'26 U17 World Championships (7/27-8/2) thread

The 2026 U17 World Championships take place on 7/27 through 8/2 at Baku Azerbaijan. Please use this thread for all pre-tournament, in-tournament, and post-tournament discussion.

None of the USA MFS team members have verballed to PSU. However, several of them are from PA, or adjacent states, so PSU may be involved with one or more of them.

Rylen Wax 45kg, will be a HS freshman, can't be contacted for 2 more years but he's from Ohio, just south of C'bus.

Kooper Deputy, 48kg, So, from Chestnut Ridge, Cael can call him next June.

Evan Restivo, 51kg, Fr, trains at M2, 2 years before contact.

Chase Karenbauer, 55kg, Jr, Grove City, trains at Bad Karma. Maybe Gary Steen helps lure him to Stallwater?

JoJo Burke, 60kg, Jr, St. Joes, NJ, need an recruiting update from Willie.

Arseni Kikinou, 65kg, Sr, Cornell commit.

Cam Howard, 71kg, Jr, KD Trained, I expect we'll get good recruiting news soon.

Jayden O'Farrill, 80kg, Jr. Trains at M2 and NLWC, seems like a done deal.

Salah Tsarni, 92kg, Jr, Air Force Academy commit.

Peter Mocco, 110kg, Jr, You gotta figure he's Iowa's to lose.

55 kg – Corey Brown lost to Kovacs who is in semis
65 kg – Arseni Kikiniou out
80 kg – Ivan Ivanov lost to Rezaei who is in semis

Kikiniou was probably the US's best hope for gold as a returning bronze medalist coming into the tournament so that's a surprise

Bruno Pallone US out of Montana vs Simic of Serbia


Pallone comes out in head gear, has a thicker lower body than Simic. USA chant in background.

Simic with the russian tie, Pallone fights it off. Pallone close to the edge. Gets put down but fights off the gut to standing 1-0 Simic. Pallone now controlling center and winning the sumo battle. Pallone with a 4 point throw off a front headlock being challenged. Scoreboard shows 6-1 something about a foul after the review but they said challenge won. 6-1 at the break After rewatching the match the two points were for a singlet grab by Simic on the throw.

Simic with the slip. Another throw but it almost looked like an outside trip. Score now 10-3 maybe no one seems to know what's happening. Maybe 4 and 2 for Pallone. I'm sorry I don't know Greco rules as well. Score changed to 6-5 Pallone.
Pallone slips on a headlock but rolls through to a gut position somehow. Turns Simic at least twice and holds him on his back for the pin. Pallone wins by fall while up 12-5 and is onto the finals

Since we were talking about it in another thread, Pallone's pin came off a Greco version of Schalles' Clemson roll. Hit the 90 degree dive through but had both arms above the waist rather than catching the wrist through the crotch.

Brown wins his repechage match by fall while trailing 3-2. Pandey loses 6-3 against Georgia who was really tall and skinny.

Ivanov US vs Kubatov KGZ. repechage

Ivanov holding center. Both about the same height. Kubatov down first. Ivanov locks a gut for 1 turn up 3-0. Still holding center gets the body lock then switches to a head pinch and rolls three times for the first period TF 9-0

Wax USA vs Vardanyan Armenia

Wax gives up a Russian tie and is pushed to the edge. Gets put down with no damage. Vandarnyan up 1-0. Wax now holding center. Armenia up 1-0 at the break.

Wax with a nice 4 pt throw up 4-1 and Armenia keeps getting Russian and trying arm spin for nothing. Vandanyan with at least 4 arm spins for no points. Wax advances with a 4-1 win.

Nelson Villafane Puerto Rico/Pennyslvania loses 2-1 to Uzb. Villafane was a multiple time Jr State Champ and is a rising freshman.

Mathews US vs Petrosyan Armenia

Armenia pushing forward and gets step out 1-0. Passivity on Mathews as he goes down. 2-0 Petrosyan with the lift but Mathews gets out somehow. Mathews with a throw by to gut and turn takes 4-2 lead at the break

Mathews doing a better job of not being pushed around and gets throw by TD up 6-2 and another TD for 8-2 lead. Arm with TD 8-4. with 24 left. Petrosyan goes for desperation throw but Mathews catches him and adds a gut for 12-4 win.

Mathews is out of Colorado.

Americans really seem to be out conditioning the world

Brown US vs Trip Romania

Trip holding center but Brown spins back to the middle. Brown with body lock but Trip keeps hips back. Trip down first Brown up 1-0 no turns. break

2nd

Brown goes down and gives up one turn. down 3-1 and injured arm. 52 left on restart. Brown loses 3-1.

Brown is out of Maryland and has folk wins over JoJo Burke and Sean Kenny

Ivanov US vs Gadaborhev Russia

Russia with a throw on the edge but no backs Russia up 2-0 on TD. Russia with throwby for 2 up 4-0. Ivanov digging underhooks then head pinch for 10 points and then fall while leading 10-4.

Ivanov's from Idaho and out of a Bulgarian wrestling family and Suples founders.

92Kg Etu US's next opponent from Greece looked like he broke/dislocated fingers on the last move of his TF over India. Can still see him being treated in the background long after his match was over.

Aiden Arnett US vs Deacu Romania

Deacu stars with the head pinch but Arnett works out. Arnett with a lot of heavy shoving. Both now heavy pushes instead of ties. Arnett goes down first. Arnett fight off turns with a lat throw for 2 then gives up 1 . 2-2 Arnett at the break.

2nd

Arnett keeps fighting off head pinch position as the pace has slowed down. Deacu goes down 3-2 Arnett. Deacu crawls out of bounds for an Arnett point and Deacu goes back on bottom. Arnett with a gut turn up 6-2 and back to neutral. Arnett keeps giving up the head pinch position and Deacu hits the throw as time expires. Challenged and challenge lost as time was expired. Arnett advances 7-2
