I have REAL ID as well, but like most states it doesn’t show citizenship status. Most of the registered voters in the U.S. would need a new license to vote under the SAVE America Act. That’s dumb.

No,.. They would need to re-register to vote while providing proof of their citizenship at that time,.. Their current drivers license would still be usable as a way to identify them as the registered voter they claim to be.

The SAVE America Act requires you present ID at the time of voting and the ID must indicate US citizenship.

No a Florida issued Real ID doesn't prove citizenship.

Citizenship will be displayed on Florida DL starting in January 1, 2027, but your current Real ID does not indicate citizenship.

Where did I say my ID displays citizenship? I didn't. If you are going to dispute something I said, how about making sure it's what I actually said. Getting my license required a birth certificate or passport.

No,.. The SAVE America Act requires proof of citizenship at registration,... Once registered, proof of ID is then required to vote.

Key Provisions
    • Proof of Citizenship: Mandates that voters present documentary proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration.
    • Photo ID: Requires in-person voters and absentee voters to present a government-issued photo ID.
    • Federal Database Checks: Compels states to submit their voter registration lists to the Department of Homeland Security for citizenship verification.
    • Penalties: Establishes criminal penalties for election workers who register applicants lacking the proper citizenship documentation.

Proof of citizenship is not required to get a Florida Real ID. The documents you provided might prove you are a citizen, but having a real ID proves nothing regarding citizenship. If you are trying to make the point that getting a Real ID means you have the documentation to prove citizenship that's a different story, but it's not stated in your original claim. Also in case it isn't clear, non citizens can get Real IDs so you didn't have to prove citizenship to get your Real ID.

I live in Florida. I have a Real ID. I had to prove I was a US citizen when I got my current Florida license. Florida doesn't let illegals vote in any election.

You literally just said we need to do this to restore trust in elections. Why don’t you trust the elections? The only reason is because you have swallowed a heaping pile of Trump’s ********. The 2020 elections have been studied to death and have been proven safe.

In general I am fine with voter ID. I am not fine with the save act for at least 5 reasons.
  1. Timing: there are only about 100 days until the election. There is zero chance this could be effectively implemented in that timeframe. Look at how long it took us to roll out those fancy drivers licenses for TSA - it took many years for that. Now you need people to either find their birth certificate or get a passport. You know and I know there will be many thousands if not millions of people who don’t have those documents handy. So now they have to go through some process to obtain them. Which will clog the machinery of government that is not prepped for that workload.
  2. IDs cost money: if we do this (and again I’m ok with voter ID) then people need to be able to get a free government issued ID. It should not cost even one red cent for a citizen to vote.
  3. In person registration requirement: This puts a major burden on people who live in rural areas, folks who work during regular government hours, not to mention that the offices would be overwhelmed.
  4. Documentation mismatches: Some millions of women don’t have a birth certificate matching their married name.
  5. Voter purges: this is a requirement of the act, but purging a registered voter accidentally is disenfranchising their right to vote.
@NorthernHawkeye asked you a very specific question (How would voter ID disenfranchise voters?), you answered it in great detail.......and he completely ignores it.

That perfectly sums up Northern as a poster.

It’s in the bill. Must present a photo ID at the time of voting, and the ID must state you are a U.S. citizen.

I don't see where it says that,... Citizenship is confirmed at registration, then photo ID at time of vote to confirm that you are the registered voter and citizen that you are claiming to be.

"The bill also requires a photo ID with visible expiration date to vote in federal elections, included are driver’s licenses, military IDs and tribal identification cards. Currently, many states do not require voters to present photo ID before casting an in-person ballot, and others accept documents like college student IDs or utility bills."

This seems to describe registration vs voting requirements...

"The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act requires voters to provide documentary proof of citizenship when registering to vote and a government-issued photo ID when casting a ballot.

Proof of Citizenship Requirements (at registration)
A standard driver's license or REAL ID alone does not meet the citizenship requirements of the bill. Acceptable documents for proof of citizenship include:

    • A valid U.S. passport or passport card
    • A REAL ID that explicitly indicates the applicant is a U.S. citizen
    • An official U.S. military ID paired with a military service record showing a U.S. place of birth
    • A valid government-issued photo ID presented alongside a supplemental citizenship document (e.g., a certified birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or Consular Report of Birth Abroad)
Photo ID Requirements (at voting)
When casting a ballot, the act requires voters to present valid, government-issued photo identification. If voting by mail, a copy of the photo ID or the last four digits of the voter's Social Security number must be included with the ballot."

And your point is?

How would we possibly implement this in just over 3 months? You would need massive staffing for passports and birth certifcates, new database tools/queries, an exception handling process, double checks on the voter purges and more. There are a gazillion moving parts to implementing something so comprehensive. And there is only like 13 weeks or so until the election. It is inconceivable this would work in such a short timeline.

Meanwhile any mistake made by the government that purges a valid citizen is disenfranchising their right to vote. I'm good with implementing something, but you have to give it the appropriate time and quality control to make sure that you don't infringe on people's right to vote.

It’s a totally normal thing for a woman to update her birth certificate after getting married. Totes normal.
The irony is that conservative women are WAY more likely to take their husband’s name than libs…and to get married in the first place.

So if anything this could turn out to be a GOP own goal.

If it wasn’t ridiculously bad legislation it would kind of be fun to watch them shoot themselves in the face.

Or a birth certificate. But the birth certificate better be in the same name which means all those married women need to have updated theirs.
When REAL ID became a thing I went thru the process of making sure all my documents of record were the same exact name. Interesting process to say the least

Conservative women SHOULD be exempt from this law.

You don't "update" a birth certificate,.. Married women with a changed surname would simply need to present both a birth certificate and marriage certificate at voter registration,... Birth certificate confirms citizenship, marriage certificate confirms name change and connects birth certificate to her current ID.

83%...... Even a dumbass like you should realize it is a lot of percent.
Yes, but this percentage doesn't reflect approval of the SAVE Act, ONLY Voter ID. A dumbass is someone who repeatedly cites a poll that doesn't reflect the point he's trying to make. How many times does it take for you to either understand this simple point or to stop intentionally lying to the board?

It's not even three months, too. Earliest voting starts in the middle of September. Essentially they would only have less than 2 months.

My wife went to the precinct that she has voted in for all of her life in 2020 (I was there with her. She was over 40 at the time).

She had to cast a provisional ballot because they couldn't find her on the voter rolls. There are holes in these systems.

It needs to be addressed.
