For those, like me, who had to look up "Flock Camera":

A Flock camera is a specialized AI-powered Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) manufactured by Flock Safety. These roadside cameras automatically capture and catalog the license plates, make, model, color, and unique vehicle features of passing cars, creating a searchable database used by law enforcement and private communities to investigate crimes

They're also popping up all over biking/hiking trails in communities too. They're not just for vehicle information.

Thanks, AlaskaNole. I had no idea what a Flock Camera was. I wish they didn't exist at all. The can serve a useful purpose (every bridge in the Bay Area uses them to record the license plate and other information for cars as they pass the Bridge toll gates, which largely eliminates the need to employ humans to collect bridge tolls (and therefore saves money), but the potential for spying and abuse by law enforcement and other public agencies (FBI, CIA, NSA, and DIA, just to name a few) is just too much to tolerate. These weasels already engage in wholesale warrantless (and illegal) surveillance on a 24/7/365 basis, so anything that hinders their ability to do so is a good thing, in my book. Bringing back public toll takers is a small price to pay.

In light of the Carpenter, Jones, and Chatrie SCOTUS decisions, Flock cameras are going to be a legal headache for a lot of local governments very soon.

The people saying there's no expectation of privacy in public are only partially correct. Government agencies can't conduct surveillance without a warrant, and capturing all of your movements does just that. The people saying that Flock cameras are private need to read the Chatrie opinion. Private companies can no longer be used as proxies to skirt the Constitution.

There is a growing list of people being arrested for faulty Flock / AI related misidentifications. There is a growing number of abuses by law enforcement personnel stalking people using Flock data.

I opened the thread figuring I was going to read about a camera mounted on a sheepdog guarding the flock, only to find out it was his neighbor stealing or raping his sheep. The more you know...

Are they going to start issuing tickets to people who don’t yell “on your left” before passing fellow pedestrians?
I had a guy yell that one time when he was passing me, I was all the way on the right side, and once he got by me he stopped, turned around, and yelled at me for not "acknowledging" him. He was upset that I didn't say something back, or give him a wave, or something. That was a new one for me. Guessing if he's married, his wife hates him.
