Is capitalism failing these people that badly?
"These people" are doing fine. Kaitlyn Collins is doing great under capitalism. Chevalier who has made a career as a community organizer and race baiter is now worth about $1 million. They make a lot of money by convincing people that their poor quality of life is because other people have screwed them over.

Really? Are they wanting the government to take control over production and all property?
Chevalier called on the government to nationalize industries and “seize all properties from landlords (in spite of the fact that her father is a landlord). In her social media posts she literally called on government to seize the means of production. She also famously said “A world without borders—just like a world without prisons or police—is possible, necessary, and the only moral way forward.”

I’m no DSA defender as you hopefully know from our exchanges. But can you point out where she calls for getting rid of the Declaration of Independence in this clip? I didn’t hear anything remotely like that.

There is plenty of ammo to post from DSA folks saying dumba$$ things. So why post stuff that doesn’t say what you claim it says?

Your party is turning communist because of TDS.
A lot of people are struggling with affordability but that's been a growing problem for decades. The better paying factory jobs moved offshore and now people expect to raise a family on a fast food salary. The problem is further exacerbated by inflation caused by out of control government spending that's been supported by money printing and debt. The country has dug a pretty deep hole and neither party has a plan to climb out because that would require short term sacrifices.

It doesn't help that the race baiters have become reenergized and this time they've found new allies among immigrants and LGBTQIA+. A lot of politicians feed off of that. Race discrimination, sex discrimination, corporate greed, toxic masculinity, white supremacy, rich people, etc are blamed instead of developing a credible plan to deal with issues. More redistribution has become the rallying cry over personal responsibility.

It was solid in 2024 and is a little less so now. Again, Trump was handed a strong economy.
It depends on what you call a strong economy. Biden inherited an economy that was flush with covid money and a lot of pent up demand. Then he added another $4 trillion of additional spending on top of it (American rescue plan $1.9 trillion, infrastructure law $550 billion, Chips and science act $280 billion, Inflation reduction Act $1.2 trillion).

The federal debt rose sharply and inflation took off but yes consumer spending was strong, the stock market was strong, and unemployment was low. The problem is it all came at a heavy cost.

Editorial: Centrist Democrats must not let ‘democratic socialists’ take over their party without a fight

Good Luck!!!

https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/editorial-centrist-democrats-must-not-100000883.html
democrats are setting themselves up for major problems. They're making a big mistake by allowing DSA members to run as democrats. The DSA is a separate party. They had their own convention, own platform and will caucus together. And depending on the democrat's majority they - the DSA - will be able to extract small - at first - concessions from the democrats in order to get passage of democrats priorities.

If there democrats were smart, they'd exclude DSA from the party, because separately they would win fewer elections. But, democrats want the majority and will "sell their souls" to the DSA to get it. This is how it begins..

Republicans would sell their souls too to keep the majority. Politics is a dirty business

so we give free housing...that should make everyone who owns a home feel really good about their investments....

and who pays for the free healthcare, food, education, transportation? We already know that if you tax billionaires 100% of their income, that won't go very far,

Will anyone who interviews these party leaders ask for just a simple math analysis of the costs and revenues We currently spend, according to estimates, about $3.23 trillion on non Medicaid/Medicare healthcare annually. We take in about $5.2 trillion in revenue. That doesn't leave much for all the other free stuff...but then again we're going to raise taxes to pay for all the free stuff. The total annual payroll in the US, according to BLS is $11,7 trillion.

So we need $trillions more for free education, housing, food and transportation. So we should be able to develop a tax table to show how much each taxpayer will pay for these free services.

The DSA plan goes a lot further than any current "socialist" nation. So we might well see tax rates much higher than 50% for any of the highest earners...and that's before SSAN or state taxes or sales taxes.

This is exactly what the GOP should have done w MAGA. Instead, the party got hijacked by Trump & extremists, & now there is no traditional republican party. I think, in general, if people tried one extreme(MAGA) & things haven't improved, they're more likely to vote for the opposite.

This- I know I shouldn't be surprised by 'both sides Ned' anymore but he mentioned 'Republicans would sell their soul to keep the majority too.'

Um, they sold their souls to Maga in 2015 to win at any cost and haven't looked back. It's already been done

Biden inherited an economy that was just coming out of the global supply chain crunch/recession and inflation was already rising steadily as a result.

Trump inherited strong/stable economies both times and then promptly took credit for both.

"It depends on what you call a strong economy"

Record low unemployment, record high stock market (MAGAs' favorite metric), low inflation. solid GDP etc... going by the normal metrics for measuring the health of the economy.

The debt has risen steadily for decades. Trump added 8 trillion to it in his first term alone.

LOL talk about revisionist history. Biden inherited a YoY CPI of 1.4% and drove it to over 9.1% by mid 2022, nearly half way through his presidency. He inherited a surging stock market that was rebounding to pre shut down levels. Sleepy joe then steered us into a recession, attempted to gas light people on what a recession is by attempting to change the long held definition (peak cope). In contrast trump inherited a cratering stock market that was down thousands of points in biden's closing months and has since seen repeat stock market records and shrinking inflation (last report was fantastic!)

Inflation was 1.4% in January 2021 when Biden took office. It peaked at 9% a year and a half later. Supply chain disruptions certainly had an impact but you're dead wrong to suggest that $4 trillion of above and beyond spending didn't add fuel to the inflation fire and materially add to the debt.

Of course Trump took credit for anything positive and blamed the other guy for everything negative. It's B.S. but every president does it. That's politics.

I don't take your claim that "Trump" added $8 trillion to the deficit seriously. That was primarily due to covid and democrats who controlled congress had a major hand in all that spending. Like Rahm Emanuel said "never let a disaster go to waste". Heck, democrats lost their minds when Trump allowed covid era enhanced healthcare subsidies to expire in 2026. I've been very clear that the USA spend twice as much on Covid than what was necessary but it was clearly a bipartisan effort.

Biden didn't have record low unemployment but he did have low unemployment. Here are some (December) unemployment figures:
  • 2017 4.7% (Obama's last year)
  • 2018 3.9%
  • 2019 3.6%
  • 2020 6.7% (pandemic)
  • 2021 3.9% (Biden's first year)
  • 2022 3.5%
  • 2023 3.8%
  • 2024 4.1% (Biden's last year)
  • 2025 4.4% (Trump's first year
  • 2026 4.2% (June 2026)
I'd say the unemployment rate has been pretty stable and historically low over the past decade. In fact total payroll employment is currently at an all time high (as it should be with a growing population).

Of course the debt has risen steadily for decades. That was going to happen regardless of who was president. Politicians get elected by promising free stuff and they lose elections by threatening to take free stuff away. Also as Reagan said the closest thing to eternal life on earth is a government program. Once you've added something it's nearly impossible to take it away. Those are major flaws in our system. That said there are events that add to the debt more than normal. The financial crisis, Covid, and Biden's extra $4 trillion are all examples. Once those things were done the spending never came back to pre crisis levels even when accounting for inflation.

Federal deficit:
2022 1.375 trillion (first year post covid)
2023 1.695 trillion
2024 1.833 trillion
2025 1.850 trillion (First year of Trump second term)
2026 TBD but I expect higher because of war and refunded tariffs

I think you'd be better served by looking at things objectively instead of limiting yourself to democrats = good and republicans = bad.

Commies are invading the Democrat Party.

Yep. A Socialist from Peru, bringing his sh&t from another country. So, why did your family leave Peru, Gustavo Gordillo? Studied radical Latin American theatre. Lmao. A direct result, like Mamdani, of the tutelage of Bernie Sanders.

Now, everyone from Maher, to Jeffries, Pelosi, Fetterman, and even Quomo, are now going after the Socialists and Communists in their party. Of course, like men in women's sports, this also is not happening. What a joke of a party.

if you're connecting it specifically to inflation, I don't think it's fair or accurate to discuss spe ding bills without the time frames associated with them.

the inflation reduction act was passed mid 2022, right after inflation had already peaked. I don't know if it reduced inflation directly, but its hard to argue it caused any inflation, as it was back to 3(ish)% range with a year of the bill's passage.

The infrastructure bill (IIJA) was a spending bill spread out over the next 5 federal fiscal years. And even then, DOTs have up to 4 years after the money is "programmed" on a project before any money is actually being spent. The vast majority of the funding provided is the IIJA came well after inflation had peaked.
