Just watched it…no way is it on Lindor. He has to be the one to go after it until he hears the CF. Basic pop up rules. Taylor either called late or not loud enough. Lindor did the only thing he could.

It should have been Taylor's play, but the defense has been questionable all year. I trust Lindor to make that play more than anyone else in the field. Lindor is a better fielder than what the Mets have been running out there of late.
How far must the entire organization sink, from the minors to scouting to the front office to the major league team before Stearns gets canned? I mean "Come on Man"!!!!!
I posted this before … Sam Mitchell NBA radio stated players get cut as soon organization thinks they’re no good , coaches get fired after one year if you see it’s just not there . He just doesn’t understand why GM’s in every sport are allowed to be awful for 4-5 years before anything is done. After 4-5-6 bad moves why in the world would you let the GM make bad decisions number 7-8-9. A horrible GM who is allowed to hang around can ruin a franchise for 10+ years.
here is the thing- SS is always going for that ball until he hears the CF call him off- there is no other player on the field allowed to call him off. Lindor and Taylor have been around long enough as elite fielding these positions. Anyone that thinks it's anything except that Lindor did not hear him- doesn't matter if Taylor was loud enough or not- If Lindor heard him earlier- he would have laid off- he just did not hear him- and as soon as he did- he had no choice except try to avoid a collision.
These things happen- it sucks- but you really are talking about 2 guys that play together and are very good at their positions.
I re-watched the play, and Taylor was playing deep. He covered a lot of ground, and even if Lindor had stopped sooner, I still think Taylor would have had a tough time making a clear play. Taylor is lunging for the ball to catch it. Lindor would have camped under the ball for a routine flyout in shallow centerfield. I'm not blaming either player. I blamed the lack of coaching for the little league plays happening regularly. People may not have liked Showalter, but his teams were fundamentally sound. They didn't beat themselves. This team can't afford to give away runs and expect to win.
The only good thing about the game was that Smoltz wasn't in the booth. Guy knows his stuff but can't shut up. IMO
I follow Mets minor league prospects fairly closely. But today they brought up somebody I never heard of. Guillo Zuniga, a 27 year old Colombian RHP with 15 MLB appearances. He threw an inning for Colombia in the WBC and gave up four runs.

Vientos should not be allowed to challenge calls. He doesn't have an eye for it, just like his hitting. He's wasting challenges that may be more important later in the game.
I agree that this is the worse run prevention team in the league. My point and based on what you saw as well- this was most likely a Taylor mistake. CF has the rights to any ball in the air- no one over rules them. SS has 2nd rights. Lindor has to go hard for the ball until and only until tge CF calls him off. In this case- Taylor should have just allowed Lindor to get it.
When interviewed AJ Ewing asked about the ninth inning comeback. Said something like….we were just playing defense. Well that would be nice for a change. Basics. Throw to 2nd to keep runner at 1st not advance to 2nd. We have pitcher that act like they have never attempted to throw to first on a pickoff. Don’t get me started on the “celebration”. Sit your a**es down, stop grinning. Embarrassed being Met fan.
Answer me this. Say the situation were reversed. Mets down seven, score six in ninth, winning run on 2nd, but LOSE.
Would you (or anyone on this board) feel good about it? Great comeback? Moral victory? Of course not. So why lament a win of ANY sort? Lord knows there's been precious few of them.
Easy answer. Many ways of celebrating a victory. In this case get off the field and talk about it in the clubhouse. Still 16 games under .500. If this win was near the end of the season and we needed it to make the playoffs by all means celebrate your a**es off. Time and place

There's a time and place for everything. This was neither.
Yesterday was the first Mets game I've watched since probably April or May. Meaning I watched all 9. Wasn't watching tonight but then turned it on in the bottom of the 10th to see them hang on again. Always enjoy any win over the Braves. If only the team had played as well against others as they now lead the Braves 4-3 in the season series.
Curious on thoughts and guesses on how this team gets better for the future. I am sure it is obvious we are going to be selling. But, except for relief pitchers- I don't see any of our players moving our organization needle if we do trade them.

Peralta - His salary is reasonable but he has been bad and he would only be a rental

Vientos- addition by subtraction- but no value
Alvarez - hmmmmm, he may actually have some value
Any of the kids like McLean, Scott, Ewing, Benge- they shouldn't even be discussed.
The other kids- well- they all seem to suck right now.
Semien- injured but his pricetag and suckiness gets you nothing
Our minor league system is now depleted; out major league team just sucks. How can the Organization get back to where it was even just 2 years ago where it looked like it was locked into a 10 year run of really good seasons coming up?

Luke Weaver is basically the only real trade piece the Mets have that might return something of value
Stearns is operating like a small market GM/president. The Mets are in full rebuild regardless of any trades. No one wants to admit that, but that looks to be the case. Any replacements for Peralta, Alvarez, etc. are either not in the pipeline or not close to being MLB-ready.
the ironic thing- let's say the Met's had kept Nimmo/McNeil and signed Pete...and they had fallen out of it already. They would actually be in a much better place to haul in top prospects for these guys than anyone else.
I feel bad for Lugo, but damn. I didn't think there was a team worse than the Mets.
