Sounds like he’s been a disappointment so far. Hasn’t made the leap they thought he would. Heck, they recruited his brother just to keep him happy
I’m not following your logic. Wouldn’t the fact that they brought his brother in suggest the opposite?

When coaches go to such extra lengths to make a player happy, it’s generally for ones they really like, not disappointments.

I’m as positive, maybe even gullible at times, when it comes to Kentucky basketball.
I’ve heard the same thing, Hawthorne is not ready at this point to make an impact. He’s an end of the bench player, nothing more.
Where in SC you at? I’m in SC too

Typical uk fans who want it both ways. Wanted to be done with one and dones. Wanted players to stick around and develop and play 3-4 years. Now that it’s happening people complaining about the talent not being there. Just relax and wait to see what guys do before freaking out.

Oh cool, the fan police. I’m so glad you guys showed up.

Jesus. I want to see the team actually play before drawing conclusions. His shot looks a little better than I expected, and he's definitely put on some weight. Hawthorne and Uzi N'Diaye are ones to watch. If you get better than expected production from those two, it changes things.

Outside Charleston, originally from Paducah, I’ve been here since 1990
Lived downtown in Charleston for a bit, then a place on Daniel Island. Still visit a couple times a year. It's definitely changed since I first got there (2009) but a lot has stayed the same in the Harleston Village area. Miss the place everyday to some degree, really. Enjoy!

Im not sure how good Hawthorne will end up being but I will say, that spin move dunk at the beginning of the video wasn’t that of a 6’8” guy. He’s grown.
He’s not a 1 or 2 dribble 6 8 forward. Can dribble and both shoot and arttack the rim. Long. Going to keep getting stronger as he matures. Has multiple tools. Could even help at SG. Finding his best position will be interesting.
I’m guessing he’s close to a 5 star fr after his redshirt year. Nice he can ease in. We will need him as Williams heals. Think he might be better in time.
I’ve watched Hawthorne in practice and he’s got a shot. Can hit that 3. Score in the lane. Maturity will help him a bunch. BTW his little brother can scoot and really handle the ball.

Got a body like Prince, I'd be elated for half of his production

Just woke up and chose negativity, huh.

I have heard the opposite. Total wet blanket vibes from you.
It's been on KSR multiple times the last couple weeks. Multiple people who have been at the practices and workouts have talked about how he hasn't looked very good. Zoom, Wilkens, McBride and...there was one more that most mentioned as looking very good.

All has come out in the last week or two. Brother was brought in long before summer work. Evidently he hasn't looked great this summer.

And you know this how?
Goose, Tom Leach...there was one other that was referenced on KSR. Obviously the KSR guys talk to the people that have been at practice and workouts. They've talked about the guys that have looked good and those that haven't. It has been brought up multiple times that the staff seems a little concerned about the 3 spot. Kam is walking wounded and BH hasn't looked good. Doesn't mean he can't or won't turn it around. Also doesn't mean that Kam won't be healthy. But I'd say there's genuine cause for concern. A dude that couldn't get on the roster last year isn't looking good and another dude that could use the offseason work isn't getting any because he's hurt. It's fluid, so it could all change. But to pretend it isn't real is a little misinformed and silly.

Those no world that dude could play the 2 against good teams. None. He'll be lucky to be able to handle and guard well enough to play the 3, much less the 2.

I never acted like he dunked on Shaq, I was “referencing” his growth. Looks taller than 6’8”.
Idk...when you're 6'8" and have a HUGE wingspan, you're not getting off the ground much to dunk it. They really haven't mentioned any growth with him, and lord knows we've all heard plenty of tales about offseason growth and body reshaping. He looks like he's put on maybe 15 lbs or so. Keep in mind he's basically wearing a flak jacket in the videos we've seen.

Sorry, but I'm sure you had no idea when he was recruited that he actually weighed around 165. The staff new he was extremely talented but would redshirt to gain weight. Now he's grown a inch or so and is close to 200 lbs.. He'll need time to get use to his new body but you just don't discourage a talent like him. He hasn't played a college basketball game, lets give him time to adjust, by mid season he'll be a whole different player.

Worried too much about an underweight end of the bench project player whose best basketball is still a year or two ahead of him. He's still a 6ft 8in rail thin athlete who needs to put on another 10-15 pounds of muscle to be able to play in the SEC. Can he continue to add bulk without sacrificing his athletic ability and grow his game. That certainly won't be established during this season. He needs time and patience to continue to develop.

In the frontcourt alone he's the 7th option. Add in the 5 backcourt players in front of him and you are talking about the 12th man. As was mentioned he weighed something like 165-170 pounds when he got here. At 6ft 8 and 195 pounds he's still about 15-16 pounds behind typical 1st and 2nd round small forwards weight. Unlike most guys anyone would mention though, those guys would have played on their frames for years while BH is just over the last 12 months coming in to what is basically a new body. He has to adjust to how his body moves, jumps, absorbs contact, changes to muscle memory and balance, etc;.

I think this is a fair evaluation. I’d like to be wrong and Hawthorne is a POY candidate, but I just don’t see it. He has a good core group of guys to learn from. I just hope he stays with us and we see his development.
