What in the AF is the world coming to? You throw a birthday party for your precious child, and expect the invitees to "tip" you to defray costs of the party? GTFO.

Tipped my tattoo artist this weekend. Personally think they should just charge for their service what they think they should be paid, but also, its something permanent and it has become standard, so it is what it is.
That's one where you'd think that the price should just be the price. They're already charging like $200/hr, or whatever it is now. It should be inherent in that pricing that they're going to do a good job and give you something you'll love and be proud of. That shouldn't necessitate a tip. Can't currently fight it though or, if they do a good job and you like them, but didn't tip, you'll never get another appt to go back to them.

Exactly. And I know there are those out there that don't accept tips and even say that up front in their pricing. But not the ones I've used unfortunately ha.

I have a friend who is beginning to have chest pains over a wedding reception he and his wife are planning for next Summer. He's at $30,000 already with the reception venue, catering, booze, entertainment... They are at 300 guests, and don't think they can keep it under 400.
So glad our son wanted a backyard wedding with 30 people in attendance. We gave them $3000 to cover the food and booze.
Point being, I can really see people starting to nose around for donations for weddings when you're at $30,000 within the first week of planning and booking.

I guess I figured these days for weddings, if you're in it for a penny you're in it for $50K...

In an example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", I've been cutting my hair with the same set of $40 clippers for >30 years.

One of my best friends is in that cult too. Ever since he threw in the towel he's been low-key trying to convince anyone with thinning hair to join him.

The pride is on par with Uncle Jesse Katsopolis.

Don't get me wrong, it's fine and kind of funny. The level of excitement is a little sus though for something inevitable.

They don’t need to invite 400+. Anyone who has ever planned a wedding knows the plate count is where the costs gets out of control.

I started buzzing my hair long before I needed to. Once things did start to thin out (a genetic inevitability that I prolonged as long as I could), I just kept going. It's been far too long to now try and go figure out if there's another option. Even before all of that, my hair was curly enough that I still kept it cut really short - not tight littler perm curls, but big looping curls. Great if you're a woman, not as great if you're a kid growing up in the 70s with your mom taking pictures of you with great big poofy beautiful hair. Finally being able to control my own hairstyle was a gamechanger for me!

When we got married we had ~30 people for the wedding, and about ~50 for the reception. The wedding was at an outdoor amphitheater that was really nice (and free to use). The reception was a big BBQ at a pavilion out at the nearby lake. We decided early on that we only wanted people there that ACTUALLY meant something to us. No distant cousins, random friends of our parents, friends we rarely connected with, etc. Just people close to us, and it was terrific! Probably the best wedding I've been to, because we all had fun.

I went to a wedding of a friend of a friend, whose bride's father was a big-time muckety-muck. So there were hundreds of people, at a really nice place, and the whole thing cost way too many tens of thousands of dollars. From what we could see, the bride and groom had a miserable time, while everyone else enjoyed themselves. It was a "you'd better eat before the reception" deal because they had a wedding coordinator guiding them all over the place on a strict schedule, and they didn't get the chance to have a good time at their own wedding. I'd have hated that.

We did it in the middle of the Oregon range with a live band and only 80 people and paid $12,000 when it was all said and done. It was awesome.

Even with 80 I didn’t feel like I had enough time to see everyone as much as I wanted to. I can’t imagine balancing 400+.

Weddings and gift requests are getting out of hand too by requesting gifts then asking for a sponsorship of the bride and groom to help fund their “trips of a lifetime”. We’ve also had a couple invites to weddings where we are responsible for paying for our own meal at the reception.

It’s all getting out of control as far as I’m concerned so we just don’t go and send a check for $50 to $100 depending on if we even know the people getting married or if they would know us in the reception line. If you have to say who you are and they have no clue of you then I’m not going. I’ll send a gift to be nice but less than $50.00. You weren’t my friend before the wedding and won’t be one after so I don’t care if you get mad at me.

It’s really too bad that your that much of a loser that you feel the need to do stupid sh.it like this with any/all of my comments. It really is too bad that I am living rent free in your and plenty other people’s minds. I do feel bad that you are this badly bothered by my comments.

You were so bothered by their comments about you that you followed them to a new board to attempt to defend yourself. All those people, living rent free in your head.

And when you're trying to call someone else a loser, it's best to not mess up "your" and "you're."

You did!?!? I've heard folk tales about movers being given a few hundred dollar guitar simply because the family didn’t want it. Makes me think I should buy a van and start moving stuff so I can get in on the lucrative biz.
Great idea, we can use the van for more than “selling candy” to kids.

I never went to Subway very much but I completely quit when they asked for tips.

they don’t ask for tips at McDonald’s.

tipping should be illegal unless it’s table service. That’s a law that could win some votes.
