Fever desperately need help at the 3 & 4 positions in scoring, rebounding, and defensively. As far as the playoffs are concerned, they're going nowhere with this roster.
They lack toughness down low. I love AB as a player, but even she could stand to bring more physicality in the post. Fever are missing Natasha Howard more than I think they realized they would.

I cant stand watching this god awful coach try to make CC her system player. Its a travesty. Just like the WNBA, this joke of a franchise is doing everything it can to **** up the best thing that's ever happened to it.
But but but she took the CC-less Fever to within one game of the Finals during a season where the entire league was plagued with season-ending injuries..................

The f***ing Phoenix Mercury made the Finals last year, not that anyone actually remembers...............

You mean drafting a player that can score but can’t play defense to save her life?

Billings and Hull are taking up a combined >20% of the salary cap this season.

Harris, MHA, and Dantas are taking up a combined >14% of the salary cap this season.

Over 2.5MM of the $7MM salary cap and the team couldn’t find one starter quality player out of the bunch.

Sophie is also likely a bit overpaid since she’s a bench player, but at least she’s generally contributing what you’d expect from a bench player.

For people that keep talking about Lexi being a defensive stopper, she isn’t. She’s a hustle/effort player which helps on defense. But she isn’t a stopper.

The biggest obstacle for CC was and is the myth that the Fever have a big 3 and just need complimentary players.

Boston and Mitchell were 13-27 before CC arrived. Those 2 are the most overrated, limited “franchise” players in the league. On both sides of the ball.

CC MUST extricate herself from the franchise and those 2 players because they will take you nowhere.

Mitchell was the 2nd player in league history to receive a super max contract, after Aja Wilson.

Boston received the largest $ amount contract in league history.

Mitchell was definitely not worth that contract, but at least it was a one year offer. Boston probably wasn’t worth that contract either just yet. But she isn’t being set up for success this season, so who knows? With her new contract she needs to not play in Unrivaled this offseason as her injury there set her back considerably at the start of this WNBA season. Long story short, the front office significantly overvalued many players this offseason which led them to the salary cap crunch and bad roster that the team is dealing with. Didn’t help that basically every big article he league was being significantly overvalued by every team. The Sun offering a close to retirement Griner $1.2MM for 12ppg with 5 rbs is pretty bad.

I can’t believe the owners didn’t put stipulations on the CBA that anyone with a >$750k contract couldn’t play in any other league in the offseason. That would have done two things: protect your most valuable assets and incentivize players like Hull and Billings to take slightly lower contracts to put them below that threshold so that they could still play in an offseason league allowing them to make more money. At the bare minimum anyone on a Max or Super Max contract shouldn’t be allowed to play in a rival league.

Another real issue is that Unrivaled was started by two of its biggest stars, (Stewie an Phee). Supposedly started to allow these women to make real money without having to play overseas. So what now. Obviously they and many top players will now be payed fairly well , so where does this leave Unrivaled if many of the top players bow out? Since the league did not take steps will we see more of what happened with Boston. Phee herself has not played yet this season as she had surgery on both ankles. The W is supposedly going to a 50 game schedule next season I believe so playing in other leagues is going to become more problematic.

BS. Boston had a fantastic rookie campaign and she’s been great the whole time she’s been here. Paige Bueckers was on one of the worst teams in the league last year. Doesn’t make her a bad player. Please explain how Boston is limited. The Fevers biggest problem is not their 3 best players. It’s getting zero production this year from the 3 and 4 position. Zero. Hull has really regressed and letting go of Howard or not resigning her was a huge mistake.

Mitchell and Boston together (albeit for just one year) did very little to elevate the Fever prior to CCs arrival. It shoulda been a clue into their relative limitations. KM can be a dynamite scorer but is an undersized 2g. Boston could bull her way to dominance in college but lacks the athleticism to be a consistent dominant force inside. Yet they’re both paid like top 5 players. It actually was a scouting/assessment miscalculation.

Boston is the highest paid player in the league. She and KM together were 13-27 together. It’s a clue.

She lacks the athleticism to be a dominant post presence like she was in college. It’s why you see her miss a lot of close range shots.

And her defense is really inconsistent if not really bad due to her lack of athleticism and length. She should be a much more dominant defensive player.

The Fever are likely headed for a record very similar to CCs rookie year. The results will just be achieved a little differently. 2 completely different coaches achieving similar results in different ways.

It’s the roster. Lack of depth of talent, 2 starters who might be 10-11 off the bench on better teams, no interior physicality, awful D. I actually think the Big 3 are bad fits together. Can be entertaining and dynamic, of course, but each of their individual limitations are also just too much to overcome considering how little help they have around them.

The Fever shot 49%, including 43% from 3, and lose by 17? How is that possible?

Allow your opponent to shoot 50%/46%, have 10 steals and shoot 31 FT's - all while committing 19 TO's. That's how.

And holy crap do the Fever give up a lot of easy shots!
TO's are killers! Not only are you limiting your offensive possessions, but also your opponent many times scores directly off a TO. The Fever had 19 TO's yesterday with many of them coming in the 3rd quarter which allowed Atlanta to take control of the game.

The Fever are AVERAGING 15.5 TO's per game! And the Big 3 are AVERAGING 9.7 per game. Ugh.

I wouldn’t give my toenail clippings to get Smith back. She chose loyalty to her girlfriend over loyalty to the team. She had to go. I’d love to have Howard back, though. I had high hopes for Billings but so far she just hasn’t delivered.
Agree. Natasha was way better for Indiana than Nalyssa. And Billings has been a bust through the first half of the season. Was expecting much more out of her after seeing the chemistry she and CC seemed to have as part of Team USA.

Outside of the Aces and the Liberty every team in the WNBA would have signed Boston to that deal.

I’m not sure that’s correct. lynx would not have. They have exceptional scouting and drafting.

Regardless, the return on investment is nowhere near where it should be. And it’s reinforcing a flawed roster. AB desperately needs a talented interior pkayer, which she had plenty of at South Carolina. Even just a great rebounder and defensive presence would help greatly.

Lack of size has killed Minnesota the last couple of years so I wouldn't be so sure on that. But even if that is the case the only teams that you could make an argument that wouldn't sign her to that deal have the three best non-guards in the sport.

Boston isn't a great rim protector but she's still a physical presence in the post and plays solid individual defense. Quite frankly unless the Fever had Wembanyama on their roster I don't know if an individual rim protector could cover up all of the Fever's defensive issues so far.

The Fever front office have made plenty of questionable decisions the past few years but signing the best young post in the league to a long term contract isnt one of them.
