Given the quality of Iowa teachers that post here I have two immediate thoughts..

1. I'm surprised they ranked as high as they did. I'd have assumed they'd be worse, somewhere in the 30 to 40 range maybe.

2. The teachers are still grossly overpaid.

A Hills Elementary school K teacher who had a class of 20 was making 105K for 9 months work....benefits excluded...

Is it surprising that in a state who's women are much older than the average would have few OB GYNs?

Can you expand on that?

Pretty common example actually.

Tom Paris and Fagnar are two immediate examples for quick reference.

My wife makes no where close to that. Your anecdote is meaningless.

It's not surprising gynecologists don't want to practice in a state where they might get in legal trouble for providing healthcare.

When you say "healthcare" do you actually mean murdering the unborn?

Tom Paris has no business being around children. I truly hope you’re BS’ n there
Unfortunately not. Tom Paris should indeed be banned from being around kids. Rags has stage 4 TDS, but he means well (mostly). Tom is an actual menace who has openly bragged about having inappropriate conversations with his students.

And what does that say about the state of Iowa? So few young women is the explanation? That’s a major problem. Also, you are and always have been a dipshid.

Gynecologists don't want to practice here due to legal issues is even more anecdotal than my example of my grandson's teacher's salary. The graphic showed an actual number of GYNs being low. Iowa has a low number of women 18 - 40. My teacher/wife retired at 55 and lives quite comfortably. The cost of living in Iowa is quite reasonable you know...

I mean healthcare. Abortion falls under that umbrella.
If the choices are banning abortions or the current mainstream liberal position of abortion till the point of birth I'm gonna have to suggest that abortion bans are morally superior by a significant margin.

Just on channel 9 Eyeball News tonight...

Such terrible care here in IoooWay...

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - More than a year after making history as the world’s most premature surviving baby, Nash Keen continues to reach new milestones while giving hope to families of the tiniest newborns.

Last week, TV9 reported on how Nash’s survival is helping shape care for babies born at 21 weeks gestation. Now, his mother says his journey continues to inspire parents navigating similar circumstances.

Researchers at University of Iowa Health Care recently reported that six out of17 babies born at 21 weeks gestation at hospital between 2010 and early 2025 survived to hospital discharge. Doctors say those outcomes reflect advances in neonatal care for babies once considered too premature to survive.

Nash, who was was born 133 days premature, continues to make steady progress at home. He still participates in physical, occupational and speech therapy. His mother, Mollie Keen, said he is now crawling, sitting up on his own, expanding his vocabulary and beginning to feed himself. He still uses a feeding tube and receives oxygen while sleeping after experiencing recent respiratory illnesses.

“I love that Nash is paving the way for more babies to be saved and I’ve heard from so many 21-22 week moms who have reached out to me for support and I love that they’re reaching out to me and that Nash is giving them hope. That means more to me than anything,” Keen said.

The OP's rankings were what? Oh yeah, a political gottcha trying to show some kind of causal relationship in areas not related to policy but more demographic in nature. Our teachers make less because our cost of living is less. Economic growth is less because farm economies don't generally boom. ( and then collapse like some ). Even someone with a City High education should be able to dissect these stats...

Demographic in nature? The nuns failed you. You cite gynecologists, but don't mention that we rank low in physicians. What's the deal with cancer? They like Iowa's demographics? Retention of young people is explained how? Impaired lakes and rivers is related to demographics how? Farm bankruptcies? We've got the wrong kind of demographics farming?

Don't ask the ICSD they have no idea...

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Tuesday’s Iowa City Community School District board meeting is set to discuss the final report from the district’s Interim Chief Financial Officer Kim Michael-Lee.

In the report filed ahead of the meeting, she says despite financial records being incorrect, she found no fraudulent activity or cover-ups while at the district. Michael-Lee served as Interim CFO until Pat Moore took over as CFO.

The report says staff were unable to prepare financial statements correctly because they couldn’t understand the software and didn’t understand how to properly read the financials.

So, instead of answering a question you present a local news story which, again, doesn’t answer the question.

Farm bankruptcies grew 220% according to the potential House Rep. Mohler. Yes it did from 7 in 2024 to 18 in 2025 an increase of 220%. That's about 1 bankruptcies for every 5+ Iowa counties, turrible. Probably that many restaurants in Johnson County went under last year...

Cancer? Alcohol, obesity, drugs. Farming however...

According to the 2026 Cancer in Iowa Report released by the State Hygienic Laboratory / Iowa Cancer Registry, Iowa farmers experienced 13% fewer overall cancer cases than expected compared to the general state population, though specific types like prostate and lip cancer occurred at higher rates.

Farmer Cancer Findings
    • Lower Overall Rates: Farmers showed a 13% reduction in overall cancer incidence, featuring lower-than-expected rates for lung, colorectal, bladder, and pancreatic cancers.
