I disagree, but how would that apply to a school district. Seems like you are saying their is a tiered system of separation.
A public school district is an arm of government, same as if the State of Texas required it.

But it’s not debatable that there were state religions in this country. The 1st Amendment did not mandate separation of church and state.
Religion and god(s). The scourge of our planet. The single biggest crutch ever created by the human mind. Keep it the f*ck out of schools.
It's adorable this hayseed thinks he knows more about the law and Constitution than a lawyer. This feels like when people come in with their Drs. Google and tiktok diagnoses.Of course it did - to the federal government as of 1787, and to the states as of 1868.
*CitizensTypical MAGA, sees thread about.....anything and immediately talks about transfolks*.
DO you believe in "gender medicine," doc? It's adorable this hayseed thinks he knows more about the law and Constitution than a lawyer. This feels like when people come in with their Drs. Google and tiktok diagnoses.
Your stance is that the federal government had separation, but the states did not until 1868. School Districts are a local governmental agency, not part of federal or state. So therefore they would not be bound to those measures.A public school district is an arm of government, same as if the State of Texas required it.
Hayseed? Is that some Iowa insult? The fact is we had state religions. This country was founded by Christians. Sorry yall don’t like that. It's adorable this hayseed thinks he knows more about the law and Constitution than a lawyer. This feels like when people come in with their Drs. Google and tiktok diagnoses.
They also allowed slavery so my guess is you would prefer to go back to that?So you know in the 13 colonies each colony had a state religion. That religion was actually funded by the government. Massachusetts was the last state to get rid of their state religion, in 1833. Anyway other denominations didn’t like that there was a state religion so they put in the establishment clause. All of the religions were Christian though. So Islam was never part of the discussion.
Asking @THE_DEVIL to confirm, but you are probably going to hell.Religion and god(s). The scourge of our planet. The single biggest crutch ever created by the human mind. Keep it the f*ck out of schools.
That would mean that Republicans would have to do more than pay lip service to the Constitution. The Establishment Clause is in the Constitution. The Lemon test provides guidance for courts to determine whether a specific law or policy violates the Establishment Clause. And requiring public school students to read Bible verses almost certainly violates all three components of the test.
That's what Sunday school is for. Or private schools. The only time religion should be taught in public schools is in the context of its role in shaping world history.
Speaking for myself, there should be religion in every facet of life...ALL.THE.TIME. It keeps me busy.Asking @THE_DEVIL to confirm, but you are probably going to hell.
Liberals don’t work too hard so it probably wouldn’t work. They also allowed slavery so my guess is you would prefer to go back to that?

Republicans have been trying to redefine the meaning of "separation" for a long time. This may be when they finally get away with it.You know we have an entire amendment that prevents this. Not that the constitution matters the Republican Supreme Court
You said that states weren’t bound by the 1st amendment! How else could we have had state religions if it didn’t allow it!You really believe local schools are not bound by the Constitution because they are neither the feds nor the state?
Wow. I don’t even know what to say to that.
So Brown v. Board of Education - the Board should have just told the Supreme Court it isn’t subject to the Constitution because the Board is part of local government?
Please quote me that separation section.Republicans have been trying to redefine the meaning of "separation" for a long time. This may be when they finally get away with it.
Let's suppose that your side wins this argument in the Supreme Court, and imposing the Christian religion in public schools is deemed constitutional....But it’s not debatable that there were state religions in this country. The 1st Amendment did not mandate separation of church and state.
I personally don’t think we should be imposing on anyone. I don’t think it is as awful as some of yall atheists seem to think it is. Christian Values are good, so why wouldn’t it be good to teach them in school. I assure you that it was done that way for many years. What is the downside? I guess some other religions who wouldn’t like it. Obviously the LGBT++ community doesn’t like it.Let's suppose that your side wins this argument in the Supreme Court, and imposing the Christian religion in public schools is deemed constitutional....
Do you think that's a good thing? If so, why?
Define "Christian values".I personally don’t think we should be imposing on anyone. I don’t think it is as awful as some of yall atheists seem to think it is. I was more just arguing to point out that the separation of church and state is not as clear as some think because they haven’t read the full history of this country.
You said that states weren’t bound by the 1st amendment! How else could we have had state religions if it didn’t allow it!

The 10 commandments would be the low hanging fruit.Define "Christian values".
I didn’t see separation in there. A state religion, really Christian denomination in the case of the USA, is part of the government and funded by tax payer dollars. Reading the Bible in school is not the same thing.1st Amendment, 1st Sentence.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion …
The 14th amendment had nothing to do with religion. It was slavery/civil rights. What? The states were bound as of the adoption of the 14th Amendment in 1868.
The last state sponsored religion was abolished in 1833.
The first 4 are about how god is a jealous teenager. 5-10 aren't unique to Christianity. I'm an atheist and somehow inherently know murdering, lying, and stealing is wrong. The 10 commandments would be the low hanging fruit.
So you think the 10 commandments are bad?The first 4 are about how god is a jealous teenager. 5-10 aren't unique to Christianity. I'm an atheist and somehow inherently know murdering, lying, and stealing is wrong.
Wanna try again?
I've probably given more to charity than you. Again, not unique to Christianity. "Positive life lessons" means nothing. Marriage and having children aren't values or unique to Christianity. Hell I've done both. "Sexual immorality" is a term you've created in your head and is not shared amongst all Christians. Frankly your version of it is a lot closer to Islam. So you think the 10 commandments are bad?
We can keep going. God created humans as Male and Female. They get married and have children. Sexual immorality is bad. Drunkenness is bad. Charity. Positive life lessons. Obviously you are free to not listen and go off and steal others wealth or whatnot.

Actually, no we can't. Forcing students to read a particular religious text to the exclusion of all others is the very core of establishing a state religion. The Constitution clearly prohibits it, and the 14th Amendment applies it to state governments. There's no "disagreement" possible - there's only right or wrong. @kidmike41 is entitled to be wrong but it makes him look dumb.We can disagree on whether requiring public school students to read a certain Bible - there are many - violates the Establishment Clause.
Actually, most of the Founding Fathers were theists who paid lip service to Christianity. They were students of the Enlightenment which valued reason over superstition. Jefferson took a blade and famously (and literally) cut all the miracles out of his NT because he thought they were stupid.Hayseed? Is that some Iowa insult? The fact is we had state religions. This country was founded by Christians. Sorry yall don’t like that.
Ooh a lawyer. How impressive. Lawyers are falling off of trees around here. How about go get a real job.
I assure you haven’t given more to charity than me. Sexual immorality is talked about often in the Bible. Try reading it sometime.I've probably given more to charity than you.
