm spin. 2-0 UKR and pushing Pallone around. UKR with the huge throw up 6-0 and a fleeing the hold for an 8-0 win but that's being challenged. Challenge won. Pallone gets pushouts 6-1. break

2nd

Pallone with the bear hug OB for 4. 6-5 UKR. UKR 4 pointer 10-5. Pallone goes for the Rachel and loses 14-5.

I like the fight in Pallone, despite the loss. USA Greco silver is an achievement.

43 - Lundy - the opponent she lost to is in semis
49 - Silva - the opponent she lost to is in semis
57 - Elison is into semis, looking strong.
65 - Skrocki - the opponent she lost to is in semis
73 - Manuel is into semis, looking good

Edited to add:
A lucky and good semis for the USA women - Lundy, Silva and Skrocki all into repechage, Elison and Manuel into finals. Earlier in Greco, Etu was eliminated.
