I attended the Black Knight last year since it is only a 3 hour drive from my house (SC is 6+). Really good tourney to attend - except they ran out of food before the semis. Great to see some of our non-starters get their chance to show what they can do. Also got the see Levi ‘forget’ he was wrestling folkstyle and not freestyle and leg-lace an opponent for what would have been 2 exposures.
Lovely 45 minute drive to West Point for us vs a 3 hour slog to SC on I80. One of my favorite wrestling days of the year - great watching the non-starters compete.

The shame of wrestling a limited Big10 schedule is there is a nice rivalry building between Nebraska and Penn State and not wrestling dulls the intensity of the rivalry.
The last few seasons Nebraska has wrestled PSU harder than the Hawks.
The other downside is we rarely wrestle Minnesota. Granted these Gophers aren't JR'S Gophers, and Eggum doesn't stir the pot in a manner similar to JR but I wish we wrestled Minnesota more frequently.
Couldn't NB and PSU still schedule each other if they so desired.

Weird that B10 decoupled Meatchicken and Sparty. They're 90 min apart, why not have them on the road in the same year? Simplify travel and reduce cost ... as has been customary for decades.

Also should've coupled Minny with Wisconsin.
Yeah, made note of that in that story. Makes you wonder what the double dual weekends will look like.

FWIW, I put in a right to know request to Oklahoma for any contracts, documents, or communications regarding a visit from Penn State this year to complete a possible home and home, which many assumed would be the case, after the Sooners came to the BJC last year. They had nothing to pass along. Doesn't mean it won't happen. It could be possible that nothing is on record yet, or that my request wasn't specific enough, or that there is just no return trip for the Lions. Anyway, just wanted to pass that along.
Why bother. They would only send out half the starters anyway.

Thoughts on PSU doing the Journeyman Duals in Nashville around Christmas again this year?

I made the trip also. I'll go again but will try to allow more time to see some more of the academy. The facility where the wrestling was held is pretty vintage.
It felt a little like a Stabler Arena size venue and the old Hershey Arena with the steep steps and no hand rails.

Speaking of the schedule, I'm pretty certain that I read or heard that PSU might try to add another tournament where most of the team attends.
Journeyman would be an option. ???

It does make me laugh that even something as simple as every Big Ten school releasing their home and away opponents turns into a game of put together the Penn State schedule puzzle.

You ever see the old films of soldiers opening the old World War II C- or K- rations with the P-38 "John Wayne" (38mm long, no relation to the twin engine fighter of that time that I know of)?

They had to insert the blade and rock it back if forth over and over to get at the stuff inside. I've heard that was military psychology at work, where the effort involved in getting that damn thing open gave the soldier a sense of investment, the same way a fraternity hazing works.

This is Cael's P-38. You work hard to get at the hot dogs and beans and you value it like Filet Mignon.

I'm not that old. I have one on my key chain. Still in use and hung with your dog tags until at least 1976.Edit: And my OG P 38 on my dog tags chain have indeed turned black

We always have to wait for men's and women's bball schedules b4 wrestling gets dates at the BJC. I understand the need for BJC matches, but I hate going there over Rec. I also prefer Sunday afternoons over Friday nights with winter travel. I believe last years schedule only had one Sunday match. Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately nobody cares about your 2 cents when BTN money is involved. For the record I agree with you.

You are correct. Lehigh was the only Sunday home match.

FYI, this will be voted on by the NCAA Division I cabinet this week:

The NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Oversight Committee introduced legislation to establish the first date of competition in men’s wrestling as the Friday of the 20th week prior to the Division I Men’s Wrestling Championship. The oversight committee requests the Division I Cabinet adopt the proposed change as expedited legislation at its June 23-24, 2026, meeting.

If this were put into place for the 2027 season (it probably won't be, still), the season would start on Halloween weekend.

"The oversight committee requests the Division I Cabinet adopt the proposed change as expedited legislation at its June 23-24, 2026, meeting," tells me they want it for this year.

Edinboro's 2026-2027 schedule is out. Penn State is not on it, but Michigan State is. Notably, as it relates to the potential new start date for the 2026-2027 season, the school's first dual meet is not until Nov. 1:

Edinboro has hired a new assistant to replace Schopp it should be announced soon. Schopp is gonna stay on staff as well just not in the same role.
