What gets momentum to get passed doesn't always (usually?) accurately reflect public sentiment. Particularly when "for the children" comes into play.

Except for the dumbassses in Congress and absolute morons, everyone knows that STANDARD time is the healthier and more productive choice over DST.

Everything the schools do is backward. Heck now you got the football coaches doing practices at like 6 am too, I bet the kids are real fresh for that.
Never understood what sense that made. Football games are played almost exclusively at night in high school.
I assume they’re just trying to avoid practicing in full summer heat. Is that not right??

How about, practice in early afternoon and night. You know, when the games are played.
Allowing kids to get about 4-5 sleep is so much better than practicing in the heat, to many people I suppose. They have heat acclimation periods. Drive some water and move on.

I dont think they are letting states decide. The pending bill says states or areas of states that have already opted out of DST can remain on standard time. Everyone else will go to full time DST.

Early morning practices...
- help avoid practicing in heat.
- reduces cancelled practices.
- logistically frees up the field for other sports and activities in the afternoon and evening.
- might simply be when coaches are available.
To be clear, I hate early morning practices as a parent and a coach.
The lack of sleep is brutal on kids.
And the inequity is glaring- it screws over kids who rely on bus transport and kids who get siblings ready for school. Those kids end up coming late, or missing practice, or having to scramble and bum rides.
I was curious with all the talk about how wildly unpopular it was in 1974. Obviously northern states would definitely be more against it with later colder sunrises. The power was in the Northern states back then. Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, NY, and Penn was 140 electoral votes. 2028 it’s 98. In 1974 Florida, Georgia, NC, TX, and California was 113. In 2028 it’s 156.
I was in high school when they did this. Absolutely everyone hated it. You got up earlier in the pitch black and cold. Then there wasn't much up side in the afternoon. The sun still goes down pretty early. And it's still WINTER. The supposed extra hour of daylight really doesn't help you.
It does where I live. I have to cut grass well into December sometimes. I also could hit the driving range for an hour after work. Again I realize a lot of people and maybe even the majority will not like it but I would. My office window is huge and when I am working at 4:45 and it’s dark outside I’m mentally done for the day.
They do it here to stagger the buses. Traffic here is bad enough, if all the different elementary middle and high school buses were running at the same time as well as parent drop offs it would be significantly worse.
I’m hoping for standard time for the same reason. I go to the gym before work. I don’t want to get up at what is really 3:45 because of savings time.
Perhaps my viewpoint is clouded being in Madison as little Timmy cannot ride a school bus here lest his seat be less comfy than the Range Rover or perhaps he might learn a curse word.

I saw a meme that I did not cut and paste here but it does influence my thoughts on this. Permanent Daylight Savings was already tried.

Of Florida goes DST year round, when you come back from a Florida bowl and it’s 1:30 just west of Tallahassee, when you get to Ponce De Leon it will be 1:30 and when you get to the Alabama it will be 1:45. 188 miles in 15 minutes! Of course the other way will take 4 hours.
