I’ll give Pope this class to prove overall the things have changed. He’s started to pull a couple elite-ish guys lately. I never expects Spears TBH, Rosser we may have a shot at. I’ll let it play out, but as you know I agree with you on most of this stuff. This season and recruiting direction will make or break Pope coming up anyway.
Luckily if the contract and personal life align up at least our AD has a relationship with Oats. I could see us having a legit shot to snag him now.

Most of these guys never heard of M Spears 45 days ago. Now, the sky is falling because he went to Texas. Gimme a break.
Well, he did the same thing at Arizona, before NIL. They were never hurting for talent. He had 8 top 10 classes in 12 years & another class ranked #11. So, he’s at least a big part of it. The Texas $ & resources definitely help. But, Miller has recruited at a high level for a while & without the benefit of big $, outspending everyone else. He’s not the best in-game coach, IMO. But, he’s an elite recruiter.
improving your roster/program has no off season. there are teams right now looking at potential portal targets for next year and speaking to their agents to get things lined up for when/if it happens. you either work or get worked.
right now uk will be picked 15-20 to start the season and 5th or 6th in the SEC. thats not the standard. its not misery, its just stating facts unless the standard has changed. uk had a few opportunities to improve its roster and its ceiling for the upcoming season. pope failed at that. the losses on the court and off continue to pile up.
you cant expect fans to be cool with it.

In 12 seasons there he missed the tournament 5 times and Arizona was involved in the 2017 basketball scandal where they offered $100k+ to Nassir Little. Yeah, I don't want that guy anywhere near here.
How many of the top-10 guys out of HS will be better than Milo this year? If you’re evaluating a one-year contract for either a top-10 HS player or the literal best shooter in college basketball, give me the shooter unless we’re talking about an Anthony Davis type.
KU is close to KC. You need to compare KC to Lexington and KC has professional sports and much better restaurants, especially BBQ.
He's recruited well at Xavier. He got Dailyn Swain at Xavier who went to Texas with him and was a recent first round draft choice. And he got Ryan Conwell at Xavier who transferred to Louisville.
Your opinion. Maybe sample some more restaurants. Some international chefs have even settled and opened up fusion style restaurants incorporating babrbeque.Maybe go tailgating at a Chiefs game with the smokers in the parking lot at 6 am.
5th would be an improvement but I’m leaning more toward the middle of the pack again. We are going to be a very bad defensive team for a coach who sucks at teaching defense.

This is Popes shot at making us tops in the SEC and a deep run in the tourney. His butt is in the line and he knows it.

Elite Defensively under Pope, no. Above average under Pope, actually yes surprisingly.
25-26 - KenPom ranked 28th Nationally defensively. Verses 40th Nationally ranked Offense.
24-25 - KenPom ranked 51st Nationally defensively. Verses 10th Nationally ranked Offense.
Defense improved, Offense declined, SEC finish declined, NCAA seeding declined, finished one game shorter in the NCAA tournament. One could argue from that small sample size, UK plays better and has a better season when the Offense is better than the defense and defense is less important if you have a good offense. Though neither season met the standard. And neither was even close to where we need to be if we want to see consistent success. But that argument falls apart when you consider the following...
For instance Florida was 2nd Offensively and 6th Defensively on their way to the title in 2025. And all of the 1 seeds in the tournament were ranked 12th or higher in both Offense and Defense.
Michigan was 4th Offensively and #1 Defensively on their way to the title in 2026. And all of the #1 seeds were ranked at least 9th or higher in both Offense and Defense.
We need to be Elite on both sides of the ball to get where we need to go.

I never said I wanted him, lol. I also said I don’t think he’s a great in-game coach. I was just saying he can recruit. That scandal is where it all fell apart. But, everybody was doing the same thing. He just got caught. But, I don’t want him here, either. No denying the recruiting results, though.
Some of you guys got totally mind warped by Calipari. That a guy who loses 14 games, can't recruit, and gets embarrassed by agents on a daily basis is praised, because he recruits eastern Kentucky, brings back cool jerseys, and says in the presser "we're gonna play for the name on the chest". Gets a mental lifetime contract from some of you. Because he's the "anti-Calipari".
