A 14 - 15 player team is definitely deep enough to play an up tempo full court defense game. This UK teams appears to have the quickness to play this style. What do you all think.
Teams that are winning ships aren't playing 15 deep.A 14 - 15 player team is definitely deep enough to play an up tempo full court defense game.
This is the best answer. Teams have more ball handlers and better spacing than the 1990s. Pressing is now used more as a change of pace or to slow the game down a little, rather than the aggressive style Pitino used back then. We might sprinkle a tiny bit of it in, but don’t expect to see it much.Situationally fine, but even Pitino went away from it
Agree there are several valid reasons as to why a full court press has gone the way of the underhand free throw, but it sure was fun to watch while it lasted. More specifically, it was that Pitino press that was as exciting to watch as the offense. What a great era in UK basketballUnfortunately the press is something college coaches have decided to bury and throw extra dirt on top. Unless they’re down 10 with 2 to play.
But it was fun while it lasted.
Few teams are that specific flavor of bad anymore either though.I think you can only effectively press bad teams now. Most players are so skilled that even attempting to press is probably going to put you in a disadvantage
I think teams can be caught off guard with it, but if it was used throughout games then it'd be adjusted to pretty easily. Might be able to use it early for a short period for the same reason, to catch opponents off guard.People say a full court press won't work anymore, but when a desperate team does it the last 2 minutes of a game, it leads to a lot of turnovers.
It was the sixth man that really made it hard to score against it.It was the 1-2-1-1 press and Pitino went away from it after his second season at UK. He used a 2-2-1-1 to speed up the game when he got more talented players who could execute in the half court but it was used more for tempo than his first two years at UK and at Providence when he had less talented teams and had to gamble more.
With these kids making millions you can’t run them into the ground or be hard on them. They will decide to go somewhere easy. We have already seen kids pack it in for the draft mid season. Coaches can’t press because coaches can’t condition kids hard anymore. Once you get to the NBA. It’s performance or your out. In college you are paying for his name. lol.A 14 - 15 player team is definitely deep enough to play an up tempo full court defense game.
Does anybody regularly press anymore ??This UK teams appears to have the quickness to play this style. What do you all think.
