- Valentine is the county seat and largest city in the county.
- Created in 1883.
- Cherry County is named for Lt. Samuel Cherry, an Army officer stationed at Fort Niobrara and was killed in South Dakota in 1881.
- The county is roughly 6,000 square miles and is Nebraska’s largest county.
- Cherry County is larger than Rhode Island, Delaware, and Connecticut.
- Located in the sandhills region.
- The dunes in the regions are a result of the most recent glacial period, the Pinedale glaciation.
- The annual Cowboy 100 and Cowboy 200 finish at Bolo Beer in Valentine.
- Niobrara River flows through Cherry County.

- From Valentine, NE where he played defensive back and led Valentine High School to the state playoffs in 1993 and 1994.
- Accumulated more than 3,500 yards of offense and was All-State.
- Class B gold medal in 200-yard dash, 400-yard relay, and silver medal in 100-yard dash.
