I dropped my oldest off in Ames for ISU’s volleyball camp. I can’t believe I let her first college experience be Ames. I promised it’s the worst campus she’ll visit in her college search. I’m the worst mom.
I’m sad you are correct and that ISU is better than Iowa. If ISU starts recruiting her, I may cry.To be fair, Iowa State's volleyball program is a hell of a lot better than the bottom feeding program in Iowa City.

Do they still have that restraining order in place against you?To be fair, Iowa State's volleyball program is a hell of a lot better than the bottom feeding program in Iowa City.
We mostly use the ACT here. Those scores are probably for out of state attendees that go to lAmes to learn how to farm.Average SAT for admission at Iowa St: 1240
Average SAT admission at Iowa: 1195
I'd say either option is rather abusive.
Average ACT for admission at Iowa St: 24 (SAT comparative 1180) ... average SAT is 1240We mostly use the ACT here. Those scores are probably for out of state attendees that go to lAmes to learn how to farm.
The SAT is almost irrelevant in Iowa. Heck, the ACT is becoming almost irrelevant. I think you just have to take it as long as your grades are in the top half of your class.Average SAT for admission at Iowa St: 1240

They play football.Average ACT for admission at Iowa St: 24 (SAT comparative 1180) ... average SAT is 1240
Average ACT admission at Iowa: 21 (SAT comparative 1080) ... average SAT is 1195
So, you might be correct ... the smarter out-of-staters are submitting SAT scores.
If you score a 1080 on your SAT (or 21 ACT), do you have to wear a helmet on campus at all times, for your own safety?
Both schools are junior colleges. Don't fool yourselves. In state applicants can get in with a pulse.Average ACT for admission at Iowa St: 24 (SAT comparative 1180) ... average SAT is 1240

Like usual you smear the whole university for a single fault you perceive, but yes, if you are in state and get decent grades and have a poor to decent ACT, you can get an auto-admit to get in the front door of the university in general. It does not get you direct admission into any college, such as business, engineering, nursing, etc., as those colleges have much higher standards. So, after getting in the front door, what degree you can obtain is up to your college performance. Both schools are junior colleges. Don't fool yourselves. In state applicants can get in with a pulse.
Much higher? Umm no. I got into engineering with 0 effort. It isn't mensa.Like usual you smear the whole university for a single fault you perceive, but yes, if you are in state and get decent grades and have a poor to decent ACT, you can get an auto-admit to get in the front door of the university in general. What I took exception to was characterizing a big ten school as community college, which is silly. With that being said, there are no minimum ACT standards to get into Iowa, in general. The RAI formula is based on high school GPA, the number of high school courses you completed in qualifying areas, and your ACT. You can have a high gpa with lots of qualifying classes, and still get in with a low ACT score. Nursing and business colleges I believe require a 26 ACT. I am not saying that is objectively high, but it is much higher than having no required score.Much higher? Umm no. I got into engineering with 0 effort. It isn't mensa.
Having a bad day?I dropped my oldest off in Ames for ISU’s volleyball camp. I can’t believe I let her first college experience be Ames. I promised it’s the worst campus she’ll visit in her college search. I’m the worst mom.
That’s b.ullshit and you know it.Both schools are junior colleges. Don't fool yourselves. In state applicants can get in with a pulse.
The other ones you listed are tougher and we take their discards also. That’s b.ullshit and you know it.
The iowa board of regents purposefully keep all three state schools accessible to in state graduates at low cost and low entrance requirements because it’s a low population state.
You can get a world class education from amazing professors at Iowa the same way you can at Wisconsin or Illinois or any other quality Big 10 school.
Tougher to get in to, sure. The other ones you listed are tougher and we take their discards also.
I'll take ridiculous but it's my hope they raise standards. Lot of kids don't belong at Iowa and many drop out.Tougher to get in to, sure.
Not a huge difference in quality of education - and Iowa much better in several disciplines (creative writing, physical therapy, nursing, etc.)
Top 25 public law, medicine and business schools.
Equating that to “junior college” is ludicrous and makes you sound ridiculous and/or embittered.
They will not - they have decided their niche is “accessible excellence” and areI'll take ridiculous but it's my hope they raise standards. Lot of kids don't belong at Iowa and many drop out.
Not surprised you applied to the Se.men Center.Much higher? Umm no. I got into engineering with 0 effort. It isn't mensa.
How tall is she? Or maybe she is a libero?I’m sad you are correct and that ISU is better than Iowa. If ISU starts recruiting her, I may cry.
You don’t think there is a role for “average” four year institutions? Not everyone who can get into elite schools can afford to go to them. Nor should they have to. A degree from Iowa will give you plenty of preparation for numerous careers. Now, some specialized role that requires a towering intellect? Sure, you won’t find as many at Iowa as you will at Harvard. But you will find some. And for most careers, you simply don’t need the fancier school.I'll take ridiculous but it's my hope they raise standards. Lot of kids don't belong at Iowa and many drop out.
A lot of kids don’t belong in college period. It’s much easier to fake now with online and AI.I'll take ridiculous but it's my hope they raise standards. Lot of kids don't belong at Iowa and many drop out.
I agree with this. As a tax payer, I like emphasized accessibility to the public university. Like most things in life, it is what you make of an opportunity once you have it. If someone does not belong once they get there, they will get weeded out. They will not - they have decided their niche is “accessible excellence” and are
Leaning into it.
Frankly, in the current economic and societal conditions - with a looming enrollment cliff - it’s a smart position to take.
And I believe 4 year retention rate was recently at around 92% so it’s simply not true that “many” students drop Out.
I agree with this. I would hate to teach these days.A lot of kids don’t belong in college period. It’s much easier to fake now with online and AI.
unless they’re are proctored exams at the end to prove you know your stuff I am skeptical of most degrees now. It’s just the world we live in.
More importantly, is she hot?How tall is she? Or maybe she is a libero?
UNI is pretty good but even they don’t seem to care how good somebody is unless they are of a certain height.
A bit off subject, but maybe relevant to this comment...Zach Lahn campaigning on only allowing Mississippi North residents into State Universities and no out of Staters. The other ones you listed are tougher and we take their discards also.

No one listens to you, pedant. Ya boring. This is an example of poor "creative writing."
No one listens to you, pedant. Ya boring.
Guy who tried to prove a point by noting that Iowa is not, in fact, comparable to a junior college is calling someone else a "pedant." Guy who did so by, himself, stating factual inaccuracies, is an absolute idiot. University of Iowa is not ranked in the top 25 in business or law schools, per US News ... and it's "top 25" medical school status is indeterminate, but unlikely, given that it's Tier 2 in Research, but Tier 3 in Primary Care.
