Please excuse me for a moment while I go bang my head against a wall for an hour or two
Here's the real thing with that comment.....literally no one wants to finish a game and say "man, that was a grind"
When he hit lead-off, Jeter was a legend for his lead-off at bat commentary in the dugout. No matter if the guy smoked him with a good morning, good afternoon, good evening 3 pitch strike-out, or if he was induced to hit a weak pop-up or grounder, or if he smoked a ball into the gap....Jeter always said the same things when he got back to the dugout.
The opposing pitcher stinks (well, I'm sure what he actually said wouldn't get past the filters here)
They are going to bombard him and run him from the game early
There's nothing the pitcher can throw that can beat them
No matter how good or bad his at bat was, he screamed at his team that today is going to be a walk in the park.
THAT is having a killer instinct.

Saw that last night. Fried and Cole pitching a double header. Was really surprised to see that. Knew that Fried was getting close but thought it was supposed to be another 2 weeks or so

He threw 50some in his last rehab start so I'm guessing you misheard LOL
How much longer are we Yankees fans going to have to put up with Boone? How stupid can you be to bring in Cruz, his favorite go to reliever who sucks big time, and allows inherited runners to score every time, to pitch the 10th with a runner on 2nd? Geesh! And to pitch Bednar in the 9th? Lmao Another loss you can pin on Boone.
Another Yankees loss in extra innings and that is squarely on Boone. He never learns. NEVER bring Cruz in with runners on base.

I'm anxious to see what the Yankees do by the trade deadline, if they are serious about trying to improve to win. I want to see a team that expects to win rather than "grinding" and maybe winning.
You just hit the nail on the head and why the Boonie era is well past time coming to an end.

Boone was a grinder as a player. Played with some piss and vinegar, etc. but stuck around a long time because he was a pro. Nothing special...solid pro. Team has resembled that a lot, right?
Girardi was definitely a grinder. He knew how to catch and call a game and he played a long time by just being a pro's pro. Nothing special...just solid. His teams kind of resembled that in performance, right?
Joe Torre....sat in the dugout with the confidence of a Mafia Godfather. Winning aura just surrounded him. Like a Godfather, he didn't have to say much...but when he did.... As a player? Former MVP and one of the best position players of a generation/decade, etc dominated by pitching. And while his playing days were before my time I know from watching old clips and reading about him that he played with a lot of confidence...even some swagger.
Teams often take on the characteristics of their coaches once they have been around a while. And that's part of the reason that Boonie has overstayed his welcome.

Things are different now than when I was scouting and was around teams on a daily basis. The late 70's was when I got my start and you know how those Yankees teams were at that time. Didn't matter if the manager was Billy Martin, Bob Lemon, Yogi, etc. The players on the roster as a whole were mean and driven and frequently fought each other in the clubhouse but not on the field. George went out and got the players and the managers were told to WIN. They pissed players off, pissed George off, etc. But they won. They were not friends to the players buddying up to them in the dugout. Boone having a say so in what players the Yankees get is not good in my eyes.
A funny story. I grew up with Barry Foote and played Legion ball with him. I was delighted when the Cubs traded him to the Yankees. Goose was pitching one game and walked 2 straight batters. Barry walked out to the mound and Goose growled athim, "What the **** are you doing out here?" Barry told him he needed to throw some strikes. Goose yelled at him, "Get the **** off my mound!" Barry yelled back, "Well, throw some damn strikes!" Goose struck out three in a row. I only see Barry now once every few years and the first thing I say to him is, "Get the **** off my mound!" lmao
Can you imagine players today doing that in a game? Need some mean players in this current group.
Your Goose story brought to mind how much I LOVE seeing a pitcher demand to stay in a game. And that is so rare anymore. In the old days pitchers would be screaming at a manager to get back in the dugout the second they hit the top step. And many times if the manager took the ball you would see a pitcher who was pissed off
Mike Mussina used to do it all the time. He would just wave his glove at Joe to say "I got this"
It's one of the things I love about Cole. He doesn't do it much, but when he knows he still has gas in the tank he lets the Manager and everyone else watching know that he still has gas in the tank and he is finishing that inning
Another Bary Foote story was when he was with the Cubs he hit a home run on top of one of the apartment buildings beyond the outfield fence. At the time no one had ever done that. As the the crowd was marveling and murmuring about it, Dave Kingman followed Barry with a home run OVER the same building. lmfao I told Barry his fame lasted 2 minutes.
Yanks are considering trading for that Twins catcher, Ryan Jeffers. I would love to see that.

That pissed me off. He looked at the pitcher with 9 seconds on the clock. I don't see him doing anything wrong. Pitchers hold the ball until the last second. He doesn't want to engage the pitchers with 15 seconds on the clock and I don't blame him.
Cam pitches 7 innings of shutout ball and fans 12. Yanks beat Phills 1-0.
And once again no run support for him. Unreal.

Yeah, the vast majority of players underperform their season averages in the postseason, and given how weak the Yanks offense is right now, I'm not optimistic about the postseason. Judge and Stanton absolutely must be healthy and bopping for the Yanks to make a run in the postseason.
Bellinger with only 11 HRs at the beginning of August is a travesty.
I'm guessing the Yanks swing a deal with Colorado for their catcher AND Mickey Moniak for outfield help
Who knows what our fool leadership will do. Everything is pointing towards the Minnesota catcher.
Will Warren and Weathers suck. I look for both of them to get moved to the pen to replace some of the junk out there. I think both would do good there. They just don't get through a lineup 2nd go round. Doval will be traded and I think we get a few more arms. There's a top closer we are trying to get but I can't think of his name right now.
Just once....just one time....say "we're only happy when we kick their ***....THAT is the standard"
