I'm going to start calling in holding penalties to the B1G office during live games. I hope to get the same results.
Kziner on nbc just said it best. Where was the walking official. His job to remind him that he is in penalty area etc. he is no where near there.

I agree, but I also thought he should have flat out said the ruling was what it was - a really, really bad ruling. Historically bad, you can say.
Bryson did not cheat. Even the R & A said it was accidental. Burn yourself.
I prefer Scottish courses by far over all in the UK. That said, when guys are shooting 62 like it's 65 and the leader is still only -9, I have to give credit.
I judge majors by just that, how many guys are within 6 or 7 shots at this point. So good job Birkdale.

He or his caddie should have at least been aware that walking around like that was going to be dicey or not within the rules or at least be questionable. To be totally clueless about a rule like that especially when playing a British Open links course that has that fescue all over is inexcusable.
If you trample down or walk back and forth on that tall fescue right around where you are hitting (stance, back swing, follow through) or at least have it bend a little so it is not standing as straight and rigid then it is improving your lie.
Just like the penalty on the Swiss striker was absolutely necessary. Rules are rules!!

Agree…his poor decision put himself in the position to have it called. But don’t like the fact that the same actions likely go unchecked for the 120 “non-stars” in the field because no one sees it.
I have no doubt that it would have also been called on Rory. The issue is that it wouldn’t have been called on Eric Cole or Jake Knapp.
His poor decision was trying to figure out which direction to hit it and going through a pre-shot routine? I'm lining my shot up if I have to step over corn stalks, sorry.

You actually don't and can't. That's the whole point, you hit a bad shot and now have a bad lie so you have to deal with the consequences which include altering your pre-shot routine. That's like saying my pre-shot routine is to ground the club behind the ball so I grounded it in the bunker. What's the big deal?
Fair point. If no one sees it to call it then they can't call it. What if someone in the gallery recorded it and alerts the rules official then I think they could do something but not sure.
