Hey this might have been a case of you can do no right

I get it that sometimes no matter what the business does the customer just wants to be difficult and there is NO DESIRE TO BE CODIAL

Just wanted to say there are those cases

Stop making stuff up in your head then. Thats a you problem. My grandpa also thought that as he aged, all while his entire family encouraged him and my grandma to spend/donate every dime they had.

sensitive we are

Just so you know my two kids are wonderful and they get the little bit I have when I go

Actually I have given them as much as I can before I croak as I trust them with my life

Maybe he should train his staff to ask folks do they have any coupons or discounts when ringing it up

Or maybe have a prominent sign displayed saying discount for seniors

If a senior has to ask if you give a discount then you are doing a poor job in your advertising

Avoid petty stuff like this by good management

BTW I like the Culver menu

Fish sandwiches are great and the 10 jumbo shrimp do it for me
Also if the customer is that worried about it they should watch it closely while being rung up and kindly ask if they offer a senior discount-or be an ahole and ask while being rung up(either way would have avoided the situation). It goes both ways. I also realize many elderly are not as sharp as they once were. Look at many of our politicians!

Culver's offers a senior discount ranging from 5% to 10% off, though it is managed on a location-by-location basis and typically applies to customers aged 55 or 60 and older. [1, 2, 3]

Important Details
    • Varying Participation: Because Culver's locations are independently owned franchises, not all restaurants participate in the senior discount program. [1, 2, 3, 4]
    • Age Requirements: Where offered, the qualifying age is usually set at 55 or 60. [1, 2]
    • Must Ask at Register: The discount is rarely applied automatically. You must explicitly request the senior discount when placing your order before paying. [1, 2, 3]

****. I just realized I am only a few years away from receiving senior discounts. That sucks.

Actually Senior Citizens of which I am one should be savvy and always ask if there is a SCD

Unfortunately there are some hateful folks who want to be disagreeable or worse their health is failing and anger is a consequence of that

My wife is starting to have mild dementia and when I bring up something about her memory and have to remind her the response always starts out with anger

You learn to practice empathy and how you be the adult with the situation

Id apply this to FF workers as well. They dont have a fun job making 12.50 an hr. Probably best not treating them like **** for going by store policy.

Probably time for you to head out to the porch and scream at kids for being by your lawn.
Any customer service job is difficult and very draining. It's incredibly hard work for low pay and you get no respect. I worked for years as an adult in retail (not FF) and these days when WFH or the office at my "white collar" job when I deal with a difficult client or have something go wrong I try to remind myself how good I have it comparatively.

I personally think working Senior Citizen Nursing Facilities has to be the toughest.

Those people are criminally underpaid for the work they do in my opinion.

And a big reason I think the crackdown on immigration is a mistake - with my folks in first assisted living then eventually hospice, is around 75% of staff seemed to be immigrants. Not sure who is going to take care of our old people if Stephen Miller gets his way.

I fall into that senior discount category.
It's not the responsibility of the person at the register to ask the question IMO.
I use it when I remember to ask but never understood the entitlement really.
10% is not a reason to get your panties in a bunch over.

Maybe. Post a sign saying if over 65 ask for the Senior Citizen Discount right on the cash register

As much as I abhor illegal immigration I would be all in on a program where people would be trained in medical facilities in other countries and then when top notch be asked to come to US on work permit

I've been behind a person that was offered a senior discount that took offense. Often customer service employees can't win for losing. Seems people are always looking for a reason to get angry these days. The employee in the OP did everything right in my opinion.

No senior discount for anyone ever no matter what. Seniors have so much extra monet they should be paying extra.
What's blew my mind, about a year ago I was buying donuts for coworkers, lady at counter asked me if I was a senior citizen, I said that I wasn't, only 60 at the time. She said that's the number that they go by. Next time I bought I just paid, no senior discount. Waaaaa,

Stopped off for a burger after golf and this older couple was at the next table.
A young kid (asst manager) came over and said he understood they’d complained about not automatically getting the senior discount. He apologized and said they are happy to give it but do not automatically offer it because some people have gotten upset if they staff assumes the customers are eligible.

This older man wouldn’t let it go - rude as hell to the kid and claiming Culver’s just wanted to rip off senior citizens, how he was going to call the owner, etc etc.

Two questions-

1. Why are so many older people such jerks?
2. Is there any situation in which this would bother you?

I don’t get it.
1. Most older people are not jerks...
2. Most younger people are not jerks...

3. All jerks are jerks...

Bingo.

I worked in the full service restaurant business from 1975 to 1996 doing every job from dishwasher to store manager. I still consider those jobs and that time of my life to be the hardest I've ever worked. So even though I rarely go out to eat any more, or do fast food - I have a lot of empathy for every employee I come across.

I have a simple way of behaving whenever I eat out or go to a bar - make the job on them as absolutely easy as possible. Know what you're ordering, know how much it costs (so there's no check sticker shock surprises), please and thank you to everybody you interact with.

Using this method, ever since I left the business 30 years ago, never once had an issue from the biggest dive bars to your average Culver's to the ritziest of full service restaurants.

As for senior citizen discounts, I'm 64 so I haven't really pondered how I'm going to handle it when the time comes. It doesn't help that most people seem to believe I look younger than my age...so we'll see.

You, you lazy bastard. They took care of you since you were hatched and sh.itting your pants, until at least you were 18 and still sh.itting your pants. You can take care of them when they're old and doing the same. You'll have time, too ... in between writing bits like "Do You Like Nachos? I Like Nachos!" for the Daily HawkTuah.

Yeah jWolfe. After coasting through college with a degree in some kind of science, medical school, and residency, you think you might want to put in some work for a change?

Not all young folks feel entitled

Some become billionaires

Some on the other hand becomes derelicts

Reward those who do good with more good
