I still don't get it, Alaska. How is this a both sides thing when nobody feared Biden but everyone fears Trump? If anything this is a perfect example of a one sided thing. It's literally one side displaying a trait absent in the other side.

Are you being intentionally obtuse? ...at this point there's really no other explaination. I never said people feared Biden...not once. I said many Democrats feared Trump, and that fear was a powerful reason for continuing to support Biden despite his obvious decline. Why is that so hard for you and a few others to grasp? Do you not want to grasp it?

Fear doesn't have to be directed at the person you're voting for. It can be directed at the person you're voting against.

I literally covered this. I said that nobody feared Biden but that everyone fears Trump. He's a bad person. Joe was a good person. Literally the only thing they have in common is that that were both elderly. That's it.

Why can't you just agree with me, and a bunch of other posters on here, that comparing the two situations makes little sense?

This is literally the last time I'm going to explain this to you because you clearly do not want to understand it. I'm not comparing Biden to Trump. I'm explaining why I think many Democrats continued supporting Biden despite his decline. The explanation is super duper simple: fear of the alternative.

You yourself keep saying people feared Trump. Exactly. That's my point. If people believed Trump posed an existential threat, doesn't it make sense they'd be far more willing to overlook Biden's decline than they otherwise would have? Heck, after the debates Chis said he'd still vote for him. Why? Insanity? Fear? What do you think?

So, for the last dadgum time, that's not saying Biden and Trump are the same or that their "situations" are the sam...it's saying fear is a powerful political motivator. Stop reading more into than necessary.

Biden was a regular president and a good man.

Trump is a corrupt president and a bad man.

As long as everyone agrees on these points I don't see much point in splitting hairs on the rest.

I'm confident you agree on these main points, so I'm willing to shelve the other stuff.

I recall one of my best Commanders, he hated the room being called to attention...couldn't say, "Take your seats" fast enough. Very humble leader. He was prior enlisted, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

He's a 2-star now. ...he's the CC who performed my retirement ceremony back in 2013.

I actually chatted with someone last week who’s an Army recruiter. I tiptoed around the issue before asking him what the general feeling was about Donald Trump. He downplayed political sentiment in the military but in a roundabout way said it’s not very positive but not really discussed either.

Do you believe that’s likely to be true?

I think that sentiment is pretty strong; especially with the younger generation. My daughter (who just made E6 last week, btw), is at NSA-T (my former stomping grounds) and she said most people she works with don't support him, but as you know they typically keep their opinions to themselves. ...she just vents to me.

Joe is nothing like Donald. If you want to say he shouldn't have run again, you'd have a point. But, Dems did do the hard thing and push him aside. Some of remembered 1/6, and recognized the evil of electing Trump again. Our fears are being proven to have been well founded.
Let’s be honest here, lucas. The only reason Dems got on board with pushing Joe out was not so much his embarrassing debate performance that summer but more so his poll numbers showing he was likely going to lose to Trump. Had Biden been polling well against the Marmalade Moron, Team Blue’s response to Biden’s debate performance would have been, “Biden had a head cold and took a little NyQuil before going on stage. He’s fine. Still sharp as a tack.”

The debate performance gave Democrats the impetus they were looking for to put ol’ Joe out to pasture, not the other way around.

I disagree. Do you have a better explanation for the blatant cover up for Joe? It took a national audience witnessing it live for them to finally acknowledge it. Or are you of the mindset the Democratic party is somehow above wanting to be in power/control.

Just because the current administration is one of the worst we've seen doesn't somehow mean the Democrat party is above reproach. ...sometimes there are both sides. Even if it's a 30/70.
You nailed it. See my post above.

Link to Biden being anything other than a slowing down old man? I’m still waiting for the dementia diagnosis that people have thrown around for 7 years. I’m still waiting on people from his last administration saying anything close to what cabinet members said about Trump during his first term. You’re better than this.
Oh, FFS. 🤦

If you want to make a comment about how his decline was handled I agree. The dementia Joe comments are ignorant. Biden, again, effed up by not saying early he was a one term president. He just wasn’t demented. I get tired of reading that BS.

The only lib left to tar and feather you is chis, but I imagine that will be happening sooner than later. It’s truly amazing to watch the usual suspects once again lay siege of a vacant castle because they read something that didn’t begin and end with “Orange Man bad.”

Welcome (back?) to the “Both Sides” sin bin (as they call it in hockey). Thankfully, you have only been assessed a two-minute minor, but I strongly advise you to watch your stick, because if it draws blood then you are looking at a double minor.

You’ve been warned.

Congrats to your daughter.

Yeah, I can’t imagine anyone in the military respecting that self-serving, demented mother f#cker as CIC, but I am guessing there are a few other Tiger Growl-esque bootlickin’ sycophants among the rank and file.

Regardless, you have to be a pretty big f#ckup to be a Republican POTUS and not have the general respect of the military.

I didn't always agree with the President during my time, but I at least respected him. I don't recall there ever being any angst over a presidential visit...you went, you saluted/showed respect and went back to work. Not the same these days.

I will say this, though, my daughter's a little more liberal than me and she said basically, this is the best we can do? (referencing Kamala vs Trump). Sad times.

Joe Biden s state of the union speech in Feb of 2024 was a strong, coherent, beat down of the GOP who were talking about cutting Medicare and social security.

He was in total command that nite.
He was convincing that nite.
It went a long way toward convincing rank and file Dems that he was viable for another term.

Then the debate.....different deal.
Amll Dems wish he had declined earlier but by Feb the die was cast.

Fear. Same reason so many Dems supported Dementia Joe--the fear that w/o a party representative in the WH that the other "EVIL" party will be in control and everything you hold dear is gone.

Propoganda is strong in this country.
Dems did not proceed with Joe as a candidate.
The rest of your post is blather.

Sorry...quote feature was screwing up.

Anyhoot, I think you and noleclone are falling into the same trap as Huey and Chis. Any response that isn't filled with outrage over Trump gets dismissed as "both sides" or "Bins."

It's entirely possible to have a negative opinion of how the Biden admin handled his obvious cognitive decline w/o that somehow being a defense of Trump. Whether it was dementia or simply age-related decline, I think it became pretty dadgum clear Biden was no longer capable of serving another four years...probably not even his current term.

Let me ask it this way. If it wasn't largely driven by fear of Trump or losing office/power, what was the rationale for continuing to roll out Biden? Also, do you not think fear is a motivating factor in voting for a candidate?
You seem to be eating from rotten fruit. Yeah, Joe was slowing down. Yeah, Joe stepped aside later than the best time.
The rest of your posts in this thread are abnormal for you.

I think you guys are getting way too hung up on Biden when he wasn't really my point. My point was about fear as a political motivator. Fear has always motivated people. Fear after 9/11 terrified Americans into support the Patriot Act an the Iraq War. Fear of COVID motivated support for lockdowns. Fear of illegals motivates Republicans. Fear of losing abortion rights motivates Democrats. The list goes on and on and on and on.

Fear isn't a Democrat problem or a Republican problem. It's a human problem. My "opinion" is that fear of Trump was one of the reasons many Democrats continued backing Biden longer than they otherwise would have. You don't have to agree with that, but it's hardly a crazy proposition.
Up your meds.
